Kickstarter campaign is canceled, FDG Entertainment joins the adventure!

Hi beautiful backers,

During the past few weeks many things happened behind the scenes and now we are glad to officially announce our future plans for Flying Hamster II.

While we were working hard on a relaunch of this Kickstarter campaign with a new approach and lots of improvements, we had the chance to discuss with FDG Entertainment's Thomas Kern about a possible collaboration on Flying Hamster II. We finally agreed to put our efforts together and make the game happen without rebooting our campaign.

We are really thrilled that we can go on production earlier than we could ever expect, thanks to the help of FDG Entertainment, and without changing anything from what we initially planned to make. We even think that being published by FDG Entertainment will drastically raise the overall quality of the game as we are now able to focus on its development and get their experienced feedback and support.

Now here’s a quote from FDG Entertainment’s co-founder Thomas Kern:

“FDG Entertainment is an indie game publishing company with a focus of high quality, fun to play games. We've been following Game Atelier's impressive quality productions since the release of Flying Hamster and loved their talent and passion which made their games clearly stand out from the crowd. We've been excited about the Kickstarter Project of 'Flying Hamster II'. Being gamers from heart since the early days, we couldn't do anything but fall in love with the game. We are convinced that this kind of game is what people are still looking for these days, so we jumped in to make sure this game is going to happen and fill us all with joy. We are excited to cooperate with Game Atelier in order to make the game become a reality and warp us back into the days of exciting 2D action adventures with the sensation of exploration and wonder.”

And here’s what’s gonna happen next:

  • Yes, Flying Hamster II will be released on Steam for PC Windows once we finish the development, other ports will follow later.
  • Flying Hamster II won’t be downgraded or turned into any kind of freemium game: it will remain a full downloadable premium game.

But wait, there’s more...

Congrats on the publishing deal! While it makes me sad the crowdfunding didn't work at the very least we will still get this game, although I imagine we as backers won't have much involvement anymore. Still, the game existing is enough. :)

This partnership is good news. This game HAS to happen, an now it will. Awesome news!

While it was unfortunate the pace at which the Kickstarter was going, it is absolutely fantastic that the game will be realized and completed. I'm very happy for you guys and very excited to see the results! Bonne chance!

I'm glad you got a publisher., I'd really like to see the game made. Are you still planing to make it DRM free? Can we buy the soundtrack?

I'm happy, that the game will be coming out after all. I hope you will release it in the European Playstation Store as well. I have no interest in PC gaming at all, but on PS4 I would buy it on day One. PS3 or Vita would be fine as well.

Does this mean no more digital artbook? Aww...

    11. Brandon Morris on April 25, 2014

What does this mean for the console versions? Mainly WiiU as that's the one that I planned to buy and play this game on. I hope those don't get killed off with this deal because then I will probably never play this game :(.

FDG published the popular Zelda-clone Oceanhorn, with some music tracks composed by Nobuo Uematsu and Kenji Ito. So that's not so bad.

Good to hear that you got a publisher :D . Count me in on the release day!

    14. Maxram0 on April 25, 2014

Congrats! I'm glad you guys found a way to make the game a reality :)

    15. Diorm on April 25, 2014

That's awesome and all but how will we be able to participate in voting for designs, get our name or face in the game or get soundtracks and art books now that the kickstarter is canceled? :(

Good to hear everything worked out. I hope you will still pursue a DRM-free alternative. Steam is not an alternative, even if it's free, and I would like to buy the game when it's done.

Awww...its shame...but awesome news, hope u can make the game now what u wished for and showed for us. :)

    18. Mellefly on April 25, 2014

As long as the game is getting released that's all it matters. I'm very happy for you, guys ! :)

That's a wonderful news, I'm a little sad that it was not done through crowdfunding, but the most important thing is that the game will make it \o/ So a big thanks to FDG Entertainment, I hope they will live up to their quote, it will be nice to have a real publisher for a change, and not just a big pile of money hungry fools that doesn't care at all about games. So good luck for the future :)
As for the free giveway, it's a nice move, I don't think I'll make it though, I don't have a facebook account and my twitter have something like 1 follower (I just use it to check some accounts), so it'll feel a little like cheating :p

Sorry to see the Kickstarter not go as planned, but very happy to see a publisher enabling the production of the game. The publisher also seem so have put out some quality games before, so I'm optimistic about the game not being compromised. Best of luck guys- I'm looking forward to the release!

    22. Ersarger on April 25, 2014

So nice to hear that the project isn't gonna cancelled :) As long as the game is still coming out for PS Vita, I am happy with this new plan.

    23. Seth Brown on April 25, 2014

I'm so glad that it's happening for sure, you have no idea how much I wanted this game to happen. I hope to see it on PS Vita and PS4.

    24. Insaney on April 25, 2014

Wonderful! Am happy this project had a happy ending after all! xD

One question tho regarding how to get a free copy. Does it have to be on Twitter or Facebook? Could I make a post on tumblr instead, and say this game is happening, and link to fdg games? Would that be ok too? =D

Better not be freemium or free to play as i hate those..... Good luck with the publisher and hope to see PS4/vita versions (premium game of course)
