Seeker is a role-playing game system which main goal is free players creativity and kill the frustration can occur during a game. It is based and developed on my experience in more than 15 years of gaming; during this long period I realized that unhappiness in game comes often from the lack of results due to failed dice rolls. In Seeker, I promise, you will always get an effective result from your actions. In addition the use of meta-game in certain stages of the game, slim and effective management of characters and easy but not trivial mechanics make Seeker suitable for both novices and veterans.

Isles of Imara is a fantasy political setting. It tells the story of a city-states federation who fought a magical civil war in the near past and now deals with the social, economics and political problems of a cosmopolitan nation. Migration flows between cities merge with those of monsters wish to live within the federation, while the dark power of the Soul Priests acts in shadows to destroy the lawful and tolerated Order of Parchments. In this time of tensions and opportunities, the players will move their characters.

Isles of Imara is inspired by many books and movies like: “The Death Gate Cycle” (M. Weis and T. Hickman), “Tales” (P. K. Dick), “Lord of the Flies” (W. Golding), “Animal Farm” (G. Orwell) and “Game of Thrones” tv series (D. Benioff and D. B. Weiss).

Earth 3000 is a Sci-Fi setting. Earth has become a sort of great nation after having faced the cathastrophic Kooh Event: the growth of the temperature on the planet caused by intensive solar activity that continued for centuries. The humanity survived thanks to the Earth Space Defence program, who designed and built the Rain-Sadowsky machine: a particular shield put in defense of the Earth planet. As centuries passed by, the scientific development allowed to begin interstellar travels using the Freeman Gates (artificial Einstein-Rosen bridges or Wormholes) and in this new era, humanity met several alien species: humanoid organisms made of antimatter known as Charus, the religious and proud race of Ganian who worships the dark energy and the world eaters known as Locusts. The interstellar exploration caused also the birth of new terroristic organizations like Meteor who pushes the Earth to abandon space travels in order to focus only on Earth citizens, threatening Earth Space Defenses employees and international organizations like the Space Agencies. Now, in year 3000, humanity faces this challenges to going on and write another great chapter of its existance in the universe.

Earth 3000 is inspired by many books and movies like: “The Foundation Cycle” (I. Asimov), “Tales” (P. K. Dick), “The Expanse” tv series (J. S. A. Corey), “Star Wars” saga (G. Lucas), "Interstellar" (C. Nolan) and “Gundam Wing” tv series (H. Yatate and Y. Tomino).

Seeker RPG system is a full colored handbook, A5 horizontal format, about 250 pages, available both in english and italian.

Seeker RPG System handbook
Seeker RPG System handbook

Here it is a list of the major handbook features and contents:

  • A game of choices – with Seeker RPG system you can choose the game dice (4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 faces) before the game starts. Less faces the dice has, less chance the game has. Suggested game dice is 12 faced.
  • Strategic focus - game mechanics are simple, but you and your friends will spend some time to choose what to do, because every choice has consequences and things evolve during an event challenge: will you fight alone or supported by your comrades? which distance of approaching will you choose? which kind of action? Will you accept some disadvantages in exchange for a certainty? These are few examples of the questions you will ask yourselves.
  • Contemporary actions - during the challenges that require rounds to be solved, the Narrator and the Players use actions simultaneously. This means all the players have to consider which kind of strategy adopt: despite of the result of players actions, the enemies or in general the challenges will always make their move before being defeated. Evaluating the situation is very important, because the weaker members of the characters' group could need to be protected and this need requires to make group actions: group actions have both advantages and disadvantages. As you can see, contemporary actions put a lot of strategic's stuff inside the game.
  • Setting creation rules – players can build their own setting quickly with the specific Setting Sheet, if they don’t have any ready setting to play.
Seeker RPG System is very suitable also for investigative's adventures
Seeker RPG System is very suitable also for investigative's adventures
  • Pregenerated settings - up to three pregenerated Setting Sheet: pick up one and play immediately!
  • Game rules – the core of Seeker RPG system is BAM Versus: it determines game dynamics by the comparison of parameter levels (B, A and M) modified by character knowledge and skills. Forget things like Life Point count: game parameters will in exchange be stressed by actions and events until getting negative conditions.
  • Rules for the unnatural – special skills such as magic are called Phenomena and they follow the BAM Versus rules with little changes due to the unnatural factor.
  • Challenges rules – BAM Versus and Setting Sheet let you build risks, events and enemies with ease. Examples are provided in the handbook.
  • Rules for movement – distances and movement are independent from any unit of measurement. Forget meters, feet, minutes, seconds and so on: you don’t need to do neverending exhausting calculations.
  • Rules for character creation – They are very easy. Few dice rolls, simple calculations, free class, role and skills creation. You can begin to play in the same game session you build your character.
  • Goods and money – Forget any calculations related to: munitions, shopping, weights and money. In particular for money, there will be a parameter called Assets that you can stress during the game (and it will cause negative condition of course).
  • Game Master tips – guidelines and tips for veterans and novices in the role of Game Master.
  • Event and enemy list - monsters, human character and event list for immediate use.

Lets have a look on the core mechanic of Seeker RPG System. How does BAM Versus work?.

BAM Versus is involved in two kind of Challenges in the game: simple events and major events.

A simple event represents a little risk for the character. To solve this event, the Narrator determines which Trait (there are four of them) is involved in the check, then he or she rolls two dices in secret and due to the Level of the Trait in the player’s character sheet, the Narrator chooses one of the results and applies it as "Stress value". Regardless of the amount of Stress, the character will always suceeds in his or her action. Simple event rules apply when an action requires some effort, but there are not active antagonists.

A major event represents a great risk for the character, so there is usually a great enemy or a great active menace to be faced. To solve it, both the Narrator and the player make action during their round: the player determines his or her character’s action and the Narrator do the same with enemies. Once Traits involved are determined, both the Narrator and the player roll some dices and use comparison with levels to determine the amount of Stress the character and the enemies will suffer.

character's sheets, adventures and dices are all you need to play Seeker
character's sheets, adventures and dices are all you need to play Seeker

In both of the events, when the amount of Stress is higher than a specific Limit, the character or the enemy suffers a Condition. Conditions are the real consequences during the game: when a player wants his or her character to do an action, he or she can simply sets up a specific Condition (following some easy rules). The same mechanics apply to the Narrator, so Conditions can be very hard to suffer because they depends on the game situation and also on the creativity of the player or the Narrator.

Another side of the game about BAM Versus mechanics is the choice between making a group action or a lone action. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages: group actions are suitable to protect the weakest members of the group and to manage very well the amount of Stress. If you are making a group action with other players you can split the Stress value suffered between the members of the group, as you desire. On the other hand, a lone action grant you more experience useful for advancement and the total amount of Stress all the characters can each inflict to their enemies is higher, but also the risk is higher because the characters are not forming a group so they cannot split Stress among them as desired.

The choice of acting in a group (of 2 or more members) or acting alone is a very important point in Seeker RPG System.

All the mechanics in the game are based on BAM Versus: once you learn how to use it (and it is simpler to use than it appears) you can play all the other Seeker RPG System features.

Far in the past, humans lived in small settlements under the ceaseless threat of monsters in the islands, but as time passed by, humanity evolved and freed itself from this slavery thanks to the Magical Arts. Monsters, pushed by the situation, begin to live with humans and cooperate with them, but many mythological and powerful creature like Dragons and Islespiders isolated themselves and mostly disappeared.

a Dragon: one of the terrible Forgotten Horrors of Imara
a Dragon: one of the terrible Forgotten Horrors of Imara

Now, the young human Federation of Imara faces other kind of internal and external threats: magical terrorism and crimes (committed by Soul Priests), ordinary crimes, monsters pressure for a better life inside the federated territory and border cities pushing for more political indepencence. In this frail situation rumors talk about the oncoming return of Forgotten Horrors: Dragons and Islespiders, threatening a new era of war and suffering.

Isles of Imara is a full colored handbook, A5 horizontal format, about 150 pages, available both in english and italian.

Here it follows a list of the main handbook contents:

  • Setting history and events – a detailed history of the world of Imara, with main focus on economics, social and political events.
  • Factions and Institutions lore – The Federation of Imara, Order of Parchments, Soul Priests, common citizens, relations between core and border cities, relation with monsters: all of these themes and other ones are studied in deep in the handbook to give you the best knowledge of the setting and let you manage events and adventures in the best way possible.

  • Phenomena lore: Esoteric Magic – Esoteric Magic is powerful, unique and unachievable to the most of humans. It is driven by spiritual deals between a magical monster (donor) and the human (receiver). Death rate is high among those who try to learn magic this way. In the past this kind of magic was used in particular by an organization known as The Dragon's Necklace, that apparently disappeared during the magical civil war.
  • Phenomena lore: Parchments Magic (or Parchmagic) – It is the magic used by the Order of Parchments: it is driven by a mystical bond between the mage and spell scrolls. Death rate is none, it is the only lawful magic, the most common among citizen, but learning and advancement (and also the power gained) is lower compared to others form of magic.
  • Phenomena lore: Soul Magic – The Forbidden One, the Impure Magic; this magic has many negative names because it requires a forced bond between the mage and other living creatures that due to this bond are going to die. Their knowledge is then assimilated in special artifacts that grant Soul Priests to use it in incantations. This kind of magic is severely illegal and those who use it are considered the most terrible criminals of the Federation. Though not all the Soul Priests are evil.
  • Setting tips – Some tips and suggestions are provided to start a campaign or an adventure.
  • Event and enemy list - monsters, human character and event list for immediate use.
