“That is not dead
can eternal lie, And with strange
aeons even death may die.”
A dying professor leaves a collection of documents to his nephew Francis, containing evidence and clues to a mysterious cult and their worship of Cthulhu. Taking on his grandfather's investigation, Francis discovers old rituals being performed in the swamp lands and a world falling to hysteria.
Yet, Francis grows restless. Something begins to whisper in his dreams while old idols haunt his mind. Francis is getting closer, closer to the truth and closer to his sanity crumbling.
H. P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu is a double sized, 148mm by 210mm A5 concertina book illustrated by Lyndon White. All the books will be signed and numbered as a limited print run.
You can read the first 12 pages of Back to the Inferno via the Kickstarter update HERE.
Also known as an accordion book, concertinas are made from a long sheet of paper that is then folded between two covers. They can either expand outward and kept flat or be read like a normal book. Concertinas tell a story through a series of illustrations that work together to build a complete narrative.
The book serves a duel purpose. It can either sit on your bookshelf as a normal book, or be folded out and display as a piece of artwork.
To put it simply, I love the story. It was my introduction to the Cthulhu mythos that Lovecraft created. Also, because its a short story broken down into three chapters, its perfect for adapting into a concertina and naturally creates a structure to the series of images.
Last year I launched a previous Kickstarter for a Dracula concertina book. The campaign was incredibly successful and it also allowed me to adapt Dante's Inferno. The Dracula concertina came from people asking me to illustrate more of my version of Dracula, The Call of Cthulhu is no different. I had people asking me to adapt a Lovecraft story while the Dracula Kickstarter was ongoing but at the time it was just simply not feasible. This is again, my way of giving people what they've been asking for and creating something unique for your bookshelf or wall.
Howard Phillips Lovecraft is an American writer who is one of the most significant influences of the horror genre. Creator of the Cthulhu mythos and lover of tentacles.
Lyndon White is a illustrator, writer and comic artist, working with a variety of publishers such as Disconnected Press, Blue Fox Comics and Hellbound Media. On occasion, you’ll even find him teaching comics. Outside of comics he produces art work and designs for music bands, book covers, textile illustration, storyboards and concept work.
Known to some as "The Great Old One", Cthulhu is cosmic in origin and one of the kings of pop culture. Gigantic in scale, he likes long walks on the beach and bringing the minds of humans to madness.
I've already spent the time creating the artwork, contacting printers, working out costs and preparing the book for print. As it stands I've taken no payment for any of the illustration work and won't be taking any from the Kickstarter. I just need help to raise the money to cover the printing costs.

This is a smaller scale project compared to the last few books I've worked on but an amazing opportunity to do. Lovecraft has been a key influence on my work and getting to adapt one of his stories is a dream project. Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy The Call of Cthulhu.
Risks and challenges
Every time I use Kickstarter I make sure I have a finished product. The Call of Cthulhu is no exception. I've already been working with the printer and everything is ready to print once the Kickstarter is finished. I've been part of a number of Kickstarters such as The Mind of James Svengal, Bram Stoker's Dracula, A Tale of Shadows, Lost & Found, Mandy the Monster Hunter and a number of comics from Blue Fox Comics, all of which have been successfully funded.
The deadline in getting the book to you all is June 2018, which gives me plenty of time to get the books sent out to you all.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
