Fangs and Crosses - Carnevale Winter Sourcebook (Canceled)
The first expansion for the award winning Carnevale, the miniature game. New factions, new characters, new rules... new experience!
Fangs and Crosses will be the first Sourcebook for Carnevale: the miniature game. We need your help to produce, illustrate and translate the PDF of Fangs and Crosses, and hopefully, we can also print this book. This is what this campaign is all about, but if we manage to go beyond this point, we have loads of fun ready for you all while we dig deeper and deeper into the universe of Carnevale.
Winter just fell like a heavy snow blanket over the city of Venice. The Rent in the Sky changed everything two years ago. It seems like the world has gone crazy and the city state of Venice, La Serenissima, is right in the centre of this maelstrom.
Along with the cold came new contestants for the blood in the streets of Venice. The Vatican grows restless with the unchained powers that roam free in the heart of the venetian empire, and is sending its troops to put a stop to the debauchery that is being unleashed there on a daily basis. On the other hand, the Strigoi are a massive group of feral vampires that travelled from the heart of Europe to Venice in order to fulfill the lust for power of Drâculea and Venice seems to be a key piece in his masterplan.

Vesper-On Games is a small company from Barcelona, Spain. We’re literaly three guys in a basement (and we don’t even have a basement) with a passion for putting out a high quality product. Last year we produced Carnevale: the miniature game out of our own dime, and the market has responded with a lot of warmth. We also set up a small crowdfunding campaign last November to fund our biggest miniature – the Morgraur-Rashaar. We wanted to get the experience for a bigger impact campaign that we knew would be needed early enough. The time for this new campaign is now.
We are almost finished with the first set of models that appeared in the Core book, and we’ve got a big world to explore in the city of Venice. We want to produce the next book in our line, but putting out a full color publication is EXPENSIVE. If we manage to reach this quantity we will have a new shiny book in the Carnevale collection. If we beat it and manage to get beyond this figure, we will be able to accelerate the production on all the models that will follow the book, give you loads of Stretch Goals to enjoy, bring along some friends to join our crazy wagon and have a lot of fun in the process! Everybody loves stretch goals, and we’ve got plenty of those already planned for you guys!
Now that you know what we want to do with this Kickstarter, let us show you some of the Stretch Goals that we have planned... and we've got much more up in our sleeve! If you want to know more about Carnevale, if you want more details about the Pledges or want to browse amongst the Add-on items that you can get, please scroll down. This is a very loooong scroll, have fun with it!
Carnevale is a narrative skirmish game that is set in a fantasy version of late XVIII century Venice. This game has been nominated to the Origins Awards as Best miniature rules in 2012. We have produced a really nice range of models for it, some of which were nominated to the Origins awards again in 2013 as Best Miniature line. But as we said before, we are a very small company that needs a little help from its friends in order to continue producing high quality models and games.
We are trying to raise just enough to make this book as a PDF, but we hope to go much further than this! First of all we want to make it a full color print product - that's one of our first Stretch goals, because that's what a miniature game like this deserves. At the same time, we also have a really cool list of stretch goals that we hope to fulfill in order to pump more gas into Carnevale.
If we manage to hit more and more stretch goals, the final product that we put out will be better and better, and will get there faster. We will be able to accelerate the production of the over 60 new models that will follow this first expansion book.
You can all be a part of this process. You can help us to shape the game that you want to play.
Carnevale is a miniatures game that allows you to become an adventurer in a dark version of Venice. You can be the swashbuckler that fights evil scientists while jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Or you can be a submarine monsterthat feeds on the flesh of the common folk of this city. You will explore its canals and its bridges, you will command your squad and will have superpowered individuals fighting alongside you.
Carnevale has a gaming system that allows you to explore all the cinematic aspects of its background. It has a campaign system that will enable you to evolve your squad of characters.

But don't take our word for this. In this list of links you will find the videos from the Beasts of War Carnevale week, in which they explore the background and rules of this game. Check them out right here!
Doctors of the Ospedale - The Ospedale was built as a mental institution. But the real motives of these scientists were quite far from healing the sick. They have been investigating the offensive potential of the magic that keeps pouring from the Rent in the Sky to build weapons. They have learnt that madmen are one of the purest sources of magic, and they torture them to extract the finest threats with which to wave the tapestry of magic. They can control the minds of their enemies and savage beasts from the dark continent. They are evil to bone, and a major power player in the city of Venice.
The Patricians - The ruling class of Venice is rich and decadent. They are a bunch of nihilistic bon-vivants that spend their days mingling in casinos, and their nights dancing in parties. But the venetian nights have much more to offer than just violins and champagne. The latest trend amongst the nobles is to dress up in fancy carnival costumes and roam the streets looking for trouble. And if those nightly escapades end up in murder, then double the fun!
The Guild - The common folk of Venice are facing unbearable threats: Mad doctors, murdering Noblemen, underwater Monsters and whatnot. The changes that the Rent in the Sky brought along are about to finish the underdogs of the island. The Doge and the government seem to be too busy with politics and wars to care about its people, so the Guild of Thieves decided to step up. They realized that there wasn't any money to be made stealing from the poor and the pauper, so they offered their protection and power to help them to fight back.
The Rashaar - The Rashaar have been roaming the seas of the earth for centuries, always hidden from the eyes of men. Many legends of sea monsters and syrens came from eventful encounters with these monsters. Their Magi are practitioners of true magic, and they have been preparing the planet for the coming of the gods for centuries. The reasons that impelled them to reveal themselves to the citizens of San Canziano after the Rent in the Sky appeared remain unknown, but what is becoming apparent is that they have a major interest in Venice.
Strigoi - After laying in slumber for centuries, Drâculea rises again to walk the earth amongst the living. The Rent in the Sky woke him up, and he will summon the children of the night to pave his way up there in order to conquer the supernatural realms beyond that celestial gate. And his way will be soaked with the blood of the living, and will begin in the city of Venice.
The Vatican - The Rent in the Sky devastated Italy, destroying the land and cutting it in half. Rome is just a memory now sunk below the waters of the Mediterranean. One of the few survivors was the Cardinal Gerdil, who interrogated the Harbinger and ran away with the secret knowledge of magic. He managed to become Pope of the catholic church, and stablished the Vatican in Avignon, France. But there's someone else with access to that power, the Cardinal Antonelli who ran away with a copy of the notes from the interview with the Harbinger and is now hidden in Venice. Using the masquerade of a crusade against the Gifted and the debauchery unleashed in the capital of the Venetian Empire, the new Pope sent his troops there in order to gain control of one of the few countries in the rising after the Rent in the Sky catastrophe.
The Gifted - These individuals appeared with the Rent in the Sky, flying around and shooting beams of lightning dressed in lavish costumes. They are a real power to be taken account in Venice, but they are too disconnected as a group to be feared as a whole. Most of them sell their supernatural powers to the highest bidder.
Risks and challenges
The book of Fangs and Crosses is well advanced. All the new factions and characters sections are finished and are being playtested as we speak - or as you read. The background section in well on its way. New rules and adventures should be pretty much finished by the time this Kickstarter campaign is over. Once that's done, there needs to be intense proofreading and checking and re-cheking. Illustrations will be produced alongside this process, so we expect to close the files at some point before the end of the year.
Most of the work is done in-house, and the only bits that are produced by externals will be made by the professional characters that will help us if their stretch goals are met, so we're confident in that area.
Most of the Perks are based on existing product, so there's no reason for delays in the production area; in fact, those orders that only include existing product will ship away immediately. All the new models that we manage to produce thanks to your help will be commissioned as soon as the relevant stretch goal is met. Also, we make all of our production in Europe. Since we're staying away from China with this product, we are handling our production with small local business that we know and trust and won't fall in extreme delays.
There might be unexpected unforeseen issues in delivering texts or illustrations, but we don't expect them to stop production for too long. We've been in this business for a long time, we know where the pitfalls are and we are confident to be able to do all the shipments on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
