About this project
We have the show but not the space! Help give our play a home by funding our theater rental expenses for the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Scotland.
Pacifica Christian High School will tour its production of Peter Barnes utterly brilliant, complex, and tragic play Red Noses at this summer's festival. The Fringe Festival is the world’s largest theater and performing arts festival, attracting thousands of performers and hundreds of thousands of audience members every year.
Our Kickstarter fund will pay for the theater rental fees we will need to secure a stage, complete with lights, sound equipment, and seating for an international audience.
Rental fees can range from $700 a day to $700 an hour, so the more money we make the better a space we can afford. And while there are other American high schools performing in Edinburgh, they are not in the heart of the festival. Our festival experience aims to be as close to the action as possible- to not only expose these students to the amazing creativity of the Fringe, but to claim their own space in the festival as artists.
We hope to perform three performances at minimum, and seven performances at the max. Our only window for participation (due to the start of the school year and college) are the two weeks of the festival, between July 28-August 10. We are currently in talks with a dozen potential theaters, but cost is our primary obstacle.
Anything you can give will not only help us secure a space, but it will double as a scholarship for student travel. With every dollar we can raise for the venue, we can focus more energy and resources on scholarships for actors with financial need. Pacifica is a school for all families, and we want all interested students to be able to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Thank you for your interest. We hope to see you in Scotland!
Risks and challenges
Our largest risks are largely behind us, but involved the negotiation process of renting a space in the UK from our vantage point in Los Angeles.
Luckily, we have found an amazing facility who is happy to have us: TheSpaceUK. The theater is one block from the Royal Mile, and our time slot is ideal during the 9:00 PM hour, Saturday August 3- the 10th. Our venue is called Venue 45, and it is a thrust stage with a very underground feel.
Venure 45 seats 90.
Our budget for "theater rental" has been worked into our overall cost of the trip, and aside from flight and lodging, it represents one of the largest individual costs.
The final space can be seen online at http://www.thespaceuk.com. I hope you are as excited about it as we are!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
