We started with the simple idea that things should last, and look beautiful doing it.
As furniture designers and builders developing our first series, we fully endorse investing in well-made things that function beautifully and look great. In this case we just couldn't find anything that did – so we did what we do and started making our own.
Prototyping is complete. We are now seeking funds to start production runs and further streamline our manufacturing process. Any extra dough we raise will help us purchase bigger, better machines to make bigger and better things in the future. (Like the small tables in some of the pics ...shhh). We post progress and process on our facebook page too, so don't forget to give that a look-see.
Process and Design
MetalPress Coasters are made locally in Phoenix, AZ from 1/8" solid aluminum and take advantage of a unique etching process that results in a highly detailed, embossed metal surface. Final coasters are 3.5" in diameter. Not too big, but not too small.
Black paint is then applied below the surface on which your glass sits. This prevents damage to your new favorite coaster and, more importantly, your favorite tumbler. The cork backs are non-slip and ensure your surfaces are safe. Frankly, we just love cork!
Coaster Base. A docking station of sorts – milled by hand in our shop from solid blocks of hardwood. Sanded until glass smooth, hand finished with danish oil and satin polyurethane. Each one gets a custom made aluminum inset that matches your new coasters and keychains as well.
Production. We already have relationships established with our local manufacturer and have produced limited, but successful, test runs. Now we just need to ramp it up to full production levels!
• Made from aluminum and solid hardwood
• Will not stain from spilled liquids or condensation from glasses
• Will not bleed through or scratch your furniture’s surface
• Will never wear out or need to be replaced
• Gauranteed to make your friends jealous

Why Kickstarter Kickstarter has become the forum to share ideas with like minded people who appreciate the thought, craft, and time it takes to execute those ideas. There was never any question that we wanted to be a part of this community!
Risks and challenges
Coming from an advertising, web and graphic design background, we understand production deadlines, project coordination, and super pissed off clients all too well. Our combined knowledge of the pitfalls inherent in the creative and production process will help us avoid potential problems and solve unforeseen issues quickly.
Time management is our biggest challenge at this point. Delays in material delivery, machinery malfunctions, and the sheer amount of time & effort required to produce these finely crafted modern goods makes them a challenge. But, anything worth doing… right?!
From experience, we've found that having a working prototype is not enough. In order to deliver on time, we’ve already begun limited production, and will use the experience gained through this process to ensure timely delivery.
NOW IT'S YOUR TURN! In order to be successful, we need your help getting the word out. Every little bit helps, so please feel free to share and repost.
Our sincerest gratitude for taking the time to view our project, and thanks in advance to all backers! We absolutely appreciate it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
