A music book of notation and tablature with a companion CD. It'll include at least nine of my original classic Ragtime compositions.
Hi, Dakota Dave Hull here. Over the last few years I've been asked by a lot of people if I have notation or tablature of some of my music and sadly, I've had to say no. But I have become convinced that there's a growing number of people who would be interested in such a book, particularly of my classic Ragtime work.
I started looking into the possibilities a couple of years ago; doing a book of this type and a companion CD is a pretty daunting task. Some of the things I'll have to deal with are the notation and tablature, the layout and graphics, the actual printing, recording, mixing and mastering the CD, the replication and packaging, promotion and distribution … whew! You get the idea — it's a lot of work and a lot of expense.
I'll try to break down what I know about it so far: a professional to deal with the notation and tab is going to cost at least $3-4000. The graphics and layout will add another thousand and my best guess on the printing is at least 2k more. The recording, mixing and mastering of the rags will run about the same as recording a solo CD, I would think, maybe in the neighborhood of $2000 or a bit more. Replication and packaging the CD with the book is more still, and then it becomes necessary to promote it to let people know that it's out there. I think in order to do the project right I'll need somewhere in the neighborhood of ten thousand dollars. I'll guarantee you a really nice book!
Here are a few links to some of the music I'm planning to include:
I'll be updating this page from time to time during the project to keep you abreast of what's going on. Thanks a ton for your participation!
