A forward-looking update!
Tonight would have been our end-of-Kickstarter countdown. Instead, I'm thrilled to share that it's going to be a party, and a smashing one, at that: with more than 15,000 Facebook folks expressing interest in the nightmarket, we expect a crowd...
This failed campaign was a winner for a few reasons:
1. Incredible press coverage: http://www.longfellownokomismessenger.com/junket-makes-room-for-all-square-restaurant-joins-forces-for-social-good/
2. We found fixturing! Given the absence of a supply chain for reuse (see also: problems I'm working to solve), I had needed to plan for retail-like costs as we got ready to downsize on a schedule. Instead, we got lucky with a well-timed discovery of industrial shelving that is now installed in the shop (with more pieces pending). That whole 'squeeze everything into a smaller space' idea has become a real thing.
BTW, if you're not familiar with the University of Minnesota's Reuse Program, I encourage you to get acquainted.
3- Instead of fundraising, I've spent the last two weeks on a deep dive at the shop, and without the steady inflow of other folks' stuff, we've been able to really get through much of what has been patiently awaiting our time and attention: before we officially downsize, we're filling up the soon-to-be-grilled-cheese square footage for a killer Clearance event -- which, incidentally, begins today.
4- We're still hiring (and we're figuring it out as we go, as we have in the past).
5- Grilled cheese remains ON for later this fall.
There's more - but we're off to discover! The week ahead holds meetings with funders, founders, and applicants, more shelf-filling in the new shop footprint, and a continued push of goods through the Clearance room... oh, and fun. So much fun!
Thanks, once again, for backing this project (and, more importantly, for putting your support behind our efforts). See you at the NightMarket, perhaps?
