I have been drawing comics for nearly 30 years, however, many of the comics I have drawn for pleasure have never been published. To address this, last year, my friend and I successfully kickstarted our first self published comic, Britformers, which was a real passion project for us.
I am now keen to repeat that success with a story I drew over 10 years ago: The Damned Knight, a story following the life, the death and afterlife of a knight, slain in the height of battle.
I wrote and drew this story at a time in my life we can all relate to; young, ambitious, hungry, and getting no where fast. Every day seemed a fight for survival, and the tone of this story reflects that. To get this book viewed by a larger audience would mean so much to me, it would be like clearing a skeleton (pun intended!) out of my closet.
Printing small quantities of comics is expensive per unit, if just 50 people pledge to buy the comic, we can take this book to print.
The art is completed and has patiently waited over a decade to be published, and so timescales for this comic will be swift. The digital download will be available almost immediately once Kickstarter has confirmed backer payment, with the physical art available just a month later (this allows for administrative processing of the Kickstarter campaign itself and then time for the print run to be completed). I have included all the original artwork in the pledges, and this will be dispatched pretty much as soon as the backers surveys are completed. We aim to have a quick and seamless turn around on this campaign.
This comic contains references of a mild sexual nature and some moderate violence. Reader discretion is therefore advised, with a suggested age limit of 15.
Of all the comics and characters I have drawn, The Damned Knight is the one that haunts me, even after all these years. Help me bring him to the printed page, and back this campaign. Thanks again for your support.
Risks and challenges
All artwork has been completed and so I am ready to go to print, backers can therefore be confident that I will fulfil my half of the deal. For my previous Kickstarter, Britformers, we utilised the Itch.io platform to deliver digital copies, we found this to be a quick and effective way to share the digital media and have been able to set this up in advance of this Kickstarter, meaning I am already in a position to deliver the digital pledge.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
