Limited Edition Baba Yaga's Hut
Six years ago we were first introduced to the world of Midgard by the folks over at Kobold Press and their Kobold-in-Chief Wolfgang Baur. Midgard has grown considerably in that time, especially with the recent release of the Midgard Campaign Setting.
But in all that time one problem has remained - how to represent the unique characters and races from Midgard on the gaming table. Perhaps a skeleton for an Imperial Ghoul? A goblin for a Kobold? And what about Dragonkin, Gear Mages, Harem Assassins? And with the newly released Campaign setting even more people are now in need of characters and monsters to suit their game for this wonderful new world.
Well EasternFront Studios and Kobold Press have teamed up to bring the world of Midgard to life on your gaming table with an exciting new range of quality miniatures.
Mick Leach and his stable of talented artists and sculptors have already started work on bringing these miniatures to your gaming table. The initial goal is to fund the production of 6 miniatures of the same quality that you have come to expect from EasternFront Studios. Check out pics of the initial minis below - the Dwarf Wanderer, Ghoul Necromancer, Gear Mage, Harem Assassin, Bone Collective and Aboleth.
Here in our trading house you'll find the various minis you can choose from. All Type M, or man-sized or smaller minis count as a single Mini Choice. Type L or larger minis count as multiple choices.
For example, if you want an Aboleth, either add $20 to your pledge, or trade in 5 of your Type M choices.
Only Bandits and higher can access the Type L Choices, Add-Ons, Extras and Upgrades. Goblins are only able to make a single choice from the Type M choices and Thralls are unable to access the goodies that can be found here. These restrictions are due to postage costs being included in the higher levels.
Stretch Goals - Baba Yaga Horsemen
Our next 3 Stretch Goals are Baba Yaga's Horsemen Red Sun, White Day and Black Night (also known as Red, White and Black). These three horsemen are legends throughout Midgard, and are Grandmother Winter's faithful emissarys, scouts and warriors abroad.
$28,000 - Red Sun
If we reach $28,000 Red Sun will be unlocked for backers to select. He will cost 3 Type M Choices or +$12.
$30,000 - White Day
If we reach $30,000 White Day will be unlocked for backers to select. He will cost 3 Type M Choices or +$12.
$32,000 - Black Night
If we reach $32,000 Black Knight will be unlocked for backers to select. He will cost 3 Type M Choices or +$12.
$28,000 Bonus Mini - Neimheim Gnome
Continuing the Baba Yaga theme, we have our first bonus Gnome. Gnomes in Midgard struck a deal with Baba Yaga and struck an infernal bargain with her for power.
If we reach $28,000 we'll give everyone who gets BANDIT KING reward level or higher a Neimheim Gnome.
$30,000 Bonus Mini - Kobold Cthulhu
If we reach $30,000 we'll give everyone who gets GUILD LEADER reward level or higher another free mini - the Kobold Cthulhu.
$32,000 Bonus Mini - Kobold Beetle Rider
If we reach $32,000 we'll give everyone who gets GUILD LEADER reward level or higher another free mini - the Kobold Beetle Rider.
We want to try and make this kickstarter as flexible for you as possible and minimise complex trades so we can focus on making you quality miniatures and getting them to your gaming table as quickly as possible.
Each miniature in this kickstarter is classified as one of 2 types: Type M (up to 35mm in height) or Type L (over 35mm in height). Each Pledge Level from GOBLIN onwards gives you the choice of one or more Type M miniatures that you can choose from the initial list and any unlocked through stretch goals. These choices can also be traded in for Type L minis. The Eastern Front Trading House section below outlines how many Type M choices each Type L mini counts as.
The Trading House also contains other extras and options that you can add to your pledge and rewards. For example, you can add more Type M and Type L minis to your rewards and 'upgrade' your resin Type M miniatures to metal (Type L miniatures, such as the Aboleth, cannot be made in metal).
All rights to the custom miniatures remain with EasternFront Studios and Kobold Press. This includes sole rights to manufacture and produce them.
Finally, you can choose a maximum of 10 miniatures of a specific model due to Kickstarter guidelines.
We have four fantastic sculptors working on this project. Here is a little bit about them.
Tim Prow has been sculpting for 15 years and has produced work for FASA, WizKids, and Reaper. He spends much of his current time running his own studio, through which his work he has been involved in film and TV.
Jason Wiebe has sculpted for Reaper, Dragon Forge, WizKids and Wizards of the Coast and is the chief wizard at Pariah Artworks. He is also sculpting the miniatures for Low Life and will initially be responsible for any and all kobolds in this kickstarter.
Fancagne Didier, in addition to being a renowned sculptor, is also multi-lingual speaking Vietnamese, Vanuatu Seke, English and French. He is spending much of his recent time sculpting for Kaha Miniatures.
Drew Williams is a regular at Gen Con, won 2 Frothers Unite! Pro-Am sculpting competitions, has sculpted for AEG, EM-4 Miniatures, Demonblade Games and Black Orc Games and sculpts maquettes for Pixar.
Thanks to all of our wonderful backers who went on this amazing ride with us and helped us kickstarter the Midgard Miniatures line.
Your support is greatly appreciated and each and every one of you rock.
Keep an eye out for us in the future as we have much more planned and with your help we can bring even more awesome miniatures to your gaming table.
Post Kickstarter Communication Plan
It is very important to us that we keep you up to date with what is happening regarding your pledges and rewards.
So we want to let you know our communication plan - basically how often we plan to publish updates about the projects progress.
- January and February: monthly updates
- March onwards: fortnightly updates
- April: Kickstarter Survey
Of course, this is the bare minimum contact we commit to. If we have more to tell you, or need to tell you important information, we will do so in addition to these updates.
Also, we will provide more frequent information on our facebook forums so they are also a good place to check and keep track of.
In January and February, Kickstarter and Amazon will be collecting payments from you and transfer them to us. This process is meant to take about 2 weeks but there are nearly always delays and issues with it. Also during this time we'll be assigning the remaining unlocked sculpts to our sculptors. During this time there won't be much that is interesting to tell you. Some cool stuff no doubt. But not a lot.
Once the sculptors start completing their greens, however, we'll have more to show you and this will help you start to make decisions about which minis you want. Then of course as the day of delivery arrives we want to let you know as soon as they've been cast and shipped to you.
Risks and challenges
Eastern Front Studios has acquired the exclusive licensing rights to produce the Official Midgard RPG miniatures line and has worked with Kobold Press and Wolfgang Baur on this project for nearly 2 years. This has allowed us to address the risks during the pre-production and production phases to make sure that the necessary infrastructure is in place to be able to deliver these miniatures to you.
We have a lot of experience in delivering rewards for kickstarters through running the Dwarf Gladiators kickstarter and supporting others such as the Fallen City of Carez boardgame by Golden Egg, Andy Hopp's Low Life Miniatures and the Bleeding Hollow by TPK Games.
Based on this experience we know that there are a number of points in the process where delays can occur:
■ Quality Control
At the moment, Bleeding Hollow, Fallen City and Dwarf Gladiators are all on schedule and expected to meet their shipping dates. Low Life has been slightly delayed but is expected to ship in January, within 4 weeks of its initial delivery date.
The expanded team is staying focused on keeping our many newly made friends up-to-date with these projects and answering any questions they may have.
The biggest challenge we can think of is that of extreme success. We have prepared as best as possible for this outcome. The first 6 of these miniatures are already made in preproduction GREENS and we have dozens of possible designs ready to give to our professional and talented sculptors, who are up to the job. The one thing it might do is delay our ability to send out the final rewards to you by a few months. Of course we'll keep you completely informed of any challenges or obstacles such as these that might affect our delivery dates throughout the kickstarter and beyond.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Can I pledge for a limited reward, like one of the Huts, and one of the non-limited levels like Dwarf, Scout etc?
Yes you can. Pledge the total amount of money needed to cover both (e.g. if you want a Veela Hut ($150) and Scout ($70), you would pledge a total of $220 and select the Veela Hut reward. Then you'll get the two rewards you want and any bonus minis you qualify for (in this example the hut, 15 minis and the bonus kobolds available for Scout). We'll ask you in the survey after the kickstarter what you selected with your pledge, but if you want to PM us now and explain the various pledge levels you've selected that'd be awesome.
Yes again. Pledge the total amount of money needed to cover both rewards, select the highest limited reward you want, and send us a PM explaining your pledge to us (e.g a hut, Dwarf Chief and 3 extra minis) and we'll manually adjust the number available of the lower limited reward level for you.
Backers who already receive a specific kobold for free can get additional copies as either a Type M choice or for $4. Backers at Bandit or higher who do not already receive a free copy can purchase a kobold for $4.
Bandit, Kobold, Peasant, Adventurer, Aberration and Aberration Lord backers can purchase a kobold for $4.
Dwarf backers and higher can get additional copies of Lothaus (kobold miner) and Myrt (kobold druid) as Type M choices or for $4 each.
The short answer is yes, including the various hut levels and HERALD. So if you are pledged at VEELA you'll get all the kobolds unlocked at DWARF, SCOUT and GEARFORGED but not any unlocked at GUILD LEADER. Please note that it is the reward level you've pledged for, not necessarily the amount you've pledged, because it makes it easier for us to keep track of. But we'll clear this up in the post kickstarter and try our best to make sure you get what you want and if you've pledged for multiple levels and let us know we've made note of that too.
How does the shipping work if I have pledged for multiple levels with different shipping dates? Do I get one package or multiple?
Well the plan is to send only 1 package to each backer. So if you've pledged for MARGRAVE and GUILD LEADER you'll get your goodies in September. However, if you want to receive multiple shipments and are prepare to pay a bit more for shipping then contact us as I'm sure we can work something out once the kickstarter is over.
Sure, send us a PM by using the 'Contact Me' button on the right above the rewards and we'll help you get what you want.
The existing EFS miniatures come in metal and cost the amount shown. So if it says they count as 1 Type M choice or +$4, that means you get that metal mini for $4.
The only exception is the Offal Worm who only comes in resin and not metal.
The scale of these minis varies but it is mainly 28mm. If you want to know the scale for a specific mini ask Mick in the comments section or contact him personally using the 'Contact Me' option.
