I'd have to say the main reason why i didn't back this at a higher level (I only went in for $5) is because I don't see the point of creating another flight system board game. X-WIng is huge and has that market wrapped up. There's nothing truly differentiating your game from that and taking them head on is a bad idea. Now, if you were doing what you should've been doing and kickstarting FreeSpace 3 video game, now THAT'S an entirely different ball game. I would've backed that in an instant.
austinwcraig on January 11, 2015
Putting out the info of a kickstarter ahead of time might not be a bad idea. Like these gents did. http://www.bluesnews.com/s/158085/shadowrun-hong-kong-kickstarter-tuesday

"I'm sorry to hear that this did not work out as hoped. I respectfully suggest that what this campaign lacked was a bit more hype. I only came across it by accident, via a general post on the BGG site. The game's page on BGG has only two very brief discussions. If/when you look to reboot, you might consider spending a few months using that space to get people excited. Build some momentum before launching the Kickstarter. "
i second this.

Thank you for the feedback!

I'm sorry to hear that this did not work out as hoped. I have the impression that someone issued a press release that got picked up by a few video game oriented sites, but I wonder if the is ultimately the audience that will fund this project. I think if you have solid board game to offer, get the board gamers excited and engaged. Get them talking about it and then take it Kickstarter. I don't think the problem is with the concept or the bits. Good luck!
Matthew Guggemos on January 8, 2015
Sorry to see it cancelled, and I'll definitely contribute again if you guys relaunch. If you do however, I'd have a couple of suggestions:
1) Paint a couple of the minis, just to show us how great they look.
2) Run a sample game!
Otherwise - love the game, love the idea. I have a few friends who never got into miniature war gaming but loved Freespace, and they were genuinely excited to get in on it.
Steve S on January 8, 2015
Good call folks, don't be disheartened by the false start - this is a project that could really excel with the right campaign.
Most of my group are miniatures focused wargamers, so for our part I'd still say that you need to get in touch with a manufacturer or even a distributor like CMoN, ramp up the mini quality and figure out your price point to maximize the box contents.
Also worth considering a printed paper 'star map' or something in the box. As another consideration, some sort of 'AI' automation using a card deck to allow for purely co-operative gaming is always a winner. Oh, and please, tease with a Shivan stretch goal.
Finally, whilst I'm sure it was well intentioned, the reference to this campaign being used to gauge interest in a FS3 release... I'd drop that reference. Whilst I'm sure we'd all love to see a 3rd Freespace, referencing it here doesn't really add anything, focus on producing a well themed board game that's the best it can be.
Keep us updated guys, look forward to hearing more from you.

Contact Jamey Stegmaier…really. Look for his Euphoria & Tuscany kickstarters. He's run some very successful ones and consults with other board game ks creators.
FreeSpace Development Corp Creator on January 8, 2015
Thank you, all. We are encouraged by the suggestions. We are talking internally about relaunching, but we would love more feedback on how to make it a better campaign. We have our own ideas on how to improve it, but anything that you would care to share would be most appreciated.
In the meantime, we will cancel this project. We really believe in this game and we're going to spend a little bit of time on how to rework it to make it even better.
Thanks again!

Please relaunch this!!! Put a bit more into the models and design. For what it's worth I shared on Facebook
Steve S on January 5, 2015
For what it's worth, I'd suggest relaunching this Chris & co.
You need to contact manufacturers, identify materials, get actual costs and look at the 'competition' in this area (eg X-Wing mini's game).
Don't be offput, relaunch the kickstarter with better presentation, higher quality models, more detail and a more reasonable quantity of contents or a lower price point and I'm sure you'll find a lot more interest.
Good luck either way
Andy Dunks on January 4, 2015
Chris, I too want to encourage to carry on. This game looks to have enormous potential. Perhaps you could release the rules, cards and dice and work to offer the models at a later date? In any case, I look forward to further developments.
Chris Taylor on January 1, 2015
Happy New Year!
We are discussing options but haven't finalized any plans at this time.

"So what is Plan B...? Is there a possibility of moving ahead if the goal is not reached?"
I 2nd this question.
LS650 on December 31, 2014
I hate to say it, but with 11 days to go, it looks to me as though this Kickstarter campaign will not reach its goal of $75,000....
However, there are 250 supporters so far willing to put down some money, including myself.
So what is Plan B...? Is there a possibility of moving ahead if the goal is not reached?
John Murphy on December 26, 2014
Christmas wishes from Liverpool, England.
Please tell everyone you know to back this. Apart from being a great looking board game, it could lead to a new video game.
It's the right time, tge interest is there. Let's do it!

Gentlemen, I am backing this at the $70 reward level. Please, please, PLEASE give me a reason to throw more money at you. Signed boxes (by you or by people involved with the game), blank cards, addons: extra ship packs, downloads of the originals games, extra-large pilot cards with custom abilities and art, a print-n-play version, whatever!
I WANT TO GIVE YOU ALL OF MY MONIES!
Troy Freiuth on December 19, 2014
idea:
1. all who donate 150, 250?? dollars are invited to a launch party with the developer(s). play the game with them at the party.
2. 1000 dollars. immortalize... your initials will be carved into a ship of your choosing, or something along those lines
3. autographed/ special edition copy of game
4. free Freespace game DRM free
FreeSpace Development Corp Creator on December 19, 2014
We considered a tier with a customized pilot, but the card size is cramped at 2.5" x 3.5" for an image of the pilot backer (we tried it). We'd have to go to a larger card size, which affects the cost of goods. We will absolutely give it some more thought and see if we can come up with a creative solution.
Troy Freiuth on December 18, 2014
darn auto correct, should say immortalize
Troy Freiuth on December 18, 2014
I like the idea of connecting this to the pc games in some way to generate press and interest from that side of the aisle... I also think some higher tiers could potentially be useful, especially if it involved some way for the large donor to import alive themselves, hang with the developer, or make some creative contributing...
austinwcraig on December 18, 2014
An easy way to generate some hype would be to introduce a new tier where you get both freespace PC games via steam or gog.com
2nd, new higher tier for a signed copy of the game box.
3rd, your likeness is put on a card as a pilot.
Hype is your friend gentlemen.
LS650 on December 17, 2014
I like what I see and have signed up at the 'Pilot' level. I look forward to reading and seeing more details.
Troy Freiuth on December 17, 2014
Off to a really nice start but I agree with Adam that we need lots of updates and specifics to get this moving faster and further. perhaps some exclusive interviews could be given to different sites where the new info is first
divulged. Basically excitement generated with each tidbit of new info.
FreeSpace Development Corp Creator on December 17, 2014
@Adam: Thank you for the feedback. We are working on a new update with gameplay details.
Adam Coulson on December 17, 2014
Sad to say, but I feel this kickstarter is way too premature. No rules, no gameplay, and even the components are just very very early prototypes. Nothing to draw in backers outside of the name. :/ I know all that stuff is coming, but perhaps the campaign should have been postponed a couple of months till everything was in a more enticing state.

Scott Everts on December 16, 2014
You guys might want to put up some pictures on your BoardGameGeek page. At the very least the box. Maybe consider running ads there too. Just a few suggestions to get more exposure.

Thanks for the response, will look forward to hearing/seeing more from you
FreeSpace Development Corp Creator on December 16, 2014
@Mathew: For forward compatibility. Not all scenarios use the shields.
@Steve: I'll get those answers for you. We are working on new renders.
Steve S on December 16, 2014
As a dedicated wargamer and big fan of freespace I'm excited to see this launch but do have a few concerns. On the quality being shown so far, pricing is way out for the mini's here. So, a few questions to help me (and hopefully other wargamers) decide
1)Can we see the renders of the intended production mini's please?
2)Which company are you contacting to help with production and distribution
3)What material is being used for the mini's?
Mathew Smith on December 16, 2014
So petty lore quibble, if this is set in the Terran-Vasudan war why is there a shields mechanic?
Haris Khan on December 15, 2014

Totally needs Sobeks and Deimos for some nice bomber runs. And Hercs Mk2, lots of Hercs
Rock-n-Roll on December 13, 2014
Will there be retail support following the KS or is the KS the only way to get the game?
Derek Guiliano on December 13, 2014
I'm not going to lie. I barely got through the video when I pledged. I am soooo looking forward to this! Looks tons of fun. Freespace and Freespace 2 were amazing space sims, and if this gets it one step closer to a freespace 3, then I am all in!
FreeSpace Development Corp Creator on December 13, 2014
Thanks for the ideas, Austin.
austinwcraig on December 12, 2014
I would like to see some higher tiers for donations. Maybe one where if you give xxx you get to put a likeness of you on a card as a pilot. Maybe another tier where the team signs the box.
Just ideas.
zarathud on December 12, 2014
I have two missions on the Space Sim of the Year Edition and did mission reviews at FreeSpace Watch. There's no way I can not get in on this Kickstarter, Chris. Just include the card: "Dive Dive Dive!" or "Hit your burners, pilot!"
Rock-n-Roll on December 12, 2014
I'm looking forward to this. Freespace is the game that got me into online gaming way back in the day. Free space is one of the most nostalgic titles for me. -Rock-n-Roll, formerly SSC, RN. Currently SSX.

We are a little over 7% funding right now. Pretty good so far. We still need to spread the word far and wise to FB, Twitter, gaming and board game sites.
