Dearest friends, we’ve collected the required amount! And that means that the following 7 months we’ll be working exclusively on our short animation, and it brings us great joy! If we manage to collect more - we’ll be able to afford more equipment and materials to work with. So, if we reach 20 000$ during the remaining 2 days, we’ll be able to film 20-second short for our characters - it will be a pilot episode for a possible upcoming series!
Linden Tar is a stop-motion animated movie short with overall running time of 5 minutes. This is the story about overcoming your fears and realizing you don't have to do everything by yourself. Our hero will be forced to leave the comfort of his home and face the huge world that lives by unknown laws and is filled with dangers. But what would happen if he opens his heart to this world?
Currently we have finished pre-production stage and have launched actual production. We have some dolls and sets, a movie script and an animatic, a work schedule for 8 months and 1 minute of the actual movie footage. We also have a deadline - 15th February is the last day of application submissions for the Annecy International Animated Film festival which we would very much like to attend. And we need your help to complete the project.
We are experimenting with different materials all the time, searching for new props and collecting all kinds of things to make our dolls and sets: from rusty steel to tweaks covered with moss. Every detail in the movie has its own story: it may have been found on the street, bought from the flea-market, received as a gift from a friend or even found in our own closet. This is how the shots are filled with life.
Music for this video made our good friend Sasha Bondarev.
The light plays its own unique part in our movie. It even requires some animation from time to time. It flickers, fades away just like the last ray of setting sun and comes back all of the sudden with the light of petroleum lamp. Typically setting up forefront lighting takes about 6 hours of team work by director and cameraman. Sometimes we have to drop a single finest ray to bring out a grasshopper from the background or create a reflex on the shaded side of a puppet's face. It's a highly time consuming but also a very exciting process.
Each and every scene in stop motion is a new journey that can take you anywhere. And after a scene is finished you're not able to change anything. Every time regardless of how well you've prepared the scene you just take this journey, without knowing what will come out at the end. Therefore we usually make 2-6 takes until the entire team is happy with the result.
We’ve chosen the song “Halfsleeper” by Chelsea Wolfe for the musical score of our movie. Seeing that this is a non-profit project, we’ve reached out to the singer and got her permission to use the music in our movie.
Up until now we have been working on the movie after work and on weekends and paying for assets and equipment out of our own pockets. It was fun and exciting, but also extremely SLOW. We’d like to not only have fun in process of filming, but see the end result before growing old (we’d like to have some time left to visit at least a few festivals!). So primarily, we need money for food and clothing for the team members. We also need to pay the rent for our flat, which is also our filming studio. Our goal is to film every day consequently finishing the movie faster. Also we need a slider for panoramic scenes, lease of a rapid camera for one full day and other sweets of life.
You can see more in our update #4

We are planning to make more movies later on, so this communication is vital for us. We also like the idea of being supported by people eager to watch our movie. Risks and challenges
We do have a finished script, an animatic, a strict filming schedule and some experience, and, most importantly, a deadline, which we are striving to meet by all means, but production of an animated movie is a live process. Some changes, delays or even unexpected circumstances may happen, which would potentially lead to increasing production period. But we are planning to make the production process as transparent as possible for backers to make sure you not only learn a lot about the filming process, but also would be up to date on any delays or changes. It may be even more exciting to see us overcome some obstacles, react and adapt production processes to various situations than to watch everything run along the same old tracks without any improvisation or resistance. Anyway, it's up to you to take this road with us and feel the joy of crossing the finish line.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
