About

Drastic Measures is designed to be the middle ground between more complex games like D&D or Warhammer, and  simpler games like Risk.  Each player picks a race (rules exist for mixtures) and assembles an army of units that vary in strength and utility.  Each unit has a specific name that coordinates its abilities, weaknesses, and expense.  A basic unit, having less effect on other pieces, will cost less to add to your army.  A cowboy with a single pistol and 20HP will cost 15 points to add, whereas a bazooka-wielding soldier, even with the same 20HP, will cost 75 points.  A squad consists of 1-6 units that move and attack together.

Players agree on a maximum point value before the game.  So in a 100 point game, you can have 6 of those single pistol cowboys with 10 points left over(15 pts. each), compared to just one bazooka and twenty five points left over. You want a T-Rex or Triceratops? You're talking more than 100 points now! The point system aims to balance strong and weak pieces.

A table is required, and players set up on opposite sides of it.  Terrain may be added to the table (DIY).  Rules are included for basic terrain dynamics.  From an edge of the table, each player has 6" to set up his/her army in at least 3 separate squads.  Initiative is decided with a D6.

Whoever gets first turn chooses a squad to move and/or fire.  If a squad is moved, each unit loses one action for the turn.  This could mean the unit can't do anything this turn at all, but some units in the squad may have more than one action per turn. 

Each player alternates turns until only one army remains.

As of now, this game is being alpha-tested.  We have the rules written and have collected enough toy soldiers, cowboys, indians, pirates, and dinosaurs to play large games. In order to beta-test,  we need to accrue a much larger group to iron out kinks and possibly create new dynamics for future games, optional rules, and more customization utility.

Risks and challenges

This being our first endeavor,we don't yet have the capabilities for fabricating the pieces. This page is designed to sell the idea, and get funding to make the project tangible. After this Kickstarter is completed, I plan to begin making the full product, not just the rulebook. We're in the process of contacting some of the companies that produce the miniatures we've been using to play, and are hoping to procure the rights to use these pieces for the game, instead of fabricating custom miniatures.
The big risk here is uniqueness. There are thousands of board and tabletop games. This one's different. With games like D&D and Warhammer, a player can get a lot of custom game-play dynamics, but it can take years and hundreds of dollars to collect the necessities. Drastic Measures is "all in one" the way a simple $20 board game is, yet allows for a variety of game-play styles, to maximize customization.

    This is a donation to our patent fund. All we ask is that you leave us a bit of info, maybe a link or two. If you're into it, one buck gets ya a copy of the rulebook! This has the description of the units, and how they will interact with enemy and friendly units. This also includes all the general game-play rules. They will be emailed to minimize cost. With these rules printed, one would still need to purchase dice (d4,d6,d8,d10,d12,d20) and appropriate miniatures. Races include Cowboys, Indians, Soldiers, Pirates, and Dinosuars. All of these miniatures can be purchased at the local dollar store. Estimated cost to start a 10 person game: $30.
