Unfettered is the title of my upcoming project of "singer-songwriter" type music. I qualify that last sentence with quote marks because sometimes I do albums that are strictly "everybody sing along in a Christian gathering" music, also known as "praise and worship." This ain't that. If you've followed my career at all then you're probably familiar with my albums And all the Decorations Too or Perhaps I've Said Too Much. This record is more in that vein. With these kinds of projects, my desire is to really explore the deeper and less-talked-about aspects of following Jesus and living out His Kingdom and mission in the world. I love worship music, but this is my true passion as a writer, and I couldn't be more excited about these songs and this project. I honestly, truly think it's my best work ever. As for what the project and songs are about, watch the video to get a hint or two about that.
Anyway, feel free to ask me any questions about the project and/or about this kickstarter campaign. You can message me directly on this site or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I know lots of people are skeptical about "crowd-funding" and I honestly used to be as well. But I've come to realize that it is a normal and -- at times -- necessary part of making independent music in the current economic climate of the music business. And it's a fantastic way for me to connect with my friends, fans, and supporters.
OK, that paragraph was boring. Sorry. How about this: I am super excited about this new record and I can't wait for you to hear it. I've already done (and paid for) lots of the work on the record, but this campaign -- if successful -- will allow me to finish the rest of it in a high-quality and low-stress manner. So check out the campaign and the rewards and, if you feel compelled to support, please do!
Risks and challenges
As with my last project, I don't anticipate a lot of risks or challenges, because I've already done most of the toughest parts. All the songs are written, and I'm about halfway done with the recording. I have all the relationships, connections and general "know-how" to finish the "musical" part of the project, just not all the funds.
At this point, since I've done most of the creative grunt work, I just need to complete the recording, then have it mixed, mastered, graphic-designed, packaged and marketed. I already have lots of those contacts (mixing and mastering engineers, designers, etc) and they already know what they're supposed to do. I just have to pay them to do it. I've done over a dozen records in my career, so I know how to do this. It's just tougher than it used to be to make any money selling music. Hence the campaign.
Obviously there are unforeseen things that always arise, but I'm fortunate to have a lot of friends and connections in my business who I can hire to get it done as long as the funding is available.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
