It's been centuries since humanity fled the planet after an unknown disaster covered the Earth's surface with a mysterious miasma. Unfortunately for humanity's last space colony, resources are low, and returning back home is the only option.
In State of Flux, you play as Renat, a software technician who has been drafted into the final scouting party to find a place for your colony to return to Earth safely.
There's just one problem: your ship exploded into pieces re-entering the Earth's atmosphere, and now you're stranded without equipment or your team. It will be up to you to help Renat figure his way out of this situation!
Good News though! While Earth might have been abandoned by humans, it's far from empty! Granted, the planet is not quite the same as it was before.
Inhabited now by a world of anthropomorphic animal people, the ruins of modernity have given away to small pockets of civilization reminiscent of something from a fantasy. It's a land where most contemporary technology is still in the process of being rediscovered and society has long since filed the "era of humans" away as a footnote in history. Along your adventure it will be up to you to discover how this happened.
Renat will have to be careful, however, as not everyone is as friendly as they might first seem.
It doesn't take long before Renat learns that whatever happened to the planet is happening to the scouting party as well. How Renat handles these changes will vary based on your decisions.
The environment itself has the capacity to change its inhabitants in unique and sometimes bizarre ways. Will you risk traversing wetlands that can turn you into a monstrous dragon? Or will you navigate through an enchanted party that replaces your personality and alters your body to match your new outlook on life?
Be warned! Society has adapted, and in some cases even embraced these transformative effects. So be careful! That cake you just bought might have more in it than just a bit of sugar!
Your choices will transform Renat, the party, and shape the story itself. State of Flux will track your decisions and different plot arcs; opportunities, transformations, and romances will reveal or close themselves accordingly. With multiple ways to complete the game, some more hidden than others, how will you tackle Renat's mission?
Your decisions won't be a matter of choosing good or evil, but rather managing the consequences of your actions. Choices will spiral out to different story arcs, leading you to entirely different locations, gaining and losing different party members and changing the message of the story itself. These decisions will compound over the course of the game, meaning that decisions you make from the very start will impact the rest of the story.
Transformations of all sorts
State of Flux will feature a wide variety of transformations, many of which showcase non-traditional body types and presentations. Both Renat and those that tag along will experience significant evolutions in their character, physically, mentally, and in identity.
These transformations will not only be for show, but the entire course of the story can change depending on who is with you and what form they are in during key moments of the story. How will you get through that barred window? Will you use one of your party member's newfound strength to pop the thing open, or will you be forced to try to talk your way inside?
Grow closer to your party
State of Flux will, in addition to having a traditional romance system, have different romance opportunities and scenarios based not just on which story line you are playing, but which version of Renat and which party members are present.
These different paths will show how different kinds of relationships are possible with the same person. Some romances feature their own transformations. Romantic interactions will include a variety of relationship types, including those across the LGBTQ spectrum.
$5,000 - Achieved! Project is funded!
$7,500 - Achieved! Epilogues and extended scenes.
$10,000 - Achieved! Romance upgrade. With this stretch goal, we will endeavor to add more depth, images, and romantic opportunities for each core character!
$12,500 - Achieved! Additional transformation content! With this stretch goal, we will add additional transformation content to the game, including new transformation arcs, and at least one core "long-form" transformation among the main cast, or a progression that will happen over the course of multiple scenes using multiple visual asset sets.
$15,000 - Achieved! Alternate route system. How would things have turned out with a different group of friends? With this stretch goal we will endeavor to give a boost to the game's path variations. Not merely more choices, but more varied locales, and outcomes.
$20,000 - Achieved! Digital Comic! With this stretch goal, we will make a comic featuring the characters from State of Flux in an exclusive story with new transformation content. It might be a prequel about the world prior to the events of the game, a side story about what happens to notable characters in paths where you don't personally meet them, or something more! Everyone who has pledged at the early bird tiers or above will receive this comic for free!
$25,000 - Renat's asset expansion. Renat's journey will have them develop significantly over the course of the story. With this goal we will budget additional work into showing Renat's character evolution even when they might not be experiencing a literal transformation. This might mean outfits changing to fit the weather, or the their body language or expressions changing over the course of the adventure to reflect the story's developments.
How you can help
This project would not be possible without the support and confidence of you all, so as a general stretch goal, the more funding we receive, the more polish the game will receive. This includes things such as upgrading the artwork to include dynamic poses, more varied backgrounds, and sequences.
Even if you cannot pledge to the project, you can help in other ways! We're a small team, so spreading the word means a lot! Help share about the project on social media. Tweeting and retweeting about the project goes a long way!

Risks and challenges
As this is such an early draft of the game, you can expect the project to transform considerably between now and launch (should we hit our target goal). Delays or developments might arise, but should anything happen, we will be sure to post an update.
However, we believe that by keeping the project at a realistic size for a small team, and being transparent about the process, this should be more than manageable. Volkenfox has already successfully completed a visual novel, The Pirate's Fate, through Kickstarter and is experienced with managing the workload needed to produce a game in a reasonable amount of time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
