My first book for children titled, The Mushroom Picker - Penny Bun's Great Escape, was published in 2012. The book was very well recieved and reviewed in magazines and journals such as, The Independent Magazine, Wallpaper, Another and Ernest Journal. My work with mushrooms has also featured on BBC Radio 4.
I am now creating a new adventure - a sequel to the first book. The story is titled, Penny Bun Helps Save the World, and this time the threat to Penny Bun and her friends will not come from the greedy mushroom picker but from developers who want to destroy Penny's forest home, and as a result irreparably damage the fragile ecosystem that supports fungi, plant and human life.
I have been working very hard to perfect my process and the resulting mushroom sculptures and photographic illustrations are even more sophisticated and detailed for this book. I am excited to finally share the new installment with people who already know of Penny Bun and her exploits, and also new readers.
So, if you are an adult or child of any age, a fungi fanatic, a food lover, or even someone who despises mushrooms but delights in unusual illustration and a fun folk tale, then this is the book for you.
Please help Penny Bun Help Save the World!
Risks and challenges
In 2014 I received an award from The Arts Council to assist with the research and development of this project. The funds raised from this campaign will be used for the final pre-press and printing element of the book which will be produced and published by GOST books and printed in Verona, ready for the autumn harvest. Together we will produce a book that can be cherished and passed down through generations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
