I Have No Witty Title Ready

Hey guys. I have the flu, I think, or something, so this update is going to be straight to the point. Let's start with the wallpaper again.

I call this one, "There Must Have Been Some 5th Level Transmutation Magic in That Old Silk Hat They Found." I just did this one this week because I wanted to get the seasonal theme in at the start of the season in question, just for novelty's sake. You can download them here. Enjoy.

I've been doing a little bit of everything and thus finishing not much of anything (other than that wallpaper), but I do have good news for a small group of backers who have not gotten any love in a while. I'll let Elan deliver it.

Yeah, I picked up my crayons again and am (slowly) starting to work on crayon drawings for people. I'll probably do a few more practice drawings first, actually. I have no idea what my production rate on these will be—assume not fast until proven otherwise—but these will start trickling out in the coming weeks. Non-patience drawings first, naturally. Workometer.

Finally, I need to plug my holiday products, because I still need to pay my rent and such. I've plastered them up all over the main site, but in case you didn't know, we have a new 2014 "Tenth Anniversary" wall calendar available with 12 new pieces of art based on scenes from the comic re-interpreted. Here's two samples:

There's a third sample on the order page.
There's a third sample on the order page.

So that's on sale (while supplies last) at Ookoodook, while over at the CafePress shop we have new holiday ornaments and t-shirts. You can see them here. Some of these are based on characters I created for A Monster for Every Season for this Kickstarter, such as the very-popular-so-far Unicorn Princess design, so I guess everything is full circle or something.

I'm going to try to finish as many packages (with or without crayon drawings) before the end of the year as possible, so next update will probably be another wallpaper rather than a delivered story. But if you're waiting on a package still, there's a better-than-usual chance of getting your shipping update.

I'm going back to bed. Thanks for all your patience and stuff.

It doesn't have to be anything big, just tell us something.

    2. Creator Axass on July 11, 2014

      Agreed.

    3. Creator fernando nogueira on June 19, 2014

I strongly agree with Fidelis, an update would be nice...

    4. Creator Fidelis on June 11, 2014

half a year has passed since the last update and let's not forget that this project was funded 2 1/2 years ago. I don't want to sound impatient, but there are still many promises left to get fulfilled (season monsters, short stories,...). I know there was a heavy delay due to the thumb injury, but we could at least get another update here, I think

    5. Creator Jan on May 21, 2014

Hrm, quite silent here. What's up?

    6. Creator Oregon Pinkrose on February 25, 2014

So, not that I'm waiting for anything, and I'm hoping everything is going ok, but I was interested in an update on how things are going with the workometer and you? My Roy Greenhilt magnet and I are wondering?

Hope you feel better soon Mr. Burlew. I just got over a fairly long and annoying cold myself. I totally feel your pain. And my wallet will probably feel pain soon as well because I'm seeing some sweet merch in those links.

@Giant: That fixed all the security issues.

But - I just noticed something else. The tiniest possible issue - one entire pixel wide. For all three wallpapers (Beach Party, No Encounters, and Winter) - all three of the copies labeled 1366x768 are actually 1365x768. I have no idea if that has any impact on the monitors actually built for that resolution.

I am totally down with supporting the strip by buying a calendar but 8 bucks for shipping?!

    10. Creator Sanjay Merchant on December 3, 2013

Belkar's reaction to walking on snow with bare feet is kinda priceless. :-D

    11. Creator Rich Burlew on December 3, 2013

@Peter Cohen: Those two rewards aren't going on the Workometer because they're for one person each, and I'm in touch with those people. They know when their stuff is happening. I may announce them once they're done, but there's nothing really to track anyway.

    12. Creator Peter Cohen on December 3, 2013

Woo! Sir Francois under way (as most people asked for in preference to Autumn or Winter) and a bit more plotting done on the story that we were originally promised.

Also both the signed books and the digital portraits are nearly done. And once I see progress in the crayon drawings, I'll have to compile my requirements for my patience one.

Apart from those three categories, there are two personal rewards which I don not see tracked. The character appearance and the mystery box, Here's to seeing them on the chart soon.

Get well soon Rich. I think that by this time next year, you might have got it all done.

    13. Creator Rick on December 3, 2013

@Giant On behalf of the Philippines, thanks for pitching in. I have a few friends that lost one or more family members (one that lost her entire family), and more that lost entire homes and livelihoods. Every little bit helps. /salute

    14. Creator Rich Burlew on December 3, 2013

Oh, hey, I just found out that today is something called Giving Tuesday (which I would normally complain about because do we need a special designation for every weekday after Thanksgiving, but I'm all about charity so never mind), which reminded me that I forgot to mention that $2 for every calendar sold and $1 for every holiday ornament is going to Phillipines typhoon relief, through Dec. 31st. So there's that.

    15. Creator Rich Burlew on December 3, 2013

@Dale Lythgoe: You mean besides the fact that it's all creative work that requires me to be in the right frame of mind in order to perform a given task, a thumb that does not like to do the same type of work for long stretches without complaining, and 39 years of bad work habits? Nothing.

Basically, instead of worrying that I'm not focusing on one project and finishing it, you should be happy that when I'm struggling with one project I can leap to another rather than staring at a blank page for hours/days/weeks. You can't force writing, especially writing jokes. Forcing myself to only work on one thing until it's done is a good way for not even that one thing to get done.

    16. Creator Rich Burlew on December 3, 2013

OK, access restored for 1600x900, 2560x1440, and 3360x2100 wallpapers. Are there any others that aren't working?

    17. Creator Sarah Vee on December 3, 2013

@Keith: Mr. Scruffy is a cat, he's probably too smart to play out in the snow where it's cold ;-) I love Belkar's feet turning ice-blue, I bet shoes are starting to sound pretty good to him right about now.

    18. Creator Grant Robinson on December 3, 2013

Very cute having the half-Dragon lycanthropic psionic demon snail in the background :)

    19. Creator Andreas Kaiser on December 3, 2013

      @Christian Steudtner:
      Thanks a lot!!

    20. Creator Keith Nixon on December 3, 2013

Where is Mr Scruffy in the new wallpaper. I've been assuming there was a white cat on a white background joke in there but I can't find his face!

    21. Creator Christian Steudtner on December 3, 2013

      @Andreas Kaiser:
There is a thread on the GiantITP-board regarding potential bulk-shipment of the calendar to Germany ( http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php… ). Maybe we will figure something out to save a bit on the shipping.

    22. Creator Andreas Kaiser on December 3, 2013

A shame I live in germany and shipping cocts for the calendar are higher than the price of the calendar itself :(

    23. Creator Dale Lythgoe on December 3, 2013

What is preventing you from focusing on one thing so that is done and you don't have to worry about it instead of shifting from one task to another and getting nothing done?

    24. Creator Jennifer Toone Taylor on December 3, 2013

Feel better Rich! I can confirm that the 16x9 Widescreen wallpapers for 1600x900 and 2560x1440 are not downloading. Also, the 16x10 Widescreen 3360x2100 is having the same issue. All of the other wallpapers are working fine.

    25. Creator Christian Steudtner on December 3, 2013

      @Rich:
Would you give me the permission to include that Crayon Drawing in the Kickstarter Reward Collection on the GiantITP board ( http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php… )?

And as always: Great Wallpaper [and I really need to order that Calendar!]
I hope you get well soon!

    26. Creator Sarah Vee on December 3, 2013

Having just climbed out of a sickbed myself it was nice to find the wallpaper waiting for me :-)

    27. Creator Kibosh on December 3, 2013

Amazon S3 gives me access denied on the 1600 x 900 size wallpaper.

    28. Creator Bill on December 3, 2013

      Thanks for the wallpaper!

Access denied issues with: 1600x900, 2560x1440, and 3360x2100

    29. Creator Shari Bromley on December 3, 2013

Thank you for the wallpaper, Rich. I hope you feel better soon!

    30. Creator Miles T on December 3, 2013

The new wallpaper looks great! Also, I ordered the calendar and am eagerly awaiting it. (I wanted to get the greeting cards too, but $20.95 to ship a $10 pack of six greeting cards is rather hideous, so I had to leave them). Get better soon :)

      Get well soon!

    35. Creator Matthew Murray on December 3, 2013

Hey, Rich, I love the new wallpaper. It looks like 3,300x2,100 isn't working, though.

    36. Creator Bornagaincannibal on December 3, 2013

      Fantastic as usual!

    37. Creator JU on December 3, 2013

Wee, progress on the drawings. ^^
That's one great-looking wallpaper, and calendar.

    38. Creator Michael on December 3, 2013

      It's awesome, thanks ^^

P.S. I know I usually sit and read the comments for a while to make sure no one's having technical problems with the wallpaper downloads, but the aforementioned bed-going is taking precedence right now. So if there's a problem, just leave a comment and I'll fix it tonight.
