A Word Before I Sign

Here's what's happening:

Books started shipping out on May 17th. While I don't have exact figures on how many packages have left the warehouse, I've been told that Ookoodook is averaging about 300 packages per day, which would work out to about 3600 so far. That might be a little high, though, because I don't think anyone worked on Memorial Day. Anyway, the point is that we're about halfway done with the packages that were ready to go—which, for those who don't remember the last update, were all the book or art print rewards that didn't include Sticky Shticks or an autograph from me (or other custom work like a crayon drawing or digital portrait).

Now, for Sticky Shticks, I'm happy to announce that I've made the final revisions to the cards and rulesheet based on the playtesting. We just need one more playtest/proofreading session to make sure we didn't make anything worse and then they should be ready to go to the card printer. That will probably happen early next week; my co-designer on the game, APE Games owner Kevin Brusky, is at the Origins Game Fair all this week, so he won't be able to help me with that. Still, depending on how fast the printer can turn things around, we're hoping to have Sticky Shticks in our hands by the end of June. (We would probably want to wash our hands afterward, though.)

And for autographed books, I'll be taking delivery of the copies I need to sign this Thursday. I shall then descend into a catatonic autographing fugue for an indeterminate period of time. When I emerge, a multitude of signed books should be in the mail system. Just don't expect your email notification to necessarily be sent the same day as your package; I'm a lot less efficient with paperwork stuff than Ookoodook over there.

OK, that's the status of everything, I think. Workometer.

You'll notice that I updated the three "Backer's Choice" notations with the names of the characters involved, since I started plotting one of those this week.

Five Things I Did Since the Last Update

  • Bought bristol board for the crayon drawings and tracing paper to protect the artwork from rubbing against the envelope.
  • Purchased and drove to pick up packing supplies for the autographed packages, including a giant bag of biodegradable starch packing peanuts.
  • Finished all the card art for Sticky Shticks.
  • Got about halfway through the line art AMFES file.
  • Cleaned enough space in my living room for 50 boxes of books, only to find out we're getting more like 80.

That's it for now. I hope to squeeze out a new comic between now and Thursday, because no one will probably hear from me for at least a week after that.

@Rich Burlew: Remember to stretch and rest your wrists regularly. We'd hate for you to get injured from signing too much in too short a time. No rush, we'll get stuff when it's ready. I prefer having a delay in the shipment because you take some extra breaks compared to you wearing yourself out.

My $25 + Book + extras pack arrived on Friday (UK address). Thanks Rich and Thanks Ookoodook. :)

@ Cameron Mount - My hit point pad arrived with the other items, so they have started shipping them.

We also are waiting for the print-only, but not expecting shipping email for another week or so. It's fine really, the monster mini's keep me satisfied for a long time :P

@Jake: I didn't even get my shipping email for Print Only, so you probably shouldn't worry.

    7. Jake Mandel on June 8, 2012

What about the Print Only Special? Mainly I just want to make sure that it didn't ship weeks ago and somehow not get to me, which would be a problem.

    8. Riv Swanson on June 8, 2012

Fair enough, that's a lot more idea than I had two hours ago. Danke.

    9. Rich Burlew Creator on June 8, 2012

Theoretically? Sure. Practically? No. The Whole Story is at the very end of the wave of packages Ookoodook is currently shipping. Given my conversations with them, I wouldn't expect to see it get shipped for at least another week or two.

    10. Riv Swanson on June 8, 2012

So theoretically The Whole Story ($222) is being shipped at this time?

    11. Rich Burlew Creator on June 7, 2012

Geez, the grammar in that last comment was awful. Sharpie fumes strike again, I suppose.
      @Laura Schiff: You're welcome!

    12. Rich Burlew Creator on June 7, 2012

I just said a bunch of stuff on the Comments the gist of it is: Shipping of unsigned packages are moving too slowly, Ook is working on solutions; Signed packages are being sent out by a whole different group of people in another state, so the speed of signed books has no effect on the speed of unsigned ones; I don't personally have the means to easily check exact statuses of unsigned orders; and there should be a full update late on Saturday explaining all of this in more detail. Thanks.

    13. Lolala on June 7, 2012

I just got my signed package, and I'm loving it. I didn't realize they came with small sketches of characters. They're awesome. Thanks Rich!

I also am waiting on a $35 pledge and just got an email yesterday, June 6th, saying it's shipped. (Oddly, the message said package went out June 7th, but that is today...)

I sent Rich an inquiry and he said shipping has been slow, but Ook's hiring more staff next week to speed things up.

@Savil- That may not be true, either. I'm in the US and have a $26 package, and still don't have a confirmation e-mail. Maybe they're shipping them in the order they were pledged?

Ugh...a $94 pledger 300 packages a day, that'll be another two weeks before any hope of seeing it...

    17. Cameron Mount on June 7, 2012

Has anyone received their hit point pads yet? I got my other stuff weeks ago, with the IOU for the pads. I thought after this update that the hit point pads would be going out, but haven't received any shipping info or anything yet.

@ Rahul I'm in the same boat! I was being optimistic and hoping to get it in time for my husband's birthday in May XD. That was before I knew the sheer scale of this project. I eventually had to break down and tell him, so he didn't think I forgot his birthday. I can't wait to get it, though! Thanks for all of the hard work, Rich!

damn that was a famous one :P

    20. Savil on June 7, 2012

@KevinR -- Ookoodook is not exactly proceeding in order, because some people have received $55 (swag pack 2) packages. Looks like Ookoodook shipped bookless packages first ($25, $32, $55) and then started to send packages with books in order. Doesn't really matters though, since there are only 132 backers at $55 level.

    21. John Russell on June 7, 2012

I did $67 but with Sticky Shticks AND I'm overseas. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

    22. Aras Kubilay on June 7, 2012

$67? Take pity on a $222 pledge here, I hope I'll get it sometime before the end of the world (or just hope Mayans were wrong :P )

    23. Charles Boyd on June 7, 2012

Sigh, I did a $67 pledge so it looks like I've got a long wait....

      on June 6, 2012

@Lucy -- based on comments earlier today (like Greg's above your comment), it looks like Ookoodook is only up to the $35 pledges, and are proceeding in order. At their 300 per day rate, I'd expect them to have the $37 orders shipped by the end of the week.

Are they still shipping stuff out for the $37 dollar pledges? Because I got a survey but no shipping confirmation and I didn't get Sticky Shticks or autographed. And I live in the states so no international delays.

I just got my Swag Pack #1 (plus the Art Print) and I have to tell you IT'S AWESOME! The colouring book is a thing of brilliance, and the other goodies are just adorable. I never received an email saying it had shipped (I'm assuming it may have gotten eaten by the Internet or perhaps a Grue), so coming home after a very bad and stressful day to find my swag waiting for me was definitely a wonderful thing.

To back-up athynz, yes they do email you when your stuff is shipped out. I did the same thing for a bit, Garrit, but then realized, after I got my "Your package Shipped" email that it was all for naught :-P Anywho, I now have my package and it is AMAZING!! I got the $29 SOD package, everything looks amazing, and I haven't been able to stop reading (and re-reading) the SOD book. Rich, you are amazing and after reading SOD I realize just what an amazing writer you are (not that I didn't know it before, but reading SOD made it even more apparent). Thanks again Rich!!

@Max -- you can double-check what you said for your address by looking to the bottom of the $10 pledge box, where there should be a link "Your response".
More generally, you probably should send a message to Rich using the link at the top of the screen.

I'm really sorry to post this same question again, but I'm just not sure what to do. I purchased the $10 "option" to back this drive, but still have yet to receive my Roy Fridge Magnet. I might have done something wrong with the shipment information, or it might have just not been sent yet. If anyone had any advice on what I should do about this (if I even need to do anything other than remain patient), it would be greatly appreciated.
