The Penultimate Chart

We're only a few hours away from the finish now, and there's not a whole lot left to say that I didn't say when we broke the $1M line, or that I'm not saving to say when we end. So I'll get right to it.

We beat the line for me to add an extra comic to my OOTS streak later in the year, and we beat the line for four periodic monster miniature files. And we're past 2000% funded. I set them up and you knocked them down. I have two more lines; these are the last lines there will be. The first is obvious; $1,120,000 adds another comic to my consecutive run later. The other is the last Mystery Prize. Are you willing to leave it a mystery forever? Are you?

That's it for this update. Just a reminder that there will be another one shortly after we end at 12:03 EST, and then one more comic in my 8-mostly-in-a-row, and then you probably won't here from me for at least two days while I catch up on sleep and try to eat a decent meal. Then, the post-drive updates begin. I'll be keeping you posted on what stage all the dozens of moving parts in the fulfillment process are at, so there will be a lot more entries like this one to come, along with entirely new chart types.

Yes Rich we like you, we really like you!

Congratulations on the scope of the drive. Now good luck on doing all of the hard work. The comic means a lot to us readers, so your work is much loved.

Well, no magnet set for me but I am still pleased with everything I got: swag pack #2, signed DCF, and my new most prized possesion . . . my Stick it to You! Mcdonalds is happy since I finally ordered something so let me raise my shamrock shake in a toast: To everybody that made this happen but especially to Rich. Congratulations!!!

    4. Elomir on February 21, 2012

And we can now even blame KS and say: "We would have raised it in the last minute.."

    5. Joe Nelson on February 21, 2012

I really hope he doesn't die right now, then we wouldn't get any stuff =\

ok, so Double Fine is going to beat us in total funds raised but I can't believe we havent broken some absolute record about pledges/hour! Common guys, I know some of you've been noting down stats - can anyone tell me what the quickest rate of contribution is that we achieved?

@Lennart - you know... the only part about that (Rich running off w/ the money) that I'd really, *really* get annoyed with is not having more OOTS strips. Yes, I'd miss the swag. Yes, I'd miss the rewards that should have come w/ my pledges. But honestly, the web comic is what I really really want.

well, it'ss not fair. rich asked us to raise over 100k dollars in 10 hours, and we missed it by 5k. I understand he wanted to put some line that we couldn't break, but i think we deserve that extra mistery prize anyway.

NOOOO! I raised my pledge in the last minute, but we still didn't make it to the mystery prize #9!!! Only measly 6K short.... How shameful of us...

It was fun though. :) Epic campaign.

I have a feeling he will still do something for the almost-hit last mystery. There were lots of new pledges made during that time, many of them probably doing it specifically for the mystery prize, so if he doesn't do something, I would be willing to bet that at least some of them will contest the charges to their cards and get it dropped: legally they shouldn't be able to, but there are enough underhanded people out there that some of them are likely to get away with it anyway, though then they would get nothing. I haven't pledged again since we passed $1MIL, so I don't have to worry about it, and although I really want Rich to do something for the last line, he does have every right not to... unless we kidnap him, lock him in the basement, and force him to write constantly, providing a new strip every 8 to 12 hours nonstop every day of the year for over 700 per year! Someone get some handcuffs... never mind, can't do that to him after all he's given us here. :( Maybe he will take pity on us and make a clone of himself to enslave to do the work for him. That would be more feasible.

Haha, I wonder if it let me post my comment saying how amazing it was that we didn't break the site... before we broke it...

On the other hand, it seems we DID go into overtime (but still lost) as we gained 4 backers and several hundred dollars after there was 0 seconds to go.

    27. Nikolai Tuuri on February 21, 2012

@Martin Peterson - Comments page remains open indefinitely based upon other projects. Like those video glasses linked to early in this drive where commenters felt scammed (back then at least)

And I agree to some other comment I recently saw here or on the (currently broken) comments page - this has been a long way from "I'll pledge a few bucks for a couple of magnets" - for one thing I'm only getting a single magnet - but I'm around 1100% pledging myself. :p

Here's hoping Rich doesn't fudge and give us the mystery prize. It's like PC mortality: it adds something at stake in our accomplishments and loss when we fail. (Also, it might save him from having to figure out what it actually is.)

(Oh hell, give it to us, but later, when everything is done.)

    34. Kana on February 21, 2012
