Eye of the Pig, Baby. Eye of the Pig.
Well, you did it, and way ahead of the deadline, too. We passed the million dollar mark last night, Sunday February 19th, at around 5:45 pm EST (10:45 UTC). This makes us only the third Kickstarter project in history to reach a million dollars, and when we close at noon tomorrow, we will be the second to actually close at that amount (since Double Fine won't close for some time). In commemoration of this, the official Kickstarter Blog has posted an interview they did with me a few days ago.
Before I get on to the other business at hand, let me say this: It's all you. I make silly stick figures for a living, but you're the ones who care about them enough to make this happen. I couldn't have done it without your help—literally, of course, but also in more intangible ways. Nine years is a long time to draw stick figures, and I've had days where I just wanted to wrap the whole thing up early and move on to something else. But now that I know I have this kind of support out there, it will be that much easier to keep going during the hard times. So I'll keep working to make OOTS better and we'll keep this spirit going through the end of the pledge drive, through the rest of the year, and on into whatever the future holds. Thank you.
OK, enough mushy stuff. Business. Mystery Prize #8, you say? Well, you know how I'm doing an OOTS every day (if you don't count my one-day screw-up)? Because we reached a million frickin' dollars, I'm going to do it again. At some point this year, I'll give you all another week of seven OOTS strips in seven days (give or take another screw-up in the middle). I won't announce it until the first strip runs, but it will be sometime in 2012. What's more, I will add another day onto that run for every $100k we raise over a million (so we're almost at 8 comics right now).
Rather than another Mystery Prize, I'm going to announce this next one ahead of time. Previously, I had promised you a file with over 100 OOTS-style mini monsters to cut and fold for your D&D game (or to have little fights on your kitchen table). If we reach the $1.14M line on the chart, I'll quadruple your monsters. I'll send you FOUR such files, one every season until around this time next year. That's over 400 monsters, if math isn't your forte. Not coincidentally, that line also represents the amount needed for me to get an actual $1 million sent to me, after Kickstarter and Amazon take their fees (and allowing for as many as 5% of everyone's orders to get declined by their credit card companies for some reason, which I hope won't actually happen).
Now, to bring us to the subject of emails and special requests: The deadline for special requests has now passed, so if you haven't already messaged me about them, I'm going to have to politely decline. We have too many special cases already, and I haven't even gotten to all the emails that are backed up yet. You'll have to work out what you get from our standard reward packages, and if you can't get every book you want in one box, don't forget that half the point of this drive was to make sure that they'll be available on comic book store shelves for years to come (as well as on Ookoodook.com).
Also, if you've made a request already and I haven't gotten back to you, either I haven't gotten to it yet and will still be contacting you, or the answer to your question is, "Unfortunately, we can't do that for reason X or Y." I spent 14 hours answering emails yester-today, and at a certain point, I stopped sending emails to people if what they were asking was not feasible (often because they wanted to add more to a package than their shipping envelope would allow). My apologies for my crappy customer service in that regards, and I hope no one will be personally offended by it.
I feel like I had a dozen other things to say, but I can't remember any of them right now. So I'll just finish this update now and write another one at the end of the day. Thanks again for all this.
P.S. I had to take a few hours off from adding new reward packages, but I'm back to updating them every two hours or so now.
