Hey, International Customers!

Hey gang, this will be the only update this weekend (I'll be back Monday), but I really quickly wanted to go over something kind of important for international customers. If you're in the USA, you can probably skip down to the chart without missing much (though you can use the same process to increase your bid for other reasons, if you want).

I've been getting a lot of emails from overseas customers asking about when the international shipping charges will be added to their pledge, and I want to be as clear as I possibly can: You must add the international charges to your pledge total yourself, manually, BEFORE the end of the pledge drive. Neither Amazon nor Kickstarter will automatically do so at any point—not now, not at the end of the pledge drive. If you don't remember to add the extra charge, it will delay shipment of your rewards as we will need to contact you to send us additional postage through other channels, and we don't want to have to do that.

If you haven't done this already, you should go fix it right now, before you forget or anything. It's easy to do yourself, and you don't need to contact anyone; just follow these steps:

  • Click on the light blue button marked "Manage Your Pledge that is located in the right column of this page, above the rewards list but below our grand total. (You'll need to be logged in to see it.) It looks like this:
  • When you get to the screen with the green boxes, you will see a box with your current pledge amount in large green numbers. The box looks likes this:
  • Just select the green numbers and type new ones into the box. Increase your pledge by the amount needed to cover international shipping: $7 or $10 if your rewards fit in an envelope, $22 or $37 if they require a box. Each reward package description will tell you what the extra charge for that package is, too. So if you had selected the $25.00 reward package (the 8x10 art print), you would type in $35.00 to the box pictured above (because that reward package is listed as costing $10 extra for overseas shipping).
  • Don't change the radio buttons below the box unless you also want to change your chosen reward package.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of that page and click the blue "Continue" button. You will be brought to Amazon again and they will re-process your authorization. You will only be charge ONCE for this pledge drive, no matter how many times you change your pledge.

It's that simple. You can also change your pledge amount for any other reason, such as to add on an additional coloring book for $5. Just make sure to remember what extras you paid for, so that after the drive, when we survey you for your shipping address, you can let us know.

OK, so with that out of the way, here's today's chart:

See you all back here Monday, when I fully expect to be adding those board game packages. Have a nice weekend, everyone.

Rich is awesome, and deserves all of our hugs for all of the wonderful treasures we are getting. :3

International readers thank you for the aclaration, Giant. :)

Poor V. and Haley--all of that abuse for a CR 10 (at most) monster with no treasure (other than perhaps its carcass). Dragons are never easy XP.

    4. drow on February 13, 2012

@bitwisenot yeah, i want it to stay limited because i'm evil. totally evil. and i hate you. i can't help it, i'm just stat'd that way, its in the monster manual. so drop it already.

@Jay Elmore, ever worked on a large project? Things can easily get lost in the shuffle, and Rich looks like a busy man. I'm frankly amazed that he has over 4,000 copies still sitting around (hell, I'm amazed he still has over 1,000 copies still sitting around). I'm glad for him, and confused as to why he felt he had to limit the $68 pledge to only 300 people, but so long as he has got them, great!

@bitwisenot: You know that the people you are labeling as selfish and self-centered are the ones that helped get SSaDT printed at all by jumping in for a pre-order after Rich promised to make it a limited edition right? I wasn't aware of the need for pre-orders back when Rich was trying to print SSaDT printed so I'm indebted to those that bought it back then whatever their reasons, and so are you. If some of those people bought as an investment for when it goes out of print I can understand that. I'm not going to judge them anymore than I would judge someone who bought a stock at a lower price than me.

It may be that the reason Snips was promised to be a limited run, never reprinted, has to do with the fact that it contains content that appeared in a magazine and the owners of said magazine would only allow reprints on their terms. I doubt it has anything to do with selfishness or greed on the part of Snips buyers.

      @David: I don't see any problem with that :-)

    9. David on February 13, 2012

Also, applying the same logic, Rich should sign EVERYTHING. :P

    10. Peter S on February 13, 2012

@bitwisenot: since this seems to bother you so much, where were you a few years ago when Snips was first coming out. I am pretty sure that had you been willing to pony up $20K (or something like that) of your own money to Rich to back printing without restrictions that might have worked. You could take the risk of them eventually selling or not. That would be consistent with your altruristic rants about futures needs and rights of yet unknown people to have unrestricted access to Rich's creative works without concern about things like print runs being sold out. For whatever reason you continue to harp on this topic over and over, and all your protests about understanding views and not looking to change minds rings about as hollow as Thogs brain.

    11. David on February 13, 2012

@Jay; indeed. Let there be no h8rs. Or something.

    12. Jay Elmore on February 13, 2012

Could you please stop making assumptions about the motivations of Rich and the people who already own SSaDT? It's not going to be reprinted because Rich said he would not. Calling him closed-minded and the people who say that SSaDT should stay a limited printing "selfish" does not do you any credit.
You want it to stay in print; Rich has said that it will not. Life moves on. (And you can still buy a copy, today, from Ookoodook. And will probably still be able to do for some time.)

    13. Missing avatar

      bitwisenot on February 13, 2012

@David: I understand Rich's views (I just wish he didn't have to make the promise in the first place). I do not in any way understand or agree with the "people" whose views are to be completely selfish and childish. Apparently their ONLY reason for buying Snips is because they thought at some point they would be the only cool kid on their block with a copy. Or maybe they're waiting for it to be sold out so they can sell it on ebay for a bunch of profit.

If they bought it for the love of the art they should want to share it with anyone who can pay for a copy, not keep it to themselves.

And I've stated before (and I guess you keep forgetting) that the issue is that at some point it will be sold out, and people are going to be upset that they can't get it. At some point there will be more people who want it but can't get it than have it and don't want to let other people enjoy it.

But I guess life ain't fair, and there's no way to force people to not be selfish or greedy.

I'm not trying to change Rich's mind. I'm trying to shame the people who say they'll be "upset" if it's reprinted into being a bit less self-centered. That is all.

The good thing about this drive ending in 7 days is I'll never have to read their selfish views again (I don't have any desire to read the OOTS forums just because of those very people).

    14. Becky, Oracle of Valoria on February 13, 2012

@bitwisenot, Might as well rail against the fact that the sun is hot, as expect a lawful good person to break their word.

    15. David on February 13, 2012

Harsh much? And unnecessary; the Word of Rich hath spoken. I completely understand their views, and lets not forget, as stated; you can still GET a copy of Snips! Why is there *still* any concern over this??

    16. Missing avatar

      bitwisenot on February 13, 2012

I'm just sorry that Rich had to make such a horrible promise to get Snips printed in the first place. Even worse is the folks who pre-ordered at that time and are saying they would be "upset" if Snips got reprinted. They should be completely ashamed of themselves, as they are nothing but a bunch of selfish babies. [/rant]

Unsure if you have more ideas if milestones are met, but here is a thought: The My Family stickers that were done for christmas last year left me underwhelmed and disappointed. I understand that getting options together can be difficult when buying online, but the execution of the OotS My Family stickers wasnt what I was looking for.

A suggestion - an A4/Letter size sticker page with different options for My Family stickers. What I (and my wife) had envisioned for OotS My Family stickers is different options for the father (Ogre, Half dragon, hobogoblin warrior, lizardfolk warrior, goblin cleric, lich sorcerer, etc), mother (sexy drow cleric, succubus, goblin warrior, etc), children (goblin children, kobold, etc) and pets (displacer beasts, flumph, demonic cockroaches, etc).
That way people can choose what they would like for the Family options for their car, etc. Completely different to options you see now.

Love the kickstarter idea and will be looking forward to receiving my Don't Split the Party book to complete the collection and in better condition than Amazon got for me.

I have to agree, the art is so good for a stick figure comic. I do not regret stumbling upon the site many years ago, All I can say is that this comic has hooked me like no other and I'm glad that we can all actually help out for once.

    20. Jared Seiders on February 13, 2012

Rich has said in a prior post here, that sitting on a large pile of money isn't going to cause him to go back on his word. He has thoroughly explained that he has no intentions on EVER reprinting Snips. It has nothing to do with funding and everything to do with Rich honoring his word. I guess it's hard this day in age to understand what standing up for your principles means, but I am very glad that Rich would rather honor his word than make a quick buck. I am saddened that this means that future readers won't have the opportunity to own the book, but that doesn't mean that a Second Edition can't be printed, or a new book with new material PLUS the old material can't be printed as well.
Bottom line is, stop questioning Rich's judgement. If he doesn't want to go back on his word and print a new line of Snips, then let it be. No amount of demanding is going to change his mind, obviously.

    24. Jay Elmore on February 13, 2012

I'm kinda surprised at commenters who seem to persist in thinking that Rich doesn't have his act together well enough to know how many copies of Snips, Snails and Dragon Tails he has or will need in order to meet the pledge drive obligations.
I'm pretty sure that if the pledge drive were even close to running him out of copies, he would have had Ookoodook pull them out of the store (just checked—they're still there) or would have put some kind of warning up on the KS page.

For anyone who is worried about running out of SS&DT, the thing that most sets my mind at ease is that it's still available for purchase at Ookoodook. Rich said a while back that if the amount in stock got too low, he'd pull it from the website and save the remaining copies for future pledge drives/special occasions-- and I imagine it would be even more urgent to pull it if this pledge drive had exhausted the stock entirely. The fact that nothing on the website has changed means, to my mind, that they're not worried about running out.
Conjecture, yeah, but I find it reassuring nonetheless.

      Dear Rich,
you do realize that if you add the card game as an opt-in to the pledge rewards, you will a) have to re-print the game b) be inundated in further money. (hint, hint)

    35. Eric on February 13, 2012

Jeebus! I hadn't counted some of those, I hope at some point Rich shows the massive pile of literature he's shipping out to the world but it will probably never all be in the same place at the same time. I have happy memories of images of Howard Taylor surrounded by pallets of his Schlock Mercenary books crammed into his garage. Good times.

      Adrian on February 13, 2012

@Eric, Yeah, I believe Rich will have no choice but to reprint SSaDT at this point. With a quick perusal of the number of backers for the various rewards, there are roughly 1600 pledges for offers that definitely include SSaDT. Further, there are another approximately 2500 pledges for offers that have the option of receiving a copy of SSaDT. So potentially 4000+ copies could end up being required to fill these orders. Anyone know off-hand how many were in the original print run?

@starfyre: If you mean, "Why is that group called the 'print only special'?", it's because those are all the books that were never published online, only in print. The books you get in that group are exactly the same as they would be if you got them anywhere else. They have always been "print only".

    39. Eric on February 13, 2012

@Greg Don't forget the over 947 (at the moment) whole story pledges, that brings the total closer to 2,000 copies.

    40. Eric on February 13, 2012

I'm still of the opinion that when Rich said "Never gonna reprint this." it was more of a "there's no way I'll ever have enough spare money to reprint this book" rather than a "as a matter of honor never again shall this book be put to print, so do I swear by the blood of my ancestors." Every couple days during this drive someone has said how they would feel cheated and betrayed if Rich would dare to have more SSaDTs printed up. I don't get it. Oh well. Maybe he does have enough to meet the orders from the pledge drive but if he needs to print more, good for him and good for the fans. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

    41. starfyre76 on February 13, 2012

*checks Ookadook* hmm....apparently those were black and white to begin with. What is the difference in print only then?

    42. starfyre76 on February 13, 2012

Print only I'm thinking is coloring book style, aka black and white. Could be mistaken, though.

      Porthos on February 13, 2012

@ Jeff: Yes. I don't want to go trawling through the all of the updates/comments but Rich has said somewhere that the free stuff you get is dependent on the TOTAL amount you pledge. So if you have $37 of postage, it counts to the overall total for free stuff you get.

    44. Greg Dougherty on February 13, 2012

I must admit, I'm curious. Does Rich really have 1000+ copies of Snips, Snails and Dragon Tails left? Because in addition to the 300 or us in the $68 order that gets SSaDT, there's another 732 (at this moment) for the "Print Only Special", which also claims to include SSaDT. Given that it's a "limited edition, never to be reprinted", I'm kind of surprised to see it in an "unlimited order" Pledge.

    45. Missing avatar

Jeff Thomson on February 13, 2012

Does adding the postage cost to a pledge increase the free stuff you get?
For example, if I bid $222 to get all 7 books I'd get all of the extras other than the art print. Adding $37 for postage means I'm pledging $259 total- which puts me above the level to get a bonus art print (going by the Update #16 table). Would I get the art print in that case, or must the pledge be $250 or above + shipping cost?

    46. FULONGAMER aka Johannes Bowers on February 13, 2012

Hey, when we hit 750,000 before the end of the drive, you should totally hit up someone (like maybe Reaperminis) to generate a Set of totally badass OOTS inspired minis, or even two sets (OOTS and Linear Guild). I will put them into play right alongside my KODT and Black Hands minis.

    47. Eric on February 12, 2012

Woot! More schticks! Probably some bonus monsters, maybe extra loot! Can't wait to see it, just tell me how much higher to raise my pledge.

    48. James Auwaerter on February 12, 2012

I know I'll be getting the mini-expansion, and I bet we'll have some bumps in pledging once that's out.
