fyi in case you are interested in getting some miniatures terrain
Since another wave of Stick it's seems to be going out, I just wanted to make a plug for the reward collection at the forum ( http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php… ). We already have one new-art family portrait, but I would love to see more (and hopefully see even more Crayon Drawings).
Woke up this morning to find my Stick It to My Family portrait in my inbox. Based on new photographs I sent in right after the last updated. It's so fantastic I almost cried. Well worth the wait.
Wow. Just wow.
The Therkla story TOTALLY delivered and then some.
I LOVE the short story!!!!!
OK...the update certainly quite welcome. Thanks Rich!
Ahaha. The first password is incorrect. Update 62 has the right one.
You're not the only one having problems. I'm going to try redownloading.
After searching I found a copy on an old thumb drive, yay! I still don't get why the zip password wouldn't work though...
Just saw the new update and downloaded it, and while looking at my downloads I wanted to read Haleo and Julian again but all I have is the zip and the password won't work even though I'm copy/pasting it right from Update #61 For backers only. 8'(
I still believe it will all get done. And I'll be happy for it. And while I wait, I'll forget about it and have fun with other things. Yeah, it's taking longer than expected. But I still 100% believe everything will be done eventually. In the meantime, I'll get distracted by all the other cool stuff out there.
Mary & Crat,
Yeah, I have to agree. Supporting at the level I did was tough, but I loved the comic, and believed in the Kickstarter mission (and still do), but I'm feeling very disheartened. It seems like some rewards are being send out in dribs and drabs (see Jeremy on Jan 6), so I guess I'm still holding out hope, but it is fading.
The sad thing is that unlike other projects, we know the books are out there, as well as the other items, and all that is holding them up is apparently the artwork we pledged for. But I don't get any replies from my very considerate and patient emails to Rich. So, what are we supposed to think? Honestly, send us the books and other stuff, and /then/ send us the artwork separately when you get them drawn. Or refund the money we pledged for the art: I'd be extremely disappointed, but that would certainly be a better feeling that I've been ripped off.
vericrat - I agree with everything you said. I also wish I would get the stuff from the pledge level. I have a sad empty spot waiting for it in my office. :( More frequent less pretty updates would be nice. Even if it was a hey I am working.
I'm very close to giving up.
Rich Burlew updated this Kickstarter on August 5th, 2014. That was more than six months ago. We are still getting new Order of the Stick comics so he hasn't died or lapsed into a coma or anything. But the Kickstarter...
I'm going to start by examining the sentiment, then go on to examine the output.
Rich said to us, in update 26, “So I'll keep working to make OOTS better and we'll keep this spirit going through the end of the pledge drive, through the rest of the year, and on into whatever the future holds. Thank you.” I believed him. I honestly thought we were going to see something resembling a schedule out of him after that, because that's my only complaint with OOTS. I certainly haven't seen any significant increase in quality; it's top-notch, but it always has been.
Rich said to us, “It will take some time, I'm not going to lie to you. I will do my best to keep everyone updated on every step of the process.” Really Rich? Can't post an update in 6 months, that's doing your best to keep everyone updated on every step in the process? But maybe I should cut him some slack. I mean, I would prefer once a week or so, but nobody every promised us that. “As things proceed, I'm going to keep sending out Updates (one or two a week) as a way of giving you information about what I've done so far, what still needs to be done, and how close you are to getting shiny OOTS goodies in your mailbox.” (Rich Burlew, Update 29). Okay well that wasn't technically a promise.
So what exactly am I complaining about?
I'm just going to talk about the comics promised for this Kickstarter, because that's the part that concerns me the most. I recognize there was other work he promised, but the comics are just one example. He promised 8 PDF's, plus 9 extra comics added to the regular strip. The PDF's so far have been a dozen or so pages. So 8 times 12 plus nine is 105. That's how many extra comics he promised. It has now been 1091 days since the Kickstarter ended. Given his typical posting schedule on the main site (once every two-three weeks; it's hard to keep track and he won't allow anyone to talk about it in the forums so I don't know of any way to get a good number). I'll say once every two weeks. That would mean he was going to write about 156 comics in that space.
Then we had the hand injury. I felt, like most everyone else, that Rich should be cut some slack; the poor guy had been in a car accident. I hoped for his welfare and didn't expect anything from the comic or the kickstarter for awhile. I'll cut him one year's worth of slack and pretend like he had 365 fewer days to work with. That means he's had 726 effective days since the kickstarter ended.
Divide the number of effective days by the number of comics that he had pledged to do (without slowing down the main story), and you see that he would have to write a comic every 2-3 days (2.78ish). Something he was clearly capable of doing when he was on a schedule many, many, many years ago. Something many webcomic authors whose fanbases do not pledge a million and a quarter dollars do.
I'll give you one last Rich Burlew quote. “Screw that. This is between me and all of you. This is because you guys love the story I'm writing, and I love writing it. We made this thing together, and no one is going to replicate it, not exactly. Oh, sure, these records won't stand forever. Some won't even last a month. But it doesn't matter, because you didn't pledge money to me so I could beat a meaningless record. You pledged your money to me because you believe in me and my silly stick figure comic.”
I honestly did, Rich. I believed in you and your stick figure comic, and that's why I pledged.
Rich... Rich, I think it's time for your "get out of a slump" update.
Any update on this?
Just stopping by to see if there was anything new in the work-o-meter for this project (since it has been about 6 months since the last update). Hope all is going well Rich.
Boop, never mind, they're all in the Updates section here.
Can someone give me a subject line/few key words to search my email for for the two monster minis PDFs that got sent out? I can't seem to find a link anywhere.
Funny but I had the same question as Mr Steeves
Not meant as a complaint or sarcasm - just simply curious how things are.
Any chance there's a pending 6 month update ?
Could be old news, but did anyone notice we made it into the Guinness Book of World Records? http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/2015/preview/files/assets/basic-html/page16.html
In other exciting news, I have just received a patience package that included an address change! It's full of everything I expected, and am looking forward to a snowday tomorrow to read all of it!
In more *breaking* news: to my knowledge the first Crayon Drawing has arrived. Featuring Miko and the Oracle, you can see it its complete glory at the Kickstarter Reward Collection I maintain at the GiantITP forum. I hope others will be added in the near future. Here is a "convenient" link directly to it: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php…
(And once again: If you have something to share that isn't listed in the OP, please say so. I will happily add anything. From some peoples I actually found/seen Stick its, but couldn't get in touch with them, whether they are fine with showing it there :/)
Just under 3 hrs left to support what is my icon to the left!
I don't think you've missed anything, Jason.
These are the things I show missing from the KS goals. Can someone let me know if any of these have been released and I just missed them?

I would appreciate an update.
Christopher Moss, I don't think there is any point in asking. For one thing custom art will come directly from Rich's house, whereas books and calendars will come from ookoodook or a warehouse. For another thing, did you want to delay your calendar and book if your art isnt ready by the time calendars are ready to ship? For a third thing, the more messages are in Rich's kickstarter inbox the longer it will take him to check for change of address messages before he sends out kickstarter rewards (so more messages might delay some kickstarter rewards going out).
Yeah, I know that he has been super busy with the calendar and the new book. I would like to find out if I pre-order it if it can show up with the rest of my Kickstarter order. Probably not, but still does not hurt to ask. I would wait for it if I can get is signed too!
@Christopher Moss: The good news is that since the book and calendar sound like they are just about done, he'll probably have more free time soon.
So it looks like he is in another one of the SPIRALS OF DOOM DOOm DOom Doom doom. :-( I really would like to get my reward sooner or later.
NOOTS #966 (and did Rich mention there is a new book coming soon?)
Shipping Book 5 and 2015 Calendar to Australia is about $20 cheaper with "Intl Preorder Fulfillment 1" compared to regular shipping ("First Class Mail International"). Sounds like a good discount to me!
PS: I didn't see preorder shipping until I messed around with my cart a bit (removing and re-adding items).
I wonder if there could be a discount coupon for Kickstarter backers to apply to the purchase of the new book/calendar?
Yeah, new book/calendar is really an awesome announcement! can't wait to get them :D
Thanks! My photoshop skills aren't that advanced, but I think I can do some nice basic stuff if I really want to :-) [It probably would have been even easier if I had Adobe Illustrator and could just modify the original file instead of fudging around with the .png]
I like the round version, Christian!
Meanwhile... NOOTS, *and* a book pre-order, *and* a calendar pre-order. Aw, yeah...
I still prefer the original "squarish" version for my stick it to me, but at least with the circular version I edit myself it looks good again :)
Well, good news... yesterday, I got an e-mail back from Rich about my address change (that I sent in... early April? I think). So he hasn't forsaken us, he's just really slow, as expected ;-) I moved last month, but luckily had the foresight to give him my mother's address, which has stayed the same.
I am also one of those that did not get their patience package due to an address change. Le Sigh.
@Aisha Yes, a KS message is the best way to contact him for KS-related stuff. He's usually backlogged so take that into account. You will get an email from KS when your package ships, which contains the USPS tracking number (at least that's what I got). If you haven't gotten an email, it hasn't shipped yet. I believe Sarah Vee is in the exact same situation as you are...
Is Kickstarter messaging the best way to contact Rich? The workometer suggests my patience package has gone out, but he never responded to my change of address and I don't want it to get lost in the mail :(
circles are in. I guess. https://www.youtube.com/watch…
Why on earth did Kickstarter the way avatars are displayed in the comments section? O_o
Now the totally awesome "Stick it to Me"s look somewhat weird with the round border thing.....
