The Shadow Watchers comic is a blend of Pulp Horror and Science Fiction. The main characters, who are more Pulp Heroes than “Super”, are thrown together to fight an ancient evil. The story begins in the year 1952. This time period creates powerful conflicts and great adversity for our heroes just by virtue of their gender and ethnicity in a far more repressive era than today.
The goal, advertise the book and get the first issue, issue #1, printed and shipped out the door. It is a 24 page full color comic book. The first issue is complete; it has been penciled, inked, lettered and colored. In fact the first story arc, ending at issue six, has been fully plotted. All that remains, and the reason for this project, is to get the book printed and out there so that I can continue to the next issue, and hopefully the next, and the next, and so on.
I am shooting for June 2017 for the first issue to hit store shelves. Any money raised beyond the goal amount will be used for additional advertising and promotions and to cover higher than expected print orders. Extra funding will also allow for faster turn times on subsequent issues since I will be able to focus exclusively on “The Shadow Watchers”.
At the $3,000 mark all #2 Reward Levels and higher will each receive a signed and numbered Print Pack. The Print Pack will consist of 7 - 8½” x 11” color prints. The first print in the set will be the cover illustration. The remaining 6 will be illustrations of the individual members of “The Shadow Watchers”. I will post images of each print as they are completed. The Print Packs will ship with the rest of the rewards in July.
Risks and challenges
Even though the “The Shadow Watchers” comic is complete and ready for printing, before it can be distributed it has to go through an acceptance process with the distributors. This process usually entails a review of the book to determine if it meets a standard level of quality and to see what steps the publisher is taking to promote their book.
I feel confident that we surpass the quality standards set and this project’s success will not only allow me to advertise and promote “The Shadow Watchers” it will also help convince the distributors that we are putting the comic out there and that our methods are generating interest and name recognition.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
