We’re in the final week of the campaign and we’re ramping up to put Pebble Time on your wrist as quickly as we can!

With Pebble Time backers in 161 countries, shipping fees, duties and shipping time can vary widely. To give you a heads up on what to expect when Pebble Time starts shipping in May, this update covers:

  • What to expect post campaign
  • Shipping options
  • Duties and taxes

We’ve also included a Q&A down the bottom that answers some of the key questions that have arisen throughout the campaign.

What to expect post campaign

In the weeks following the campaign close on March 27th, your pledge will be processed and you will receive an email invitation to our pledge management portal to finalize your pledge.

The pledge management portal will allow you to:

  • make your color selection
  • enter your shipping address
  • select your shipping speed

When your reward ships, you will receive an email from us and shipment tracking information will be updated on the portal.

Shipping Options + Duties and Taxes

All pledges include worldwide standard shipping. We will also be offering an expedited shipping option for most backers outside of the United States when you finalize your order in the pledge management portal.

In addition to shipping fees, you will be responsible for the tax obligation in your respective jurisdiction. Duties and taxes differ wildly from country to country, state to state, province to province, however we have worked hard to provide you with a choice in how to handle them.

Full details for your region (US, EU or international) are provided below.

For backers in the United States

Shipping is already included in your total pledge amount and will be provided by the US Postal Service.

Please expect delivery within 3 to 5 business days from the date of shipment.

Pebble is obligated to collect state sales tax for orders shipped to California, Illinois, and New York. For backers shipping to those states, our pledge management portal will calculate sales tax and allow you to pay with any major credit card.

For backers in the European Union

Backers in the European Union will be given the choice of standard or expedited shipping when finalizing their pledge via our pledge management portal.

Standard Shipping is included as part of the total pledge amount. Shipments will be sent from our distribution facility in Hong Kong and then shipped via Singapore Post to your country's postal system for final delivery.

Please expect 4 to 6 weeks for delivery from the date of shipment.

For the Standard Shipping option, shipments will be made without any prepayment of duties, VAT, taxes, GST and/ or HST. This means there will be nothing additional to pay at the time you finalize your order, however you will be responsible for taxes, duties and customs fees levied by the customs office in your country. This will likely mean your shipment will be held by customs until duties and taxes are paid.

Expedited Shipping is available for additional cost. The cost of expedited shipping will vary by country and will be payable via major credit card on our pledge management portal.

Please expect 3 to 5 business days for delivery from the date of shipment.

For the Expedited Shipping option, shipments will be made with prepayment of all duties, taxes, GST and/or HST. Total taxes and duties will be calculated by our pledge management portal and you will be able to prepay all duties and taxes with any major credit card. This will ensure your Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel shipment will arrive unhindered at your door.

For all other international backers (including Canada and Australia)

Most international backers will be given a choice of a standard or expedited shipping when finalizing their pledge via our pledge management portal.

Standard Shipping is included as part of the total pledge amount. Shipments will be sent from our distribution facility in Hong Kong and then shipped via Singapore Post to your country's postal system for final delivery.

Please expect 4 to 6 weeks for delivery from the date of shipment.

For the Standard Shipping option, shipments will be made without any prepayment of duties, VAT, taxes, GST and/or HST.

Expedited shipments to Australia will be handled by Star Track, expedited shipment to Canada will be handled by Canada Post, all other international shipments will be handled by DHL.

A note for backers in Hong Kong

All shipments to Hong Kong will be handled by SF Express at no additional cost and an expected delivery time of 3 to 5 business days from the date of shipment.

*available for most international destinations

Campaign Q&A

Below are a summary of key questions and answers that have been asked during the campaign. Some may have been answered elsewhere or can be found in the FAQ, but we wanted to provide them again just in case they were missed.

Q: I backed both a Pebble Time and a Pebble Time Steel, will they ship separately?

A: Yes. For those that backed both the combo tier, we will ship each watch independently. The Pebble Time will ship first, according to your original backing order, and your Pebble Time Steel will ship in July.

Q: What are the specs for the watch and how do the two watches differ?

A: We’ve published information about the watches including a detailed breakdown of the sizes and specs here: https://getpebble.com/pebble_time

Q: Can I select which band will ship with my watch?

A: All watches will ship with a coordinating color band. Pebble Time will include one silicone and Pebble Time Steel will include one leather and one steel band. We’re not able to mix and match bands and watches.

Q: Will all watch bands work with all Pebble Time watches?

A: Yes! Any standard 22mm watch band will fit both Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel, including all the new bands that we are making for Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel.

Q: Are smartstraps water resistant?

A: No. Smartstraps require a connection to be made between the smartstrap and the watch that is not water resistant.

(Netherlands) Today my pledge is offered at my door, but I had to pay an extra $65! Handling costs from Singapore. I already paid $250 (steel) and $15 (shipping & handling). I refused and now I can pick it up at a local distribution point when I pay this $65.
In the Kickstarter project there were no extra costs for shipping to Europe. What should I do? Can I get a refund for my back up? I love Pebble, but is it worth $330?
Note: In 2013 I ordered my first Pebble. It was shipped from Singapore and no extra costs were charged.

I'm from france and distribution from Hong Kong is not what you promised. It means price Increase by 21% (VAT).
Where is the promised Irish company, which should provide the distribution for EU?

      look from spain ...again
      $169
      +
      21% Tax/VAT = $35.49
      +
      $8 expedited
      =
      $212.49 = 195.14 EUR (today's exchange rate)
So, what's the advantage of being an Earlier Bird if is going to be almost the same as the retail price? If you're not an Early Bird it will cost you more than the retail price...

I am wanting a refund (and sent an email). The campaign said at the beginning that EU orders were going to be shipped from the EU (I even sent an email asking this - although the response wasn't clear then, but I went ahead knowing the campaign said the EU).

The problem is now if it isn't refund on the original transaction I could still lose money due to the exchange rates. Very unfair to be lumbered with extra charges as the terms which I originally accepted was a distributor from the EU. It will be cheaper to wait until I can buy via retail from within the EU. I hope that I have still have my consumer rights under the consumer credit act and sale of good act.

actually i find it very funny how come u have standard shipping in hk and ex shipping in ireland.
tax is paid for in ex shipping.
so now i have an option of
      a) pay nothing and get the watch in 4 to 6 weeks time and pay $11 tax later
      b) pay 31$ more and get watch in few days time. ($11 tax included)
means if i pay additional $20 thats as good as not doing early bid, if i don pay $20 i may get my watch later than retail, so wats the point of early bid lol

    7. Madis Spiegel on

I'm also interested in a refund, basically the wording change during the campaign changed a lot. If there had been nothing about Dutec in Ireland in the terms of service, I probably wouldn't have thought much more before pledging. Even if VAT was somewhat expected, now I need to pay extra for import duties and postal office for handling the customs stuff.

Very EU unfriendly project, and with confusing changes during the campaign.

      @Ethan
The main problem: in the campaign was promised, that the distribution for EU backers will be inside the EU ( from Ireland ). Yes, EU distribution of PT means $179 + EU VAT. It's OK. But with this update ( I noticed it when my pledge was already deducted from my credit card ) it changed to Hong Kong. VAT in Ireland is much lower than in my country, and in distribution inside the EU no additional taxes, duty fees and expedited shipment cost for EU customers! ( and what is the ridiculous 4-6 weeks shipment time in 2015 ??? ) At the end, my pledged PT and PTS will be much more expensive for me now, than for the normal customers later in retail period. Pledge the project, and pay more than normal retail customer ?
A lot of backers from EU asked a question:
If you won't change the EU shipping to be more friendly and the expedited shipping, tax and vat is to much for me can I cancel and get a full refund ?
No any reaction or answer form creators for days...

That's why I'am disappointed after a $420 pledge ( the end sum will be much higher than $420 ) :(

    9. Koblih on

      @Ethan
The problem is not that my country has import fees, problem is that in the campaign was advertised, that the distribution in the EU will be inside the EU (no VAT). With this update, it changed to Honkong. It changes the final price for me. When someone tells me that something will cost $159 and at the end i see that it is not $159 but $192, so no wonder that I am disappointed.

    10. Ethan Allen on

For those of you complaining to Pebble about the VAT and tax, you need to STOP. It's your own country's fault that you have such high import taxes, not Pebbles. I live in the USA.... you know how much it costs me to import goods from other countries? ZERO DOLLARS.

If you have a problem with VAT and taxes, complain to your country's leadership.

When can I choose the color I would like to have for my pebble time? When can I see the additive costs? 4-6 weeks by standard mail, when I ordered the watch, I did not find this information. So I have to pay extra to get it quicker. Same for taxes. Hoch much will it be at the end? Can I cancel my pledge if it is too high?

      @Creator

Ok. So I have confirmed I got slugged 10% GST (Australian pledger) when my pledge was deducted earlier today from my credit card.

What does that mean for the expedited shipping option? The way it was written here earlier by the @Creator, GST was to be charged for the expedited post option only, and 'if' customs wanted to charge it on delivery for the standard option then I would have (given customs would have listed it as exempt).

I am not paying another 10% GST on the value of the watch cause that has been payed for already, so asking for it twice is a no-go...and what does this mean for those who would now chose standard shipping? Are Pebble going to put a customs declaration somehow saying we already payed the 10% GST when we we had our pledges deducted?!

    24. Jocie on

I'm really disappointed to hear that you're no longer shipping from within the EU, with the extra taxes we now have to pay the cost of backing your project going to be £26, possibly £30 more than compared to the originally published plans. $20 million and you sting us, your backers & fans, with a new fee. Thanks.

Re-read the Update and the reddit thread.
For the first Pebble, you probably got lucky (depending on where you live).
Other people had issues with their Pebbles being held for weeks in customs and having then to pay extra duties/taxes/fees. That's why they are also proposing Expedited Shipping this time.
Of course you can try your luck again and choose Standard Shipping like last time...
(My calculations for France make total cost with Expedited Shipping around 195€, while Standard Shipping could be anywhere from 155€ to 215€, slower, and more risky.)

I can't figure out how to pay for expedited shipping, nor how much it's going to cost with/without. I'm disappointed. For the first Pebble, all I had to do way pay + wait. Nothing to figure out, no extra cost. And, mostly, nowhere near as expensive as other smartwatches.

In paying California taxes, do you I base tax 6.5% + mandatory 1% state local addition for 7.5% or do I pay where I live 8.75%. It makes a $2 at this time, but tax is going up April 15th to 9%. I'm in the 2nd tier of backers, so won't get my Pebble til June :P

@Creator how much is expedited shipping to Chile for PT??

    35. Inblue on

@creator thanks for the calculation below calculations are for one PTS right?

@inblue - Mainland China is rough. They charge both taxes and duties! $8.61 shipping + $33.51 tax + $45.43 duty. So about $87 additional. -- its ironic its so high for something that is made there. Totally understand if that is too much of a shock.

    36. Kenneth Jaffe on

Wondering if I live in one of the 3 states that will levy taxes on the PTS, if it's worth it to ship to a relative out of state and have them re-ship it to me. At 7.5% it will be approx $18.25 savings, then thr hassle of a relative getting it to the post office, paying them back for a $5 shipment and getting their resentment in return. Sounds like too much of a pain. Just thinking this through out loud so no one else has to consider this option.

I bought 2 PT's ($358) + shipping of $15 to Brazil. Doing all the math using our tax it will be:
      Kickstarter - $358 + $15 = $373
      Import fee - $373 + 60% = $597
      ICMS (our VAT) - $597 + 20% = $716
      Administrative tax - $716 + $20 (normally is around that) = $736
Credit card IOF - $736 + 6% (if I choose to pay all using CC in the expedited shipping) = $780

$780 for 2 PT's!!! In our currency it's about R$2496! R$1248 for each! The Moto 360 is about R$750 in here.
