Do Not Disturb + More Notification Controls

Happy holidays! We’ve been working hard (like elves in a workshop) to improve the Pebble experience and platform. Today, we’re happy to announce the release of PebbleOS v1.14, which addresses a number of features that you have been asking for. To get these new features on your Pebble, open the Pebble iOS or Android app to begin the process. (Visit here for extra help updating your firmware.) If you haven't already, you can visit our blog and sign up for our newsletter in the upper right corner.

What’s New

Do Not Disturb - Block notifications for a set period of time. On your Pebble this new setting can be found under: Settings » Notifications » Do Not Disturb.

Alarms Update - Create multiple alarms, toggle them on/off, and edit existing alarms. We’ve also added a new “Snooze Alarm”, customizable via the Pebble Alarms app.

Improved Notification Control - Get more control over what notifications are displayed (All Notifications, Phone Calls Only, or No Notifications). We’ve also moved Notification settings for faster access through a dedicated menu: Settings » Notifications.

Improved iOS performance - Notifications are now sent more quickly from your iOS device to your Pebble. In addition, after exiting Airplane Mode, Pebble will now search for connectable iOS devices immediately, instead of waiting one minute.

This release also provides the following bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where Pebble may enter “Recovery Mode” immediately after updating to 1.13 firmware.
  • Fixed issue affecting some iOS Pebblers who experienced dropped Bluetooth connections a few seconds after connecting.
  • Fixed an issue where Caller ID data would not display on Pebble after receiving a missed call.
  • Improved reliability of Bluetooth data transfers, particularly during a firmware update.
  • Fixed an issue where Pebble would sometimes continue to vibrate after dismissing or answering a phone call.

Lastly, we recently released Beta 3 of Pebble SDK 2.0, this includes bug fixes, stability improvements, and new features. You can find out more on the Pebble developer blog.

We hope you enjoy these new features. Thanks as always and Pebble on!

iOS 7 Notifications Update Now Available + Caller ID

We're happy to report the iOS 7 notification we announced last week has been approved by Apple. The latest Pebble app for iOS v 1.3 is now available for download in the iTunes Store!

Once you download the Pebble App for iOS, you will be prompted to upgrade Pebble to firmware version 1.13 automatically. If this doesn't happen for some reason, just hard close the Pebble App for iOS and then reopen it.

As you probably know, this update seamlessly integrates Pebble with the Notification Center in iOS 7 and allows you to receive notifications from apps like Calendar, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Flickr, Dropbox, WhatsApp, Flipboard and more.

See how iOS 7 notifications work:

This update also improves Caller ID! iOS users no longer need to manage access to their address book in order to see Caller ID on their Pebble. We fixed some other Caller ID bugs, too, included in the list below.

New features and bug fixes:
For iOS 7 users with iPhone 4S and greater:

  • Notifications are now sent over Bluetooth LE using Apple's Notification Center. Set up instructions for each notifying app may vary. Find info on how to enable your favorite apps in our Support Center.
  • Bluetooth LE setup is performed from within the Pebble app, by selecting "Enable Notifications".
  • Email set up is no longer required or supported within the Pebble iOS App as notifications are now supported from other email apps.

For all iOS users:

  • Caller ID now works without having to manage your address book.
  • Fixed issue where Pebble continued vibrating after receiving a call.
  • Pressing the back button when receiving a phone call now dismisses the phone call screen without hanging up the call, rather than declining the call.
  • Pebble can now show 80+ unread notifications.
  • Fixed crashing bugs on the iOS app, improving overall stability.
  • Fixed issue where settings were sometimes lost when Pebble was rebooted.

We hope you enjoy the new iOS notifications. Thanks and Pebble-on!

Update #45

iOS 7 Notifications + Pebble SDK 2.0 + Thanks!

When we first envisioned Pebble, our goal was to deliver a truly useful smartwatch you could easily customize with apps, watchfaces and notifications. Pebble is designed to be an open platform to enable creative, incredible app development and a way to easily receive notifications and information to your wrist.

Since we began shipping Pebble earlier this year,  the Pebble community has responded with thousands of awesome apps, watchfaces and customizations. Today,  we are excited to share two major software announcements that vastly improve the Pebble experience and platform.

iOS 7 Notifications

We are pleased to announce Pebble is now fully integrated with iOS 7 and works seamlessly with Notification Center. This means that any notifications you've enabled in Notification Center on your iOS 7 device will appear on your Pebble -- just like that. It's easier than ever to pick and choose which updates you want to see on your wrist. This includes notifications beyond calls, texts and emails, such as Calendar, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Flickr, Dropbox, WhatsApp, Flipboard and more.

A new Pebble app for iOS will enable this functionality. Expect an update in the App Store early next week. We'll post an update as soon as it's out!

Introducing Pebble SDK 2.0

Today we're launching Pebble SDK 2.0 into beta, which makes it even easier for developers to build awesome Pebble apps. SDK 2.0 opens up an entire universe of new apps thanks to 4 new APIs:

  • PebbleKit Javascript
  • Accelerometer
  • Data Logging
  • Persistent Storage

These new APIs allow developers to make Pebble apps that interface directly with the web (real-time weather, transit info, location check-in), access to the accelerometer (health/fitness monitoring and gesture-based remote control), log data when disconnected from the phone (health/fitness tracking), and store info on the watch (high scores, time zones, preferences).

Find out more about SDK 2.0 on the Pebble developer blog. The updated SDK beta is available for download at developer.getpebble.com. Later this year, we will be pushing this update out as an over-the-air update to all Pebble users.

Partner apps

We're also proud to announce several new partnerships that illustrate the capabilities of Pebble SDK 2.0. These apps will be available for download later this year.

Thanks!

It was your shared excitement for Pebble that made it a reality and we remain grateful for your support as we start bringing wearable tech to a broader audience. The ranks of Pebblers are growing by the day, the app ecosystem is expanding and the Pebble community continues to amaze and delight with clever uses for Pebble.

Going forward, we'll also be sharing news and updates from our new blog at blog.getpebble.com. We hope you'll stay tuned in!

Thanks as always and keep on Pebbling!

Hello Pebblers!

Apologies for the radio silence the last couple months. We know it has been a long time since we shared an update, but we've had our heads down focusing on some exciting developments and big news is brewing.

This Wednesday, November 6th, we'll be sharing the details. You're invited to join our (hopefully less blue) livestream at 10am PST to hear the news first hand. Just visit www.getpebble.com Wednesday after 9am PST for a link to the event. If you're currently developing for Pebble, or interested in creating apps for Pebble, then you should definitely tune in!

We'll also post the news for those who can't join and a recording of the livestream will be available immediately following the event. Eric and Pebble's developer support team will also be available to take questions on a Reddit AMA on Wednesday at Noon PST.

Most of you have Pebbles on wrists by now, but our records show that 460 of our 68,929 backers are still waiting. If you are one of those 460, we want to hear from you! We need a correct email and shipping address so we can send your Pebble(s). Please enter your info at http://bit.ly/kswaiting and we'll confirm Pebble shipments as fast as we can.

Thanks once again for your support, much more to follow soon!

Pebble iOS Email Notification Update + Pebble Developer Event

Email Notifications now work from iOS devices!

Today we released an update to the Pebble iOS App with the long awaited email notification feature! Now iOS users can receive email notifications from any IMAP or Gmail account on Pebble.

Unlike other notification types on iOS, email is not a push notification. Instead the Pebble iOS App checks for new email every 15 minutes and sends any new email notifications to your Pebble. Like other notifications if you receive more than one email, they will be presented in a stack that you can scroll through.

To set up email notifications, update your Pebble iOS App to version 1.2 then set up email notifications for any IMAP or Gmail account right in the Pebble iOS App. You can temporarily disable individual accounts if you prefer to only receive notifications from one of your email accounts.
