iOS 7 Notifications Update Now Available + Caller ID

We're happy to report the iOS 7 notification we announced last week has been approved by Apple. The latest Pebble app for iOS v 1.3 is now available for download in the iTunes Store!

Once you download the Pebble App for iOS, you will be prompted to upgrade Pebble to firmware version 1.13 automatically. If this doesn't happen for some reason, just hard close the Pebble App for iOS and then reopen it.

As you probably know, this update seamlessly integrates Pebble with the Notification Center in iOS 7 and allows you to receive notifications from apps like Calendar, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Flickr, Dropbox, WhatsApp, Flipboard and more.

See how iOS 7 notifications work:

This update also improves Caller ID! iOS users no longer need to manage access to their address book in order to see Caller ID on their Pebble. We fixed some other Caller ID bugs, too, included in the list below.

New features and bug fixes:
For iOS 7 users with iPhone 4S and greater:

  • Notifications are now sent over Bluetooth LE using Apple's Notification Center. Set up instructions for each notifying app may vary. Find info on how to enable your favorite apps in our Support Center.
  • Bluetooth LE setup is performed from within the Pebble app, by selecting "Enable Notifications".
  • Email set up is no longer required or supported within the Pebble iOS App as notifications are now supported from other email apps.

For all iOS users:

  • Caller ID now works without having to manage your address book.
  • Fixed issue where Pebble continued vibrating after receiving a call.
  • Pressing the back button when receiving a phone call now dismisses the phone call screen without hanging up the call, rather than declining the call.
  • Pebble can now show 80+ unread notifications.
  • Fixed crashing bugs on the iOS app, improving overall stability.
  • Fixed issue where settings were sometimes lost when Pebble was rebooted.

We hope you enjoy the new iOS notifications. Thanks and Pebble-on!

So exactly one week after asking for help received email with solution - just as well I wasn't in a rush!!!

My pebble died some time ago, a request for help from support resulted in NOTHING not even an aknowledgement of the request RIP PEBBLE

    3. Pebbles on December 4, 2013

My screen is starting to experience what looks like static on the screen. I have gone through numerous factory resets and allowed the battery to discharge completely, still it continues to be an issue. My watch is pretty much useless right now, has anyone else experienced the same? If so can you provide the solution, please?

    4. Geof Aberhart on November 27, 2013

How long does it take for them to respond to requests?

How much longer is it until hell freezes over? 'Cause it'll be about three weeks after that.

I have requested help but it hasn't happened. My iphone has i0s 6 and I want to leave it there but can't go back to the Pebble update which works with that. You sent a link to get it back but it didn't recognize my pebble. I am at a loss of what to do now. Waiting on customer service to email me back.

Why does it not work on iPhone 4?

I'm not getting the request to update firmware on watch. How can you force it?

Matt Marcotte on November 14, 2013

How long does it take support to respond to requests? The first time I mail in a few months ago I never got a reply. It's been two days now, and I'm wondering if my pebble's new problem will be similarly ignored this time around as well. If so I'll just toss the bloody thing and move on, since it's 80% useless in its current state.

      @Gerry Miller

Have you tried following the instructions found at the bottom of Update #44? That update from a few days ago said that there were still 460 backers whose watches haven't been claimed due to incorrect contact info. Chances are, one of those 460 is you.

Lost ALL notifications except texts and iMessages, and I'm extremely lucky if I get more than one in 20 of them coming to the Pebble. I was getting emails, stuff from Twitter and even updates from ESPN Scorecenter before the update. Now I get NOWT. Deleted, rebooted, factory reset, de-paired, re-paired, finger-danced like crazy - NOTHING WORKS.

I'm effectively being punished for having an iPhone 4. Thanks a freaking bunch.

So when are you going to release another 'improvement' - just so I know to avoid it like the plague. I'd still like to be able to tell the time and stuff.

    14. DareMachina on November 12, 2013

@Nick Lamb in order for the notifications to go to your pebble you have to have them "show on lock screen" Try disabling that and it should stop. You can still see notifications by pulling down the notification center on your screen (if you have that enabled)

@Whiletrue if you're jailbroken download "BTNotificationEnabler" and you'll have perfect notifications. That's what I used until I upgraded to iOS 7 in hopes of the pebble update working well :/

    15. Nick Lamb on November 12, 2013

I have the same question as Thomas: I have lots of apps that I want to show up in Notification Center that I don't want to show up on my Pebble. If I upgrade to the latest are they all going to start showing up on my watch?

This is a pretty important thing and I had it working decently before. Now I'm getting a bit flooded with watch notifications so I've disabled some that I liked on phone only to mitigate the buzzing arm action.

    16. Miles Cheverton on November 12, 2013

This update is genuinely terrible - you've managed to take the only thing that reliably worked, text messages and screw everything else up so badly I've had to turn all the notifications off.

If I mark an email as unread - I get a notification of a new email - the same email! a few seconds later!

I get a notification of EVERYTHING on my phone, not just the things that would flash up an alert - ALL of the tiny scroll down for 3 seconds banners - generates a buzz and takes my attention.

I had to reinstall the app to get the firmware to update.

My screen still corrupts when I scroll.

Christ alive - who the hell is running your software side? Who the hell is in charge of the UX? A monkey? What?

This piece of crap is going on ebay.

    17. John Maxwell Hobbs on November 12, 2013

Glad to see the update - it's already much easier now that I don't have to do the finger dance.

New bug - the watch starts to vibrate when I make a call, and the display indicates that a call is coming in, instead of simply showing the number being called.

    18. Andy Brown on November 12, 2013

Great job! Took a while to get connected but it's an enormous improvement. Thanks.

    19. Benjamin Silver on November 12, 2013

Notification delay is on Apple, I think.
I am still getting the call vibrate bug
Is it too much to ask for a "silence' button?
I often want to stop my watch/phone from vibrating but still let someone think I missed the call.

    21. JayC
      on November 12, 2013

yes, notifications are about 3-10 seconds delayed from when it hits my iPhone 5 to when it hits my Pebble.

    22. Nathan Allworth on November 12, 2013

In order to get the firmware update I had to:

      -Uninstall the app.
-Forget the Pebble on my phone.
-Forget my phone on the Pebble.
      -Reboot the phone.
      -Reboot the Pebble.
      -Reinstall the app.
      -Re-pair devices.

      A pain but it worked.

Rebooting the pebble after the new firmware install seems to work.

    25. Austin France on November 12, 2013

Fixed: Powering off iphone, shutting down pebble, power on iphone, then once phone is on, powering on pebble and it connected and is staying connected.

    26. Austin France on November 12, 2013

I should say, wont stay connected, its paired just wont stay connected.

    27. Austin France on November 12, 2013

After the update, my pebble wont pair with my iPhone any more, it says connected, then a second later disconnected.

      iPhone 4.

      Notifications: NONE.

I've finger-danced like the digital Michael Flatley. I've factory-reset twice. I've deleted and reinstalled the app twice. No change.

Way to kill my main use for it.

Ok. I think I have it fixed: I had to remove the Pebble App from the phone, reset the Pebble to factory defaults, reload the Pebble App and re-pair the phone to the pebble. I kinda feel like I'm dealing with Windows® on this one. Well, at least its running now. Now to reload all the watch faces and apps.

Just downloaded the new Pebble app… now I have a pebble that no longer talks over Bluetooth! I have removed the iPhone 5s from the paired list on the pebble, and removed the pebble from the bluetooth settings on the iPhone. The Pebble says its paired and connected, but iOS 7 doesn't think it is. I have removed the pebble app from the iPhone5s and have re-installed it, and it still behaves the same: It first says connected, then after 2 seconds says Not Connected. Anyone else?

    39. DareMachina on November 11, 2013

@ maestoso Pebble now uses Bluetooth Low Energy to send notifications which our iPhone 4 hardware doesn't support. You can still get notifications since it's supported by iOS 7. You need to go into Notification Center and turn off notifications for the app you want, then turn it back on. You will get notifications for that app (and any you did this for) until you lose connection with your Pebble.

    41. Ryan Challinor on November 11, 2013

Or, if it just respected the notification's sounds setting, that'd be fine. I only want my watch to vibrate when my phone would be vibrating.

    42. Ryan Challinor on November 11, 2013

Great to have notifications, but notification filtering per-app is pretty severely needed. I might have to stop using Pebble until that happens to keep my wrist from vibrating all day.

Thanks so much for the update. This update also fixed a big that prevented text notifications from passing through to other Bluetooth devices. The Uconnect in my car now works perfectly. Before text messages would only alert on my pebble and not on my car.

    48. DareMachina on November 11, 2013

Nice to see the update but why would you completely dismiss iPhone 4 and iPad 2 hardware?

My iPhone 4 was pushing notifications perfectly before the update on iOS 7 while maintaining great battery life. Now that I have the new firmware my Pebble is useless for notifications.
