New Watchfaces, Colors and Help Portal

We posted a couple new watchfaces available to install on your Pebbles today. You can find them inside the Pebble App for Android and iOS (you may need to close the app and open it again to refresh). Let's just say we got quite a few requests for a digital watchface that actually told the time as well as date, so we're happy to get this one out :) These are early days in the Pebble watchface arena, and I'm pretty excited about where it's headed. Unfortunately I don't have anything new to announce about the Pebble Watchface SDK today, other than we're working on it and using it internally to write watchfaces.

Manufacturing

Chinese New Year wrapped up at the beginning of the week, and our production line is back on-line. We're still not at full production speed yet as the various subvendors and factories that supply components to the Pebble assembly come back up after CNY. Also continuing to deal with delays (shenanigans?) as we ship plastic components from Taiwan to the factory in Dongguan, via Hong Kong.

As usual, you can track our production process at www.ispebbleshipping.com. We've manufactured over 25,000 Pebbles so far (30% there!), with 8,000 currently flying from Hong Kong to our distribution centres right now.

Speaking of plastics, the factory has shifted one of our two lens tools back to working with colors (one tool will always be making black lenses, almost 24-7). We're 'shooting' (injecting) each color one at a time because each color of plastic requires a slightly different temperature, pressure and cycle time. Each individual color also needs to be approved through a process called First Article Inspection (FAI) during which all dimensions are double checked. We've found that the fit between the bottom housing and the lens can vary quite a lot depending on the injection parameters, so we're being very careful before approving the mass production parameters for each color.

I'd like to personally apologize for anyone who has emailed us over the last 2 weeks. We have been swamped with questions and we have not done a good job at managing the overload, leading to a a bunch of unanswered messages. To help fix this, we now have 5 people dedicated to working with our backers. We're also working hard to improve our Support Center (help.getpebble.com).

We're tracking two major issues right now: 

iOS Email - Email notifications are still not flowing correctly on iOS. With input from the survey in the last update, we've been able to target our efforts on a solution. We'll be testing it internally over the next few weeks.

Battery life - We're getting reports from some Pebblers seeing a 1-3 day battery life instead of 5-7. We're unable to replicate this issue on any of our Pebbles, but we're hoping to narrow down the problem with the help of our backers. We're working hard on this, and we're confident that we can get to the bottom of it

We're also tracking several other issues: Allow/Ignore prompt on iOS (working on it), Android music control (fixed in next release of Android app), Caller ID on iOS (thought we fixed it, but broke again, working on it).

On the Android side, we're pleased to see many developers begin using Pebble's Android Intent API (developer.getpebble.com

Pebble Notifier brings dozens of new notifications and alerts to your Pebble, and integrates with Tasker.

Lightflow provides 'Total Notification Control' and integrates well with Pebble.

      I pledged at 27. April 2012 then. so new details:
      On 12. March 2013 i received the email that i should check my adress for shipment.
      On March 29.03.2013 i received that my pebble is shipped now...
      Pfff 17 days from shipement is ready to ship....
      Today, 9. April 2013 Pebble finally arrived (had to pay 20€ for customs, pff, but okay)

      But (on android) it worked 1a from the first second, pairng, watchfaces, cool!
      Looks great, i like it when i shake my wrist that the backlight goes on, and so on...

      So, finally the waiting was worth it (after 1h testing)

      ok aside from waiting longer than anticipated for the pebble, i noticed the time on this thing changed along with date year etc. just wondering if this is what happens when the battery dies? but then wouldn't there be some kind of gauge to see battery life ?plus my vision is not exactly the best nor the worst but i find it difficult to read notifications. and yes font size is in large setting. pebble has potential though.

      I'm just trying to predict which colors they'll mold next - seems like white will be among the last, since they'll have to purge the injection molders of the more vivid colors before then. Hopefully grey will come sooner rather than later...

      Has there been any sequence given for molding the different case colors that I've just missed?

      @Gerhard Krickl & Alon Waisman - Everybody "funded" Pebble on May 18th as that was the end of the Kickstarter campaign and the day they took the pledged payments from our credit cards.

      The important date to look for is your Pledge Date (it's the one underneath the the amount of money you backed a project for in the Pledge column of this page https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/transactions )

      I'm willing to bet that Gerhard's pledge date is a lot earlier than May 18th - probably April twenty-something, so Alon I don't think you need to be concerned yet. You backed quite late in the campaign on May 8th (so did I on May 6th) so we both probably have at least two or three weeks to wait (maybe more) judging by the production rates and the "back of a napkin math" that Graeme did in his recent comment.

      Hi all!

      First time poster, long time reader. I wanted to share my experience with Pebble Support to hopefully help and inform others.

      I received my Pebble on March 7th and within a few days noticed some screen distortion. I was of course bummed but it's just a watch, nothing to start a crusade over. I sent a support request email with the requested picture(s) and answers to their general questions. I received an automated reply within minutes and two emails from Pebble Support on March 15th advising my account had been flagged for an RMA and a return shipping label was on its way.

      Please note, I did NOT send multiple emails and received a response within 4 days.

      I think Kickstarter's golden child (Pebble) should be used as an example of a failure and how not to run a project. As long as Pebble still has backers money and are behind their commitments (i.e. schedule, SDK), they should be focused 100% on their existing core obligations / promises. Instead, Pebble has seemingly turned into a giant back patting PR/marketing machine while the principles of the company flying about promoting something they are not delivering on. Celebrating new applications, features, etc while they still are not delivering to existing customers is shameful. Not supporting folks that have received their watches and are having problems is shameful. Delaying updates on delayed production and shipping is shameful. All the while finding the time to keeping the marketing, self-congratulatory engine running full steam ahead. Eric, your *ss (and half your staff's) should be in a cleanroom in China in an honest attempt to get closer to meeting some of the numerous schedule promises you made. FU Pebble. FU Eric.

      I've been holding off comments since there's enough people complaining at you guys but we're a good 6 months behind deadline and the updates still come around once/month. I'd think spending 30' on a pebble update (even if it's to say X more shipped these last two weeks) would help alleviate the frustration of a lot of people who are simply excited to see the result of investing in your success..

      @Kiki - I think that people using IFTTT are using the SMS channel as the target (i.e. set your trigger to send you a text and then it goes through the regular Pebble SMS notification).

      Just in case you were wondering if your problems would cease once you received your Pebble.

      I got mine 2 weeks ago and the bottom right button only works if I firmly press and hold it. I contacted the support dept. the day I got it and still 2 weeks later have received NO response, beside an automated email with no indication of how to resolve the matter.

      Fair to say the customer service has been less than desirable.

      @jeff Gordon if Ifixit Backed and got theirs, what they do with it up to them. If they asked for one and got given one you also have to expect that. Same with media people reviewing it. They will be given them to review to get the word out on it. That is business and you have to accept that.

      Bf has not mentioned any disruptions to Bluetooth on base. I suppose there's nothing there similar to whatever is at the NSA's facility that's killing bluetooth.

      He did tell me yesterday he only got a partial message on pebble. I tend to send looooooooooong texts lol, so, there's no "scroll to read the rest"! (?) But it doesn't make sense.. What about emails? No scrolling?

      We haven't experienced the problem with getting notices in batches. Maybe if he gets email going - whenever that is! - we'll find out.

      Ok. Time for an update on my Pebble:

      *Still running on Friday's charge after initial set up, so battery life looks good! It has been over 4 full days.

      *Incoming call buzzzzzzzz works, but is delayed by maybe a second or 1.5 sec. Phone vibrates first, then Pebble picks it up.

      *Can't test e-mail but prob can't blame it on Pebble. Bf has been having problems with his email on his android for a while. We're working on it!!

      *IFTTT doesn't seem to have Pebble on it? Or are we missing something? Anyone tested IFTTT?

      @Jeff G. - If iFixIt wasn't actually a backer, they could just as easily have gotten it off eBay. Tearing up tech is what they do and they are damn good at it. I like seeing their take on it and that detail about the BT 4.0 chipset was technically correct - they just didn't have all the info - and it's just a little geek knowledge that those whom are interested in this kind of thing wouldn't have had. The teardown doesn't bother me at all. If anyone here wants a Pebble right now, you can probably nab one on eBay.

      Personally I'm beginning to believe it's better to be at the end of the production than the front as I'm guessing they are continuing to refine the production process and have likely started to identify processes and/or components that are responsible for some of the faulty Pebbles we've been reading about. When my Pebble finally gets here, the last thing I want is to deal with a defective stone ;)

They've send confusing messages as to when we should be receiving them, it's been far from clear and I have no indication as to knowing when it could appear. They've said there'd be regular updates and from memory an aim to fulfill all backers orders by the end if March - never gonna happen! I'd try and claw my money back if I could.
