New Watchfaces, Colors and Help Portal

We posted a couple new watchfaces available to install on your Pebbles today. You can find them inside the Pebble App for Android and iOS (you may need to close the app and open it again to refresh). Let's just say we got quite a few requests for a digital watchface that actually told the time as well as date, so we're happy to get this one out :) These are early days in the Pebble watchface arena, and I'm pretty excited about where it's headed. Unfortunately I don't have anything new to announce about the Pebble Watchface SDK today, other than we're working on it and using it internally to write watchfaces.

Chinese New Year wrapped up at the beginning of the week, and our production line is back on-line. We're still not at full production speed yet as the various subvendors and factories that supply components to the Pebble assembly come back up after CNY. Also continuing to deal with delays (shenanigans?) as we ship plastic components from Taiwan to the factory in Dongguan, via Hong Kong.

As usual, you can track our production process at We've manufactured over 25,000 Pebbles so far (30% there!), with 8,000 currently flying from Hong Kong to our distribution centres right now.

Speaking of plastics, the factory has shifted one of our two lens tools back to working with colors (one tool will always be making black lenses, almost 24-7). We're 'shooting' (injecting) each color one at a time because each color of plastic requires a slightly different temperature, pressure and cycle time. Each individual color also needs to be approved through a process called First Article Inspection (FAI) during which all dimensions are double checked. We've found that the fit between the bottom housing and the lens can vary quite a lot depending on the injection parameters, so we're being very careful before approving the mass production parameters for each color.

Help and Technical Support

I'd like to personally apologize for anyone who has emailed us over the last 2 weeks. We have been swamped with questions and we have not done a good job at managing the overload, leading to a a bunch of unanswered messages. To help fix this, we now have 5 people dedicated to working with our backers. We're also working hard to improve our Support Center (

If you backed Pebble on Kickstarter, your questions (when is my Pebble shipping? Where are the longer straps? and more) may already be answered here:

Technical Support

If you have any questions about your Pebble, please consult the Tech Support FAQ:

We're tracking two major issues right now:

iOS Email - Email notifications are still not flowing correctly on iOS. With input from the survey in the last update, we've been able to target our efforts on a solution. We'll be testing it internally over the next few weeks.

Battery life - We're getting reports from some Pebblers seeing a 1-3 day battery life instead of 5-7. We're unable to replicate this issue on any of our Pebbles, but we're hoping to narrow down the problem with the help of our backers. We're working hard on this, and we're confident that we can get to the bottom of it

We're also tracking several other issues: Allow/Ignore prompt on iOS (working on it), Android music control (fixed in next release of Android app), Caller ID on iOS (thought we fixed it, but broke again, working on it).

On the Android side, we're pleased to see many developers begin using Pebble's Android Intent API (

Pebble Notifier brings dozens of new notifications and alerts to your Pebble, and integrates with Tasker.

Lightflow provides 'Total Notification Control' and integrates well with Pebble.

Great to see all those photos of Pebble in the wild, keep them coming! Thanks Pebblers,

FYI - I backed a white Pebble on April 12th. I'm patient, but at this rate, I'm thinking it'll be around the same date this year that I'll get my pebble. We conceived a baby and she was born within this delivery timeframe. :P

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet but here it goes. I'm a KS backer who pledged on 4/14 for a white pebble. My concern is that since the white watch has additional white parts (wrist strap), we may not see white pebbles produced until the very end due to problems with molding. Anyone else agree? I guess we won't really know until Eric's next KS update, whenever that is.

Seriously, Eric and team. We need an update. We need to hear you are addressing issues. The ispebbleshipping web page hasn't been updated in 6+ days. Very little progress on fixes. No news on SDK. Etc. etc.

    13. Liam Dilley on March 12, 2013

Seems since last week everything has slowed right down and all but a halt.
Either the graph on ispebbleshipping not working for over a week or there are serious shipping and manufacture issues.

    14. Luke Garratt on March 12, 2013

@DK Surprised too. I don't comment much as I have had nothing to add and I when I backed I fully expected delays due to reading about other K projects. But really, what's with the lack of updates? Surely someone can afford 15 minutes of time to type up an update and brief everyone on the latest news.

What I did want to know is have the distributor packs been fulfilled? I only bought one and am slightly annoyed. Could only imagine what the 31 folks who dropped 10 large are thinking.

This Kickstarter project has become a joke. They promised to release SDK even before pebble get shipped. And where is it?
Based on the recent interview, they will sometime in the future give the developers first to make a watchfaces with SDK and only than they will allow us to make something valueable, I think it will take about a year or year and half for them to release a normal SDK which we can use to make some apps for pebble but not a stupid watchfaces.

Got my shipping notification, tracking number shows it left Singapore on March 7th. However, cannot properly track it to the UK as they're using Royal Mail/Parcel Force which only give me tracking information once the item has been delivered. Helpful. I presume it could be any day now...

    22. DK on March 11, 2013

The one thing they kept their promise on was biweekly updates. Now they can't even deliver them on time.
      16 days since last update.
      Excellent work

    23. Ryan Jean on March 11, 2013

It appears we are largely in agreement. It definitely needs RunKeeper straightened out ASAP. I went running for the first time with it yesterday, and it was nice to have the watch for quickly flipping songs on Pandora if I didn't like one, but I would much rather put the RunKeeper functionality on the watch for both tracking and start/stop/pause functions and disable all audio clues from RunKeeper.

I had a chance to play with email notifications, and I managed to get it to work, *IF* I reconnect the bluetooth (or reaffirm it in iOS settings), toggle all the notification switches for email accounts, and have no disconnects or even other notices (caller ID or SMS) in between doing the first two steps and the email arriving. That is a HELL of a lot of work to keep emails flowing, and needs to be fixed badly. You mentioned you're on Android, so perhaps you'll have better luck...

I'm still having problems with it not auto-connecting after having a bluetooth interruption, although it may be specific to iOS. There's a part of my commute that regularly takes me past a section of the NSA's facilities on Fort Meade where all bluetooth dies for about 10-15 seconds. My headset reconnects, but Pebble won't. For that matter, if I leave my phone on the charger and wander to the other end of the house, the interference is enough to break bluetooth connections.

There is one other notable problem, however, that if you get notices in a batch (SMS in close proximity, or new emails syncing at once) it will only display ONE of them, period, rather than letting me scroll through each. Once a notification is dismissed, no less, there is no way to get it back. We need something like a "last 5 minutes of messages" ability to scroll through. Also, I know it may sound odd, but I would actually like notifications to continue even if the phone screen is not locked, even if only to maintain continuity with the recent messages option I'm also requesting.

The pebble team probably considers these trivial, or perhaps nuisance, requests, but they should ask themselves if major companies (excluding game developers and their DLC) would allow a product to launch with this many lapses in QC. If pebble is going to survive in the fast approaching competition of other smart watches, they need to close up these problems now instead of later, or a $250+ apple watch will be a better value and pebbles will become the scourge of eBay and remembered as fondly as AOL diskettes.

    24. Ryan Jean on March 11, 2013

      @Kiki, @Peter,
I noticed the hand-scrawled number on the box, also matching a printed spot on the label. I backed early on the 19th, so I though similarly that my # of 19056 was a code in that fashion, but I'm thinking from Peter's post that it's either a batch indicator or, more likely, our elusive absolute backer number and in my and Kiki's cases it just happened to line up with the 19th.

    26. Peter Baylies on March 10, 2013

@Kiki there is a low batttery indicator, just not a battery indicator that stays on all the time. I noticed the number on my shipping box too (10435), I was thinking that might correspond to when the pebble watch was produced in the production line, but a backer number would make sense too. I see it's also printed on the shipping label. I backed on 4/15 I believe.

Backed 4/19 got my pebble on Thursday. So far I love it. Some times it disconnects but i think it's due to using it with my jaw bone as well. I was surprised to see I can use Siri with my jawbone while my pebble is still connected.

Overall I think it's a great product and love showing it off. The problem with showing it off is now everyone knows what I'm really doing when I look at my watch.

Oh on a side note, I noticed a hand written number on my Pebble shipping box -- "19266" above the shipping label. It is also printed on the shipping label. Did anybody else get that on their box? Wonder if it could be the "backer number". I backed 4/19.

Oh yeah love that it says "Kickstarter Edition" on the back of the watch. So far I'm happy with the product and slightly less disappointed in Pebble. But we need a lot more apps.. a lot more functionality!

Alright. Played w Pebble a bit. Charged it overnight on Friday after initial set up and will not charge again until it dies to test battery life, hopefully it will come back to life as I think I read someone's Pebble couldnt be resurrected. (using iPad adapter with Pebble's magnetic USB cable)
@Pebble we REALLY need a battery indicator.... And RunKeeper.. N-O-W!

*It is now 1130am on Sunday, so far it looks like I didn't get a defective one that's DOA or has a very short shelf life as it seems a couple of fellow backers unfortunately received.

*Loving the sliding time watchface. Need a multi-time watchface but I supposed we'll have to wait for the SDK for that... Pairing (android) and updating went smoothly. Vibrating text notification is awesome!

*Phone battery died last night and after plugging the phone in, Pebble reconnected no problem.

*Have not messed with email notifications yet. May try it later today with a strictly personal use account that doesn't get spam. Will also test IFTTT with it.

*Just realized incoming phone call notification has not been tested. Nobody actually calls anymore haha.

*Watch screen IS a fingerprint magnet but so is my iPad.. The problem is just more pronounced because of the size of the screen.

*Somebody please tell me how to turn off flick to turn on backlight!

The "mass of defenders" haven't "dissipated." There've just realized that there are folks on these comment threads who are irrationally angry at the Pebble team and there's no point wasting good keystrokes… and there're better things to do with life than feed the friggin' trolls.

You'll get your Pebble soon enough but it depends on when you backed and what color you chose.

    35. Frank Spencer on March 10, 2013

@ David, Thats not the case. Pebble have 50,000 KS watches still to build. Roughly 50% black and the remaining 25,000 colour. They have a Long way to go before getting to pre orders.

Has anyone at all with a colour order got off stage 1 yet ?

    48. Ryan Jean on March 8, 2013

As expected, mine arrived yesterday in the post. Here are my initial observations [iPhone 4 on iOS 6 (latest updates installed)]:
      1. Pairing and updating went extremely smoothly, but later in the evening I got another request for the app (or watch - not sure which) to "phone home" and it locked up the app, crashed it, and it kept crashing on restart until I rebooted the phone. There was no indication what that "phone home" accomplished, or why it crashed so spectacularly.
      2. Hello? RunKeeper Support? Update #29 (09Jan) said: "Notably missing from our launch release is support for Runkeeper. We're working closely with RK and estimate that it should be enabled by the beginning of March. Sorry about that!" Yes, once again, a teaser turned out to be utterly false, and we haven't heard a peep from them about it since. The team should be sorry, because their communications and PR skills are still as bad as they were last summer. RunKeeper and music control were the two main reasons I wanted this watch, and RunKeeper was the bigger of the two, so this is a continuing letdown.
      3. SMS and iMessage integration has been smooth, and the only problem is if I get multiple messages in quick succession. Email notification, however, has been a complete non-starter and I haven't been able to get a single one. I've tried every setting change I can think of, to no luck.
      4. The pebble won't auto-reconnect after signal is reestablished. I have to go into my bluetooth settings and click on the pebble in the list to get it to reconnect.
      5. The flick to turn on backlight is nice, but I actually want to turn it off (only for the flick gesture, not entirely) and can't figure out how.
      6. Please add the ability to buzz when bluetooth disconnects.
      7. The watchface selections need to be organized into a subfolder on the watch menu. It makes it harder to get to the options I actually want if I have to scroll through every watchface every time.
      8. Aesthetically, the watch is nice (although the strap is a bit on the cheap side and will need replacing) but it has a really tall face and not much curvature, so it barely fits on my wrist and my wife is completely SOL. The screen gets smudged and dirty very easily; it's a fingerprint magnet.
      9. The USB power cable is nice, and the magnetic attachment is useful, but I had to use my iPhone's adapter to plug it in for charging. An adapter ought to be included in the purchase (with a selection for different countries).
      10. There needs to be some kind of easily-findable charge amount indicator, so that we can see how the battery life is doing.
