Update #32

Manufacturing and Software Updates

Our production line is humming along, with the daily output creeping upwards to 1,500 Pebbles per day (PPD). Overall, it takes about 2 weeks for a single Pebble to be manufactured, assembled, boxed up and shipped to our distribution centers, so it took us a little while for the whole process to be ironed out.

There will be a one week interruption in output from the factory next week during Chinese New Year. We've taken steps to reduce the effect of CNY by stockpiling necessary components at our factory so that assembly can resume promptly after the holiday. In particular, to increase output before CNY, we've shifted some subassembly manufacturing to a facility in Taiwan for the most important assembly in the design, the optical adhesion of the LCD module to the lens. Building will be paused during CNY, but shipping will continue as we have a backlog of manufactured Pebbles to ship out.

Color Pebbles

As you can see in the graph above, we're on track to have manufactured 15,000 Black Pebbles before the beginning of Chinese New Year (Feb 8) (more data available on ispebbleshipping.com). After the holiday, production of other colours Pebbles will begin. In order to avoid delays, if you have a requested a Black Pebble as part of a multi-Pebble reward pack we will also be trying our best to fulfill that portion of the reward separately. We had to modify our shipping software to break down rewards into separate colors, so this hasn't started yet.

Software Updates

If you already have your Pebble on-wrist, keep your eyes peeled for updates to Pebble Android and iOS apps. As backers send us support requests and let us know about bugs and other problems, we will be publishing updates that fix issues you may be experiencing.

Software updates to the Pebble operating system (OS) itself will also be published regularly. The Pebble app on your smartphone will let you know when an update is available, and prompt you to install.

Known Issues

Pebble users have already reported several major issues that we're working to solve.

iOS email
When Pebble's Bluetooth connection with an iPhone or iPod touch is broken, the iOS software module that sends email notifications switches off. We've brought this issue up with Apple's developer support, but we can't expect a solution necessarily from this pathway. Currently, there is a workaround method to reenable email notifications (link) but it means toggling a switch after a disconnect. We are working to solve this problem (this is our #1 priority iOS task), and we'll keep Pebblers updated about this issue. To help us out, if you're an iOS Pebble user, please fill in this survey about your email usage.

Other issues that we're working to solve
- Email notifications from the default email app on HTC and some other Android devices are not being delivered to Pebble yet. On other default email apps (Samsung in particular) do not transmit email contents. Working on it.
- Some Pebbles are rebooting after receiving some notifications. If this happens to you regularly, use the Contact or Email support button inside the app to send us debug logs.
- iOS Caller ID. We've identified a bug that prevents a caller's name from appearing on Pebble. Will have a fix in the next iOS Pebble App version.
- Android two factor authentication - click here for instructions
- Watchfaces not loading on iOS. Fixed in the next version of the iOS app.
- Battery indicator: we're seeing reports of Pebble battery lasting from 2-7 days. It seems to be related to the variety of different Bluetooth connections on different phones. The first thing we're working on is improving the battery logging and how Pebble alerts you when the battery is almost empty. Then we'll move to improving battery life across the board.
- Android ROMs: we'll do our best, but unfortunately we cannot promise support for the entire wide world of Andriod ROMs out there. We're testing with stock devices from HTC, Samsung, Nexus (among others) and always on the stock OS.

- Pebble seems to interfere with Siri on iOS devices. Working on this problem.

Thanks for all your support, Pebblers! It's awesome to see the first users post pictures of their Pebbles in the wild. Keep the #PebbleTime coming!

This response is for Ante Vukorepa who made fun of my being upset at what I thought were the Pebble's team misleading of its "investors" of "customers". He thought I and others and was crazy for complaining about "lack of information after 32 updates? Seriously? I've seen projects with year-long delays with three times less information offered." I'm quoting his post exactly. That's the "gripers" point exactly. All we've gotten is ""updates, but not accurate information. Broken rosy estimates that are then followed by "updated" estimates that are wrong. We are left in limbo. Just tell us you don't know what's going on, that there will be delays and that you'll get you watch when you get it. Ante, if you're happy in not knowing when you'll get your Pebble, be happy. But don't chastise everyone else for expecting some level of professionalism and not wanting to be lied to. I'm done posting. Everyone knows where everyone else stands. Hopefully the Pebble team reads these posts and will speed up what they're doing and they know people aren't happy. But it doesn't matter. They have our money.

Fingers crossed you do buddy, but remember production halts as of today fo CNY.

Hopefully they produced enough already in order to satisfy black backers past your date. Its a guessing game for now.

Ok, here's the consolidation of the information people provided in this thread, sorted by backer date:

      Name / BackDate / Color / Number / Location / Status / Address Confirm
      Brad Corcoran / 11-Apr-12 / Black / 2 / CAN / 1-Shipping Address Complete / ...
      Jerome Martin / 12-Apr-12 / Black / 1 / ... / 3-Processing Shipment / ...
      Ian Easton / 12-Apr-12 / Black / 1 / ... / 3-Processing Shipment / 29-Jan-13
      Chris Farmer / 13-Apr-12 / Black / 1 / UK / 3-Processing Shipment / 31-Jan-13
      JoeO / 14-Apr-12 / ... / 1 / UK / 3-Processing Shipment / 2-Feb-13
      jspielberg / 17-Apr-12 / Black / 1 / ... / 1-Shipping Address Complete / ...
      Ryan Jean / 19-Apr-12 / Black / 1 / US / 1-Shipping Address Complete / ...

Unfortunately, it's not much to go on, but it does give us a chance to estimate. Based on this, for example, I would expect to get the email for shipping in about one week, based on a backer date of the 19th. Take from this what you will...

They shipped > 5,000 yesterday and they ship twice a week ! Now that the red tape for bulk shipments are out the way they are clear to start shipping out 10,000 min a week. (provided production can keep up!)

Well I got a pleasant surprise today, my pebble arrived. I just looked at the status on the web site and mine still says "Processing Shipment" so their notification system is a little slow.

The watch is quite nice, smaller than I thought it would be. I had their previous version, the inpulse, and this is much better. Minor issues connecting to my Nexus 4 but now everything seems to be working great.

For future improvements I would like a battery status display somewhere, either on the watch or the app. Also what happened to the shake your wrist to dismiss a notification? I tried and nothing happened.

I do hope I get my larger watch band I ordered soon, I am one the last hole on the one it came with.

I'm personally not upset that my Pebble hasn't shipped yet, but I feel like they've done a terrible job of communication and setting expectations. When I was told that my watch was "shipping soon", I expected that my watch was going to ship within the next 72 hours or so. More than a week has passed since then, and I haven't gotten any further direct communication. It's hard not to feel a little impatient when I have no idea what to expect.

OK...there is some dust on the watch, but since it is waterproof, no problem. I can just wash it off. And there is still bugs, hopefully they will keep trashing those bugs out.

I'm on iPhone 5 and iOS6. Email notification doesn't really work on both Gmail and Exchange. Till date, I only managed to get 1 email notification, and I got tons of emails everyday. I want to feel my wrist vibrating non stop before I will consider switching off email notifications, so far I do not have the chance.

SMS notification mostly works, but it does seems to miss a few here and there.

In there lies the problem. The frustrating thing is that Pebble are the only ones with all the info. I.e Number of units in each colour and production colour cycle frequencies (By Backer order).

@Jeff Alberda: Your Oompa-Loompa song made my day.

@Everyone: Please stop grousing. Half of you are complaining that Pebble is your personal "first-world problem", and the other half are reiterating "Kickstarter is not a Store" like we haven't heard it every few comments for the last few months. I have little patience for the former and I'm getting bothered by the misrepresentations still being put forward by the latter. Pebble is shipping now. You either have it now or will within a few weeks. Let's please move on with our lives.

      - For the lateness complainers: yes, it's slower than we'd all like, and yes, the Pebble team did not communicate nearly as effectively as they could or should have, but within a few weeks it won't matter and you'll all abandon this forum.

      - For the "it's an investment" mantra repeaters: The rules of KS are complex because it's a relatively new kind of funding method for companies to try. Please stop talking about a contractually-obligated pledge reward as a "gift." It is more akin to a beta form of pre-order (with a conditionality clause in the form of the original funding goal being met or not). I would agree that KS "is not a store," nor was it ever intended to be, but the projects launched on it operate much more like a store than you seem willing to acknowledge.

Can I make a suggestion? If you don’t like the comments your reading, then do one! It’s a forum not a Pebble appreciation page. People are entitled their opinions good or bad. Whether you like it not.

Why don’t you try contacting Pebble yourself? Oh, because I guess they have already ignored the mail you sent (I wonder why that is!) By the way how do you think they are shipping one at a time by pigeon??

Also, it’s not a first run. They have done testing. The testing PV was for finding the bugs, so they can’t use that excuse. I am sure Pebble Tech is doing their best, that I have no doubt.

I am intrigued to hear what the repercussions might be?
