Update #32

Manufacturing and Software Updates

Our production line is humming along, with the daily output creeping upwards to 1,500 Pebbles per day (PPD). Overall, it takes about 2 weeks for a single Pebble to be manufactured, assembled, boxed up and shipped to our distribution centers, so it took us a little while for the whole process to be ironed out.

There will be a one week interruption in output from the factory next week during Chinese New Year. We've taken steps to reduce the effect of CNY by stockpiling necessary components at our factory so that assembly can resume promptly after the holiday. In particular, to increase output before CNY, we've shifted some subassembly manufacturing to a facility in Taiwan for the most important assembly in the design, the optical adhesion of the LCD module to the lens. Building will be paused during CNY, but shipping will continue as we have a backlog of manufactured Pebbles to ship out.

Color Pebbles

As you can see in the graph above, we're on track to have manufactured 15,000 Black Pebbles before the beginning of Chinese New Year (Feb 8) (more data available on ispebbleshipping.com). After the holiday, production of other colours Pebbles will begin. In order to avoid delays, if you have a requested a Black Pebble as part of a multi-Pebble reward pack we will also be trying our best to fulfill that portion of the reward separately. We had to modify our shipping software to break down rewards into separate colors, so this hasn't started yet.

Software Updates

If you already have your Pebble on-wrist, keep your eyes peeled for updates to Pebble Android and iOS apps. As backers send us support requests and let us know about bugs and other problems, we will be publishing updates that fix issues you may be experiencing.

Software updates to the Pebble operating system (OS) itself will also be published regularly. The Pebble app on your smartphone will let you know when an update is available, and prompt you to install.

Known Issues

Pebble users have already reported several major issues that we're working to solve.

iOS email
When Pebble's Bluetooth connection with an iPhone or iPod touch is broken, the iOS software module that sends email notifications switches off. We've brought this issue up with Apple's developer support, but we can't expect a solution necessarily from this pathway. Currently, there is a workaround method to reenable email notifications (link) but it means toggling a switch after a disconnect. We are working to solve this problem (this is our #1 priority iOS task), and we'll keep Pebblers updated about this issue. To help us out, if you're an iOS Pebble user, please fill in this survey about your email usage.

Other issues that we're working to solve
- Email notifications from the default email app on HTC and some other Android devices are not being delivered to Pebble yet. On other default email apps (Samsung in particular) do not transmit email contents. Working on it.
- Some Pebbles are rebooting after receiving some notifications. If this happens to you regularly, use the Contact or Email support button inside the app to send us debug logs.
- iOS Caller ID. We've identified a bug that prevents a caller's name from appearing on Pebble. Will have a fix in the next iOS Pebble App version.
- Android two factor authentication - click here for instructions
- Watchfaces not loading on iOS. Fixed in the next version of the iOS app.
- Battery indicator: we're seeing reports of Pebble battery lasting from 2-7 days. It seems to be related to the variety of different Bluetooth connections on different phones. The first thing we're working on is improving the battery logging and how Pebble alerts you when the battery is almost empty. Then we'll move to improving battery life across the board.
- Android ROMs: we'll do our best, but unfortunately we cannot promise support for the entire wide world of Andriod ROMs out there. We're testing with stock devices from HTC, Samsung, Nexus (among others) and always on the stock OS.

- Pebble seems to interfere with Siri on iOS devices. Working on this problem.

Thanks for all your support, Pebblers! It's awesome to see the first users post pictures of their Pebbles in the wild. Keep the #PebbleTime coming!

btw there's a big delay between shipping and displaying it to the backer via the account page or email. looks like my pebble was sent out on february 8th, so in my case a 5 day delay. could very well be that your watch is already on it's way but you still don't know about it.

@JR congrats! I just checked my account and still no change I'm still stuck at Order Status 3. I really hope I get some kind of change because its been really disappointing these past two weeks that I have been stuck in this status.

@alan @JR its so frustrating and not to get answers and the generic meme/gifs, which were cute at first now are just insulting when you have a real concern. They have said for weeks they are basing it on when you pledge and the earlier you pledge the further along in the queue, but they refuse to offer any explanation or offer any kind of support concerning any part of shipping. I have defended Pebble and been a huge supporter but the lack of cern on their part when addressing shipping concerns is super disappointing. Now I read on reddit that someone who pledged on 4/15/12 received theirs (in the US where I am), again 3 days after I did I just don't understand.

People who think they're out of the proper shipping order, remember that Pebble is producing watches in large blocks of a single color. If you were the 999th backer who chose orange, I'm sure you'll be the 999th person who's shipped an orange watch, but there may be someone who is the 1000 backer who chose black who will get his or her watch earlier because there was a large block of black watches produced. You're not being discriminated against.

@shane i'm with you. also a 04/12 backer but not in the us. since 01/31 in processing shipment. others in my country who backed later already got their shipment notice. i think there's a faulty process that skips random people. i tried contacting pebbles twitter account but there you'll only get a pre-canned message with no real support. if nothing happens this week i'll try different channels to get an answer why some people just seem to be skipped. i really feel your frustation. checking the account site/mail account everyday for two weeks now to get an update only to find nothing happened is frustrating as hell...

As a huge Pebble backer and supporter I am becoming more and more disappointed and frustrated, I don't understand their shipping process or fulfillment process as its been explained based on backer order. I backed on 4/12/12 and live in the US, I don't understand how individuals who backed/pledged after me and live further away from the distribution center in SF than I do have already received their units. I have no change in address and haven't changed my initial pledge from Jet Black. I've been in Processing Shipment for two weeks now, its frustrating and hard to not questing the shipping process. The step 3 process explanation makes it even more frustrating by its vagueness "Any Order Status at Step 3 is on auto-pilot. The fulfilment process has begun, all to do is let it run its course."

This blows...I had backed on the 14th and I am still showing - Processing Shipment.

Also, I forgot to mention in my last update that I am living in the US so that makes it worse!

I wonder what the heck is happening with the shipping! No US Shipments sent since the 6th of Feb??? I knew CNY will cause this week to be slow, but I didn't imagine it would come to a stand-still.

For people who will be using Pebble with Android, integration with Google Now would be fantastic. Lots of Google Now information wouldn't belong on the Pebble, but things like:
"you'll be late for your next appointment if you don't leave now"
"your next train will be arriving in 5 minutes"
      "Niners score. It's now 28-17"
      would be great.

Especially now that Apple is rumored to be designing their own watch, I don't see the likelihood of cooperation on the Siri front:-( but hopefully Google will be open to extending Google Now to the Pebble.

It's well and good saying calm down and throwing insults but the reality is we bought a product ( and lets face it that's what we done..back us and we give u this = purchase in my eyes) and its 5 months going on 6 months late. We are told lies and given false promises in updates that tell us nothing of any real importance. Emails/pms and All else are if ignored and all for the fine price of 130 dollers all in all. So I think the folks here have a right to be annoyed, ask questions and expect honest answers. It's just sad that this team do not respect us enought to give us either

Geez, get a friggin life and stop worrying about a process that you don't (and THANK God don't) have any control over. I have been in the tech manufacturing business for 25 years and the fact that Pebble is shipping at ALL is a huge testament to their dedication and hard work. The fact that these whiners are getting SO worked up over a $100 device is SAD. If this is the most difficult hurdle in your life right now, you are damn lucky. Take a deep breath, one more...now CHILL the FRACK OUT!!!

Too many complainers! This was a tough gig. They didn't have the experience nor commercial clout of an Apple type of company and had to get this whole thing off the ground from scratch. The fact that they're shipping is testament to their success. The fact that the tooling and manufacturing had to be done in China is shameful. But, thanks to a US government hostile to business, that's what we get.
