Update #32

Manufacturing and Software Updates

Our production line is humming along, with the daily output creeping upwards to 1,500 Pebbles per day (PPD). Overall, it takes about 2 weeks for a single Pebble to be manufactured, assembled, boxed up and shipped to our distribution centers, so it took us a little while for the whole process to be ironed out.

There will be a one week interruption in output from the factory next week during Chinese New Year. We've taken steps to reduce the effect of CNY by stockpiling necessary components at our factory so that assembly can resume promptly after the holiday. In particular, to increase output before CNY, we've shifted some subassembly manufacturing to a facility in Taiwan for the most important assembly in the design, the optical adhesion of the LCD module to the lens. Building will be paused during CNY, but shipping will continue as we have a backlog of manufactured Pebbles to ship out.

Color Pebbles

As you can see in the graph above, we're on track to have manufactured 15,000 Black Pebbles before the beginning of Chinese New Year (Feb 8) (more data available on ispebbleshipping.com). After the holiday, production of other colours Pebbles will begin. In order to avoid delays, if you have a requested a Black Pebble as part of a multi-Pebble reward pack we will also be trying our best to fulfill that portion of the reward separately. We had to modify our shipping software to break down rewards into separate colors, so this hasn't started yet.

Software Updates

If you already have your Pebble on-wrist, keep your eyes peeled for updates to Pebble Android and iOS apps. As backers send us support requests and let us know about bugs and other problems, we will be publishing updates that fix issues you may be experiencing.

Software updates to the Pebble operating system (OS) itself will also be published regularly. The Pebble app on your smartphone will let you know when an update is available, and prompt you to install.

Known Issues

Pebble users have already reported several major issues that we're working to solve.

iOS email
When Pebble's Bluetooth connection with an iPhone or iPod touch is broken, the iOS software module that sends email notifications switches off. We've brought this issue up with Apple's developer support, but we can't expect a solution necessarily from this pathway. Currently, there is a workaround method to reenable email notifications (link) but it means toggling a switch after a disconnect. We are working to solve this problem (this is our #1 priority iOS task), and we'll keep Pebblers updated about this issue. To help us out, if you're an iOS Pebble user, please fill in this survey about your email usage.

Other issues that we're working to solve
- Email notifications from the default email app on HTC and some other Android devices are not being delivered to Pebble yet. On other default email apps (Samsung in particular) do not transmit email contents. Working on it.
- Some Pebbles are rebooting after receiving some notifications. If this happens to you regularly, use the Contact or Email support button inside the app to send us debug logs.
- iOS Caller ID. We've identified a bug that prevents a caller's name from appearing on Pebble. Will have a fix in the next iOS Pebble App version.
- Android two factor authentication - click here for instructions
- Watchfaces not loading on iOS. Fixed in the next version of the iOS app.
- Battery indicator: we're seeing reports of Pebble battery lasting from 2-7 days. It seems to be related to the variety of different Bluetooth connections on different phones. The first thing we're working on is improving the battery logging and how Pebble alerts you when the battery is almost empty. Then we'll move to improving battery life across the board.
- Android ROMs: we'll do our best, but unfortunately we cannot promise support for the entire wide world of Andriod ROMs out there. We're testing with stock devices from HTC, Samsung, Nexus (among others) and always on the stock OS.

- Pebble seems to interfere with Siri on iOS devices. Working on this problem.

Thanks for all your support, Pebblers! It's awesome to see the first users post pictures of their Pebbles in the wild. Keep the #PebbleTime coming!

Fear not - I just got the notification that my Pebble (black) has shipped. I backed on 14-Apr-2012.

It's already showing as having been accepted in Canada Customs at Vancouver. It left Singapore on 18-Feb-2013 and arrived in Canada on 21-Feb-2013.

      Can't wait.

      Simon Roberts,

I meant to add a copy of my reply of 6 Feb to your comment of 6 Feb:

"Simon Roberts, of even more interest about Joseph is that I suspect jizzforjoe could be working 'on the side' as a porn star. Beat that!"

The reference to jizzforjoe is clearly a play on jisforjoe. Bad taste, I know, but there it is - the undeniable link between Peter Cartwright Stalks Me, Joseph Kristoffer and Pebble Tech. He is a very naughty boy.

      That's it.

Its ok Peter i know exactly what i wrote on Feb 6, and i know exactly why i wrote it, based on the Twitter link and description of himself in his profile.

This just speaks volumes for the calibre of individual that Pebble (Eric) has hired, well he is a "Gun for Hire".

      Simon Roberts,

Joseph Kristoffer aka jisforjoe aka "Peter Cartwright Stalks Me" is not only a spin merchant but a liar and that is irrefutable. I can't prove that JK from Brooklyn NYC has become PCSM from Munich Germany in the last few hours because anyone can change any of these details anytime in their KS profile.

However, what they CAN'T change are their previous comments on KS. On 6 February there were several comments posted by "Peter Cartwright Stalks Me" in the Update #32 comments. They were all very defensive of or favourable to Pebble Tech. That same day, you yourself posted this comment:

"@Joseph Kristoffer Maybe before you pen anymore comments you should, in the spirit of open disclosure, let all the people that dont know it yet that you are on the Pebble PayRoll"

I invite anyone to find any comments from a KS Backer named "Joseph Kristoffer" which preceded your comment. I've checked very carefully. There aren't any. The former JK comments are now badged as PCSM comments because he has edited his profile and the new name attaches to all comments, old and new. I myself picked up on your comment at the time and made a smart arse reference to his handle @jisforjoe.

Joseph Kristoffer, the bigger problem with most wrong behaviour isn't usually the deed itself itself but the cover-up later. You did not disclose your association with Pebble Tech when you made your comments; you do not disclose it now; you have twisted, turned and now lied to cover-up; and you have insulted me in the process.

Joe, you invited that reddit poster to PM you in your capacity as the Pebble Community Manager to fix a problem. My question was, and still is, will you offer that same option to everyone else who has the same problem and, if so, how do they PM you? There are many terribly frustrated KS Backers who have that same problem i.e. sending multiple emails following up on a support issue, without knowing that each time they email they lose their place in the queue.

    12. 130626.sadface.small

Creator De la Sad on February 21, 2013

This is a personal account, but I do no there is no PM feature on Kickstarter as a platform and that Pebble has made themselves available on other platforms where they can respond more directly to anyone who needs assistance.

    13. Missing_small

Creator Peter Cartwright on February 21, 2013

      Dear Kickstarter Backers,

The user "Peter Cartwright Stalks Me" has renamed his account. It was once named "Joseph Kristoffer" and you will see he has posted here before, strongly supporting how Pebble Tech operates. Unfortunately he did not disclose when posting that he was also on Pebble's payroll - in fact he is their Community Manager.

From his recent post here, as the re-named PeterCSM, you will see that Joe has not offered you the ability to PM him in his professional capacity working for Pebble Tech to restore your place in the support queue if you have emailed them multiple times about a problem with your Pebble. Yet he offered exactly that to someone on reddit. So everyone else just needs to live with the frustration of waiting for your ticket to come up, knowing that if you email them again you'll lose your place in the queue.

Joe thinks I'm stalking him. I think that as Community Manager, he needs to do his job and from the increasing negativity of the comments here, he aint doin' it. I guess insulting me personally makes him feel better.

Joe, that was edited out because it was an invitation to an individual reddit poster who had a specific problem. Are you now saying that anyone who has emailed support several times can PM you and you will restore them in the queue? If so, how do they PM you?

There is a reason that we backers get an ETA on the product.
I have no problem waiting, I was one of the first backers on the Lunatik project and the VERE project that I backed almost 2 years ago and just got my reward a month ago, BUT, I do like to know where I am standing.

You didn't place an order. You backed a project. This isn't Amazon. If you want to buy cool electronics go to Amazon. If you want to help foster cool new electronics businesses, this is the place.

You can't complain if your reward for backing a project takes longer than you thought. It's a reward, not an order. New businesses are squirrely and unpredictable. Don't invest if you want predictability and certainty. Invest because you want to encourage entrepreneurs. But be prepared to wait… sometimes a very long time.

Gary Denney, that is Greg's point exactly. The red line on ispebbleshipping shows total pebbles shipped but the label for the red line says ROW shipped. The confusion is not helped by the version of the graph they post on this Update page which is quite different from the one on ispebbleshipping.

Greg Noack, you are exactly right. There is constant confusion about this graph and a simple label change would fix it. Again, it's a communication issue and something which Pebble is doing very poorly. That guy is Joseph Kristoffer (aka "jisforjoe") who describes himself as a "writing gun for hire" and who, by the way, has posted comments here on Kickstarter without disclosing he is on Pebble's payroll.

@ Mike - Sorry my last post was in reply to Scott ( Just incase you thought it was for you)

I didn't get on board until May. So I have a bit to wait yet, hence my eagerness to find out all the variables that will get the watches to me as quickly as possible. Its the subject too part, that bothers me !!

One advantage of waiting longer is that they will have time to iron out all the bugs !!

    48. Missing_small

Creator Mike Heard on February 19, 2013

@Graeme - when did you back? Guessing from recent updates that multi-backers should see their watches coming off soon - subject to colour, date backed etc etc etc.
I backed a single grey watch on the 19th April, so am hoping that i should get my watch in the next 3-4 weeks, subject to........!!!

I understand what you're saying about Pebble answering the questions and to a degree, agree! I think it's a difficult situation all around. Eric et al, can't win - give the information, don't give the information; it's still the same shit-sandwich for backers. Personally i would give as much information as is possible, so at least people know, but then I'm not charged with delivery a project of this scale.

I think the other thing we should consider is that Pebble are running a really lean team - there's only 10 peeps in total. Again, that's not justification for anything as you could argue, employ more staff - i don't always think that helps either.

Long of the short - there's no easy answer to any of this!

    49. R40hxsn.small

Creator Graeme on February 19, 2013

The point I was trying to make is that they said they would start cycling the colours after CNY and that means the blacks go to back of the queue again.

On a positive note I did see on twitter that they had sorted out the multipack issues they had with the shipping software, so you might just sneak into the current black batch.

I am in the same boat as you. I am waiting for 5 office pack (all black- But at the moment, its hard to tell whether this will work for or against me!)

Update 33 (Hopefully tomorow) will hopefully shed more light on it and you we have a a better idea of when delivery is likely.

Just for the record, I aint crushing anyones dreams, It's Pebble that should be answering these questions and perhaps apologising for the balls up !!!
