Oodles of Color

Hi everybody!

Quick update before the Canada Day long-weekend.

Color Selection

We've started accepting color suggestions. So if you've got any ideas for cool Pebble colors, here's how you can get your voice heard! The best way to send us your color is with the hex color value. Don't forget to create a memorable name, then send your suggestion to us via

After you post your suggestion, we'll create a render of Pebble using your suggestion and post it on our Pinterest page. If you like someone else's color combination, be sure to repin, tweet, like or generally talk about it!

Next week, we'll be sending out an email to all backers of a color pebble with a link to the color voting survey, taking into consideration all the suggestions that we've received.

PCB Layout Complete

A major milestone is complete...we've created the final design for our printed circuit board (PCB). This is the main electronics board that contains all the integrated circuits and passive components that make up Pebble. It's double sided...so that 3D render above is just one side! The wires coming out the bottom are from the vibrating motor.

This is close to the actual size of the board. It's roughly the size of the 'tab' key on a MacBook keyboard.

Android Developer APIs

Pebble was at Google IO this week. We used the opportunity to start the conversation with developers around our Android APIs. If you're interested, you can learn more at developer.getpebble.com. This is just the beginning of our developer outreach, we'll be releasing other sections of our SDK over the coming months.

My Fam and I just moved. How do we update our mailing address for our Pebble watches? Thanks., BK

    2. CaffeineJunkie on July 11, 2012

@Rick others have also asked for this kind of thing on the offical forums. I'll be looking at what information can be obtained from the accelerometer and how this can be interpreted for things such as swim strokes/laps once I get my hands on the SDK.

    3. Rick Tan on July 10, 2012

Can some developer please develop a software in the watch that can track number of swim strokes per lap? The distance of the lap can be entered by the user. This info can then be sync with the phone later. With the distance, time, number of stroke, this will help swimmers improve.

I will pay to get it install on my Pebble.

      Thanks

cant wait until I get to play with this. any word as to a potential ship date?

    8. Max Sablosky on July 4, 2012

Hey could we buy two different bands like one white one black?

      Bernie on July 3, 2012

I like the pink from "So Fetch" but with a white bandand purple from "Wombat Puke" (hate the name). Is it possible to have the band be a lighter shade of the face?? That would be cool.

any news on the shipping date?

    11. Elon Svärdhagen on July 3, 2012

@Pzboyz: No, as far as I've understood it, there's no voting going on yet. They're using pinterest so showcase the colours, so we can view them before we can vote.

    12. Ofir Cohen on July 3, 2012

Hi! I'm with Josh, Kevin and Beth,YY, any way to upgrade to the color from black?

    14. Max Sablosky on July 3, 2012

Agreed gun metal brushed aluminum look

    15. Barry Dyer on July 2, 2012

Another vote for an anodised aluminium or equivalent gunmetal grey appearance with colour-matched strap. #708090 in a matte finish for preference. Really looking forward to seeing if the suggestions for more than one voters choice materialise given so many backers.

Anodized aluminum or titanium would be nice options.

To riff off Rick van de Laar's idea, I think that an anodised aluminium, or otherwise, chrome/metal based fascia would be classy as hell. Such as is found on traditional wristwatches. If not for this then perhaps Pebble 2!

matte black aluminium would be awesome. i'd instantly upgrade my pledge.

Why can't we do all Purple? Purple Strap and Purple faceplate?

    21. Matt Combes on June 30, 2012

I'm really hoping for a silver/steel color ... also wondering whether or not we might get the option to choose between the watch face and the band, e.g. order the black face with a white band or vice versa.

I must say, I have to agree with Garry Queen's comment on his colour preferences, there's nothing worse than having to keep on wiping fingerprints off of a hard shiny black surface !
So looking forward to receiving my Pebble.

Interesting update! Thanks. Is it possible to add a few lines about the PCB telling which components are show in the 3D rendering? Done some hardware and software design myself, so I'm very interested in the hardware you are using (a few items have already been discussed). Keep up the great work!!!!!

Garry Queen on June 30, 2012

I think a pure black model is the best for me but i'd like to see it in a matte (possibly soft feel) finish rather than the glossy, fingerprint and scratch prone finish it is currently

    28. Magnus Hølvold on June 30, 2012

Mattheus, I do think they know about a few of these already, considering that the Pebble isn't the first product or even the first smartphone-connected watch they've made. :)

Super-excited for this thing, as it's the first time in a long time where someone has basically come out with exactly the product I have been looking for. Usually, exciting tech here is stuff I didn't know I wanted or stuff that approximates what I wish I had. Pebble was a 100% smash hit. Now, if only I can make sure the special colour turns out to be either orange or coffee-coloured. :D

dear Eric and the other pebble team, I feel happy that i don't have to deal with the business problems you will have to solve in the upcoming months: production problems and delays, logistic problems, administrative problems, and so on. You will experience that every success has always also another side that is not seen by the people. However, I wish you and your young team a lot of succes and mental strength in the upcoming months. You will experience that you have never learned so much in such a short period :-)

They had a prototype, but that had the pcb external to the watch (look closely in videos and you can see it). They knew what the components where and how they fitted together, but this is the final miniaturised circuit.

That PCB looks great! I'm actually the guy who designed the optimized via hole that allows the elements on both sides of a PCB to be joined with a near-0 impedance loss while I was developing the high-gain antenna array used for mobile broadband Internet, which is what makes time travel possib... Whoops, wrong invention. The device that makes cell phone Internet possible :-) Anyway, enough bragging, you guys have taken that invention in a wonderful direction I would have never thought of when I was designing it, and it's mighty impressive. You've done me proud, boys, you've done me proud!

Question on the SDK... Is it intended to reflect Android, or will it be a little more iPhone-y when you are done? For instance, aren't "intents" and Android thing? Shouldn't the interface be sorta cross platform?

For those of us without pintrest/twitter (or who don't engage in social networks otherwise) this seems like an undue way of casting votes. It's fine to drum up interest, but I hope there will be a more formal method to selecting finalists?

Also, while the original opening was for only four colorways, with $10m I'm hoping you guys could see fit to option a couple more? That would be pretty rad. :)
