We love sharing Pebble’s story with you—whether it’s a new product, software update, or simply staying in touch online and in person. Today, we're closing one chapter and inviting you along for what's next. We hope to answer as many questions as possible in our formal announcement, in our final Kickstarter Update, and on our Support site.

Pebble is joining Fitbit

Fitbit has agreed to acquire key Pebble assets. Due to various factors, Pebble can no longer operate as an independent entity, and we have made the tough decision to shut down the company. The deal finalized today preserves as much of Pebble as possible.

Pebble is ceasing all hardware operations. We are no longer manufacturing, promoting, or selling any new products. Active Pebble models in the wild will continue to work.

 

Making Awesome Happen will live on at Fitbit. Much of our team and resources will join Fitbit to deliver new “moments of awesome” in future Fitbit products, developer tools, and experiences. As our transition progresses, we’ll have exciting new stories to tell and milestones to celebrate.

It’s no doubt a bittersweet time. We’ll miss what we’re leaving behind, but are excited for what the future holds. It will be important for Pebblers to extend a warm welcome to Fitbit—as fans and customers—sharing what they love about Pebble and what they’d like to see next.

 

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to each and every Pebbler for supporting us over the years. Our community is vibrant. Our community is passionate. You are what made Pebble special and worth fighting for, every second of every day. We will always remember the love you showed Pebble, through thick and thin.

As the backers who originally brought Pebble to life, we'd like to share some special news about an exciting update for Pebble Classic and Pebble Steel today.

During the Pebble Time Kickstarter campaign, we promised to bring support for Pebble Time’s 3.0 operating system to the rest of our lineup. We’re happy to announce that timeline, unlimited apps, and more are fully available today with the release of Firmware 3.8.

To migrate your Classic Pebble or Pebble Steel to the new firmware:

1) Download the latest version of the Pebble Time smartphone app for iOS (v3.5) or Android (v3.8.0).

2) Follow the setup instructions in the Pebble Time smartphone app to complete the migration process.

Important Notes for Pebblers interested in upgrading their watches to Firmware 3.8:

• Watches upgraded to Firmware 3.8 can be operated in English, French, German, or Spanish.
• The Pebble Time smartphone app (required to upgrade and manage any Pebble running 3.0+ firmware) is currently available in English only.
• The original Pebble app (which manages Pebbles running 2.X firmware) is available in English, French, and German, and Spanish.
• Chinese support is not available for watches on 3.0+ firmware. Chinese remains available on watches running Firmware below 3.0.

Bringing Pebble Time’s 3.0 software to non-Time watches has been one of the most challenging projects we’ve tackled. We’re excited to share the results of that hard work with today’s release.

We're happy to announce that the Pebble Android app featuring the Pebble appstore is now available for download from the Google Play store. It's taken a bit longer than expected, but we wanted our Android users to enjoy the same seamless and delightful experience we recently provided to Pebblers on iOS. Special thanks to the Pebble users and developers who tested our Android beta builds: your help and feedback was invaluable.

New Partner Apps! 

Along with the Android appstore launch, we’re happy to welcome eBay, Evernote, and Time Warner Cable as partners. They join our growing lineup of partners, including Mercedes-Benz, Yelp, and Foursquare.

The eBay app for Pebble lets users quickly and easily access their eBay Feed and discover products on their smartwatch. With the push of a button, the eBay app for Pebble allows users to add an item to their Watch List and then complete the shopping experience on their smartphone.

Evernote for Pebble helps you remember everything across all your devices by giving you convenient, wrist-top access to core Evernote features like Checklists, Reminders, and Notebooks. Pebblers using Evernote can easily view upcoming reminders, bring up notes about a new restaurant recommendation, check off items from grocery lists without digging into pockets for a phone, and more.

Time Warner Cable and Pebble have teamed up to build a Pebble app that allows Intelligent Home subscribers to control their home right from their wrists. If you’re at SXSW Interactive this year, swing by the Developer Garage to see the Time Warner Cable app for Pebble in action.

We’d also like to congratulate Mercedes-Benz for recently launching their phenomenal Digital DriveStyle app in the Pebble appstore.

Pebble for Android 2.0 Release Notes

• Completely revamped and improved user interface design. 
• Pebble watchapp directory: browse, find, and install the latest watchapps for Pebble. 
• Watchapp locker: keep track of your favorite apps and manage the apps on your Pebble. 
• The list of prior notifications is now stored on your Pebble. 
• Using Pebble watchapps that connect to the internet to fetch data such as location or weather requires the Pebble Android app to be running on your phone. 
• This release supports a single Pebble watch. We are aware that some users may have multiple Pebble smart watches, and will add support in a future release. 
• Users of the Beta release of the Android 2.0 application will only see the old app in the Google Play Store. Delete the Beta version of the app to see the public version properly. 
• Side-loading apps from the “Downloads” app or Gmail may fail. This is a known issue—users must currently use another method (e.g. Dropbox, downloading with an alternate browser, copying manually to a SD card, loading from the File Manager, etc.) 
• Users may have to manually re-launch the Pebble app and reconnect to a Pebble that has been disconnected from the paired device for a long period of time. 
• If a user is experiencing difficulty connecting their Pebble and phone: We suggest the user first try using (device) Home button then launching the Pebble app again via the Android launcher, then attempting to connect again. If that does not work, we suggest the user navigate to the Bluetooth settings menu, un-pair on both the android and pebble devices, and turn Bluetooth on Android off then on.

The appstore features separate areas for apps and watchfaces, with six app categories: Daily, Tools & Utilities, Notifications, Remotes, Fitness, and Games. We’ve made it easier than ever to find your next favorite app -- whether you’re tracking your workout, managing your music, or controlling your thermostat.

The Pebble appstore is a centralized location for apps and watchfaces with actively curated lists that bring you the best apps and watchfaces every day. Our new locker feature stores your favorite apps and watchfaces, giving you a quick and easy way to load and unload apps from your Pebble.

Download the new Pebble app for iOS to access the Pebble appstore today. We're still working on the public release of the Pebble app for Android, so stay tuned -- it’s coming very, very soon. To get a sneak peak of the Android app you can access a BETA version on our developer blog.
