What's Cooler Than Cool? Pebble's Last Day on Kickstarter!

Welcome to the home stretch!

Less than 30 hours remain before the campaign for Pebble Core, Pebble 2, and Time 2 wraps up on Kickstarter. While this chapter comes to a close, the project is far from over.

Your support has brought Pebble’s next generation of wearable technology to life. After tomorrow, things really kick into high gear :)

The road to Rewards continues.

Cooler Than The Coolest?

The Pebble community continues to amaze. This time around, you’ve carried our project to over $12 million from more than 63,500 backers. Your support means Pebble Core, Pebble 2, and Time 2 is now the #3 All-Time Most Funded project in Kickstarter history.

Is Pebble cooler than The Coolest? One day left to make it happen!

Only a few hours remain to snag the #2 spot from The Coolest Cooler, but we are within striking distance! There’s a few key ways you can get us passed The Coolest on Kickstarter, right behind last year's Pebble Time.

Pledge Now for Reward Add-Ons

Simply add the early bird price to your pledge for any Pebble add-ons you want to make :)
Simply add the early bird price to your pledge for any Pebble add-ons you want to make :)

For those of you who wanted a combination of Pebbles that there isn't an official tier for (e.g. one Time 2 + one Time Round, one Core + one Time Round, etc.), we have a system in place for you to add on and pay for items after the campaign closes.

Add-ons will be available at the Early Bird Price:

  • $69 for Pebble Core
  • $99 for Pebble 2
  • $169 for Time 2
  • $199 for Time Round Special Editions

If you were already planning to add items to your official reward tier, you can add the dollar amount of the item(s) you want to your pledge now, before the campaign ends. We will automatically carry over your total amount pledged to our post-Kickstarter reward management portal. You can use that pledge balance for the items you want added to your official Pebble Reward(s).

What’s Next for Backers

Pebble Kickstarter campaigns always feature a mix of new friends—crowdfunding a creative project for the first time—and past backers.

Whether you’re a Kickstarter pro or newbie, let’s go over Pebble’s post-campaign game plan as it stands. Dates listed in the timelines below are estimates for your reference, and are subject to change.

June 30–July 7: Pledge Funds Collected

After the campaign closes, your pledge will be finalized and Kickstarter will collect payment (using the payment information specified in your Kickstarter account). Collecting payment for everyone’s pledges can take up to one week, especially for large projects. Don’t worry if your pledge funds aren’t collected immediately.

July 11–24: Access to Your Pebble BackerKit

During this time, we will invite you directly via email to access and set up your Pebble BackerKit. This dashboard will be the one place to manage everything about your Pebble reward(s):

  • Shipping address.
  • Color and/or finish preference(s).
  • Adding extra items to your official reward at the Early Bird price.
  • Adjusting any selections or details currently submitted.
  • Paying for any outstanding balances, taxes, or fees (if applicable).

Between receiving initial access to your Pebble BackerKit and when rewards start shipping later this year, you are free to change the information and selections you’ve entered at any time.

When your rewards are ready for shipping, we will email you directly to perform a final review before locking your BackerKit to further changes. For more information about BackerKit, managing your pledge, or our reward fulfillment plan, visit our Kickstarter Help Page.

Projects We Love

A major highlight of the Pebble journey so far is the friends we make along the way. We’re all about showing love to the projects that integrate and work with Pebble. On that note, check out some projects and teams we’re proud to call friends.

Richard Tracy Brand has been building Pebble bands since the very beginning! They’ve launched three Pebble-related Kickstarter projects and are proud to announce that their latest HAMMER silicone straps fit Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2 like a glove.

Led by Jason Hilbourne in Portland, OR, this mom-and-pop shop designs bands while wife Greta fulfills orders. For the Hilbournes, the best part of making accessories is the connections they build with customers: “I can't tell you how many ‘hairy wrist’ photos we've received, and we we love every one!”

Revols: Custom-fit Bluetooth Earbuds

Works with: Pebble Core

Revols are the world’s first custom-fit Bluetooth earphones that mold to the unique shape of your ears in exactly 60 seconds. The coolest part is that the entire customization process is controlled by an app on your phone. Revols teamed with Onkyo to deliver premium sound. Like Pebble, these revolutionary earbuds are pushing boundaries and making wearable technology more attainable. They got their early start on Kickstarter by raising over $2.5M and making over 10,000 earphones during their campaign! We can’t wait to try out a set of Revols with Pebble Core!

Delightful + Personal = Pebble

We’re not here to save the world, but we do want to save you from wearables that suck. Working with you—the Pebble family—to make that happen is what gets us up in the morning.

We exist to bring you closer to delightful, personal technology. We live for a future that—little by little—seizes opportunities available today to make what worked in the past even better. As computers connect ever closer to the body and mind, Pebble will be on the front lines to explore, understand, and deliver the best wearable technology possible.

We started with a watch. The original Pebble added new capabilities to something we were familiar wearing. The focused, glanceable experiences Pebble brought from our smartphones to our wrists established the core pillars of what good wearables should deliver.

Now, because of you, we’re introducing watches that best embody Pebble’s ethos and—with Pebble Core—an all-new wearable that will take the approach you’ve loved to the next level.

Kickstarter is for bringing creative projects to life with the help of those who most want to see them succeed. No matter what we make—now or in the future—anything bearing the Pebble name will deliver joyful moments that feel uniquely yours. It’s what we mean when we say “delightful, personal technology.” It’s how we roll. It’s what we stand for.

Thank you for standing with us.

Until next time,

Eric + Team Pebble

@Craig Rose - Thanks for sharing the answer! I just got an answer from Pebble directly as well. I would assume this means you need to purchase it unless Pebble decides to sell the plate itself later on. Thanks again! And for those who want Pebbles answer:

      Pebble Technology says:

      Hello John,

      Thanks for reaching out.

The Core will in fact require the special backing plate.

If you'd like to add the wireless charging pad for Core to your rewards, just add $20 to your pledge and we'll make sure to include it in your order.

To edit your pledge, go to

From there, click the "Change Your Pledge" button at the bottom of your tier summary. Next, increase the pledge amount by $20 and press Continue.

Please note: the "Pledge amount" field will override your current pledge, so make sure that you're putting in the full amount you'd like to pledge -- i.e. the price for the tier, plus shipping, plus $20 for the wireless charging pad.

      I hope that helps!

@John Wireless charging requires that addition of the special backplate. Once that's in place, any Qi comparable charging pad will charge the Core.

I am currently in for one PT2 at the early bird price of $169. However, the next couple of weeks are going to be tight, and I am looking to save some money in the short term.

If I lower my pledge to $79 for the Pebble Core, can I add on a PT2 later through the backer kit portal? If I do that, do I need to include the extra $169 as part of today's pledge or can I pay that at a later date (e.g. July)?

What is the minimum pledge amount to open up access to the backer portal? (e.g. do I have to pledge at least enough that I am eligible for a reward?)

Will current Qi wireless charge pads work with Core?

I had previously seen on that Pebble Core requires a special backing plate in order to work with the charging pad. IF that is the case, then currently owned wireless charging pads will not work.

      Please confirm! Thank you :)

      Pebble team,
If we add-on a watch to our pledges, do we need to factor shipping into the cost? I'd like to know how much I'm spending before getting a suprise backer kit bill.

    16. Chelsea on June 29, 2016

Luis, don't back for something you don't want. I would recommend switching your pledge to the $229 level for a Pebble Core and a Pebble Time 2, and then adding on the Pebble Round.

I pledged for ONE Pebble Time 2, ONE Pebble 2 and ONE Pebble Core.
But instead of the Pebble 2, what I really want is Time Round, if I add 100$ to my pledge, can I swap Pebble 2 for a Time Round?

    18. Gerald G on June 29, 2016

just noticed this image from the main campaign page:

so far it's the only one i've seen where the _corner radius_ of the time 2 display is a tad bigger (almost a tiny-tad to large) than what the current pebble time looks - any other image of the time2 shows just the bigger display, but with the same corner radius than the time (1) one.

this would imo be a _very_ good idea because of the notably smaller black framing, the display corners of the time 2 look a bit perky (imo) (also given the slight overall curved design of the watch frame).

so... which one is actually going to happen?

    19. Dennis Christian on June 29, 2016

Is there any additional shipping cost for the add ons?

    20. Mathieu Arnold
      on June 29, 2016

So the pebble time 2 will only have bland colors, there will be no red or blue or green, it's a bit sad and disappointing, I love my red pebble time. (Yes, I've read that it's more of a pebble time steel 2, I just don't understand why the no colors for metal thingie.)

For the charging pad or ANY Pebble add-on, you can add to your pledge now or add/pay for it later when you receive access to your Pebble BackerKit.

We will make it very easy to add items as you see fit to your official selected reward. Plenty of time to make sure your order is as complete as possible.

    23. Marsha Tyszler
      on June 29, 2016

@Pebble, damn! My conspiracy theory had been squashed! I so wanted it to be true! Lol!

@Mikhail, the payment must be collected at once from a single credit/debit card. However, if you need a few more days to buy time and gather the money because there isn't enough funds on your card, Kickstarter gives you 7 days to retry on the same card or use a new card. They send a notification email to inform people when their card doesn't work for various reasons (i.e., it's expired, not enough funds, etc.). As long as you resubmit the pledge within the given time/date on that email, you'll be okay. Otherwise, your pledge will automatically get dropped and the campaign won't receive any money from you. If you need more time, something must be "wrong" to prevent the charge of your entire pledge from being processed by Kickstater.

Alternatively, you can also lower your pledge substantially (even to $1) and add-on your rewards when Pebble sends out their backer surveys via BackerKit. The BackerKit website lets backers add an items from the campaign to their orders after the campaign is over. Pebble has said that any items purchased as add-ons will be charged the Early Bird prices.

If you don't currently have Early Bird perks, I'd suggest using the second option to make your life easier. If you have a Super Early Bird item and don't want to lose that extra bit of savings, then plan to have your credit card fail when the campaign ends in less than 24 hours, and then recharge it using the email I mentioned above within a week's time.

      Hope this helps!

Not sure if this the place to ask, and this is my first pledge for any Kickstarter campaign.

For the perk I chose, when the payment starts getting collected after the campaign ends, do I need the full amount available to be collected right away to get the perk, or can I just pay some of the needed amount for now and then the rest maybe a week later?

    28. Marsha Tyszler
      on June 29, 2016

@all, that's SO funny because I also noticed that photo of a Pebble 2 with color screen. In fact, I even went from my iPhone to my laptop to have a closer look! It looks like it's in a prototype case for reviewing, so I bet the company decided to test it out to see how it affects the battery life, etc. And I'm pretty sure Pebble put that there to make us guess and drive us batty -- maybe to start conversations like this and lead to some last minute add-ons to our pledges just in case it happens, lol.

I sure hope color will come to Pebble 2 because I'd so get one of those as well. I'm sure my Pebble Time 2 would still have a higher contrast, sharper screen -- but I'd be fine with that tradeoff so that I can wear a less expensive model at times and still have access to color, which is easier for me to see. I know that many people still would prefer the black and white e-ink screen, so I'm guessing that the company will let people choose (assuming they release it).

@Kevin Osbourne, I initially had the same reaction. They used last year's tech with "higher end" materials and jacked up the price. I honestly don't know why Pebble opted not to update the Round model -- it's a bit weird. Unless there isn't updated tech to accommodate the round watch face, which I highly doubt.

I can only guess that maybe they have tons of Round editions that aren't selling since the other models are more popular, so maybe they are trying to upgrade the look of the stock they have on hand to see if more "distinguished" people will bite (akin to iWatch Edition -- sorta, lol). Of course this is purely my own speculation, but I'm grasping at straws to make sense of it, lol.

Honestly, had they updated the Round now and made it with Time 2's specs (even its battery life -- I'm cool with a fatter watch), I would have chosen round over square. Guess we will have to see if they update it next year! But I definitely agree with you that it's weird.

    29. J on June 29, 2016

Strange that the Pebble 2 has a color screen in this update. Hmm...

    30. Kevin D. Osborne on June 29, 2016

$200 for the PTR is insane. Last years model, pre-ordering months ahead, at absolutely no discount? Sorry but no. I think it would’ve generated a lot more excitement had you priced it somewhere that was actually a “deal.” :(
