Acoustic folk duo, Zej & Calen, are recording their first full-length album at Hyde Street Studio C in San Francisco this March.
We're Zej & Calen - two singer songwriter friends playing as an indie folk duo in San Francisco. After two years of playing and writing songs together, we are finally ready to record our first full-length album together this March!
We'll be recording with Scott McDowell at Hyde St. Studio C in San Francisco. We're super excited to be working with him at this historic studio. It's going to be an acoustically driven record, in a genre we like to call "indie folk". And we'll be backed up in the studio by drums, upright bass, cello, piano, electric guitar, didgeridoo and whatever else we can get our hands on.
The recording, mixing, mastering and production of the album will cost about $8,000 and will be almost entirely funded by friends, family and fans like you. We need to reach our goal by the end of the campaign in order for any of the donations to go through, according to Kickstarter's all or nothing model.
If you're able to help, there are a number of rewards you can check out along the right side of the screen. Have a look and see if something looks exciting to you. And please help us spread the word to your friends and networks through Facebook, email, carrier pigeon...whatever works. Your sharing this page will make all the difference for our campaign!
THANK YOU for your support!!! We couldn't do it without you!!
Here's some more about each of us to help you get to know us a little better.
"Although I've been playing music for most of my life in one form or another (clarinet, piano, guitar...), I've kept a lot of it to myself. Recording this album is a huge life goal and milestone for me to professionally capture some of the musical ideas I've had and share them with the world. Music is a core part of my life and gives me a way to explore ideas, communicate, and share thoughts and feelings with the world that are difficult in other forums. Working with Zej has not only been a fun process musically, it's also forced us both to get to the root of what our songs are about, process them together and push ourselves to express the ideas in the most poetic way possible, which I've really appreciated."
"In my life, music has played a significant role in reaffirming my values. The emotional content and power of music have often convinced me where the "facts" have not moved me. One artist I hold dear is the Scottish singer-songwriter, Dougie MacLean. His impassioned songs about nature and the land have helped me connect to my core and walk a path that holds heart and meaning. My hope is that one day my music will do the same for others. Some of the songs on the record are a response to what we are doing to the earth, and represent my own attempt to connect to the spiritual aspects of who I am as a conservationist."
