In case you missed it last time, here’s the video we did for the first Before the Bright Lights Kickstarter:
After two years of hard work and dedication I am thrilled to be at the final stages of completion for my first full-length studio album, Before the Bright Lights. When I first started writing songs, I never imagined a day would come where I would be offered this opportunity.
Because the Nehemiah Foundation has agreed to eat all the tracking, mixing, and administrative costs for my record, all I need to do is raise enough to pay for mastering, replication, and Kickstarter reward merchandise! I know we can do this with your generous help.
The Songs on Before the Bright Lights
I’ve always loved songs that told a story with a deeper meaning, so from the start I was very intentional about the ones that I chose for this album. My desire is to transport the listener back to a time before everything was “lit” up, before television, smart phones, and flickering screens—before the bright lights of life became a constant distraction from meditation and communion. I wanted to give you a reason to slow down and enjoy the moments—by yourself or with your friends.
Some of these songs were included on my live record, Parables, but none of them have ever been given the full studio treatment. You can hear the difference for yourself by tuning in to these unmastered preview tracks:
My prayer is that as you listen to this album you’ll be encouraged and blessed.
Lastly, to you, the Kickstarter Backer: I want to thank you for your support and interest in this project. Your belief in this project means the world to me and I am amazed at the opportunity I have been given. Without your support this album would not be possible. Know that I am grateful to each and everyone of you, and I pray this album blesses you continually for years to come.
Risks and challenges
Our main hurdle is to complete funding for this project, which came up short on its first try. Nonetheless, our funding goal this time is less than what you pledged to the last Kickstarter—over $3,000 less! So we’re optimistic about the outcome.
Beyond that, the main obstacles for this project will come in the mastering and duplication stage, as tracking and mixing is essentially done. The mastering engineer has already returned the final masters, with which we are very pleased.
The duplication will be through CD Baby, whom we have used several times. We don't expect many hang-ups from that end.
Besides that, it comes down to a prompt packaging and shipping on our end. If we are diligent, we should be able to supply the rewards by (or before!) the stated due-date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
