Before the Bright Lights, by Anthony Quails
I'm recording my first full-length studio album, with stories and tones rooted deeply in Americana tradition. Will you help me?
UPDATE #5: Having Acres of Faith in the Last Hours of this Campaign...
We’re in the twilight of this campaign. The Kickstarter clock is down to hours now, and we’re not even halfway there. Could this fail? Yes. But it could also succeed. And if you’re praying for rain, it’s best to wear your raincoat. Here’s a song I wrote about just that:
Also, for your listening pleasure, I’ve released the unmastered studio version of “Back Where You Belong.” I wrote this song as an updated version of the Hosea/Gomer story from the Bible—it’s about the kind of enduring love that can overcome our weaknesses and failures.
If you remember, in my last update video, I played an acoustic version of “Back Where You Belong.” I really enjoy playing this song solo, but the studio version of the track really confirms for me that I made the right decision to take these songs into the studio. There is a dimension, texture, and feel in the studio version that gives you a whole other angle on the song. I hope you enjoy it:
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support thus far. Keep sharing the Kickstarter around and telling your friends. We still have a day or so to pray this thing home!
UPDATE #4: Fund my song Back Where You Belong!
UPDATE #3: Fund City of Bridges!
UPDATE #2: Hear Ye! Hear Ye! A New Preview Track: “Life is a Sea”!
We’re releasing the second unmastered track from Before the Bright Lights. This one, “Life is a Sea,” is a seafaring parable about me and my Cap’n. Enjoy!
We have a little less than $8,000 left to raise with eleven days to go! Can we do it? With your help, yes we can! Make sure to keep sharing this Kickstarter with friends and family. Thank you all so much for your generous support!
UPDATE #1: Full Unmastered Preview of “When There’s a Mountain”!
Thank you all for starting off this Kickstarter right! We’ve already broken the $2,000 mark within the first week, and that is entirely thanks to all of your generous support.
We’ve still got a few weeks left to reach our goal, but in the meantime, I wanted to share an unmastered track from the album to showcase the stellar work that’s already been done on it. This track is called “When There’s a Mountain”:
I hope you’re as pleased with this recording as I am! Please continue to share the Kickstarter around with your friends and family. Let’s see if we can keep this momentum going!
When I first started writing songs, I never imagined a day would come where I would be offered this opportunity. After two years of hard work and dedication I am thrilled to be at the final stages of completion for my first full length studio production, Before the Bright Lights.
I’ve always loved songs that told a story with a deeper meaning, so from the start I was very intentional about the ones that I chose for this album. My desire is to transport the listener back to a time before everything was “lit” up, before television, smart phones and before the bright lights of life became distracting. I wanted to give you a reason to slow down and enjoy the moment.
My prayer is that as you listen to this album you’ll be encouraged and blessed. Lastly, to you the Kickstarter Backer: I want to thank you for your support and interest in this project. Your belief in this project means the world to me and I am amazed at the opportunity I have been given. Without YOUR support this album would not be possible. Know that I am grateful to each and everyone of you and I pray this album blesses you continually for years to come.
What is the $11,000 for?
Every penny of this kickstarter will go toward making this album a reality. That includes paying for the studio time, session musicians, mixing, mastering, producers, making CDs, online hosting (for iTunes, Spotify, etc.), and more!
Why give now instead of later?
By donating to this kickstarter, you're not just purchasing my music, you are supporting my music. You are helping cover the costs of making it. And by being a patron, you free me up to make the album I've always wanted to make. Plus, by giving here, you get to sign up for some pretty sweet rewards. It's a win-win!
Risks and challenges
The main obstacles for this project will come in the mastering and duplication stage, as tracking and mixing is essentially done. The mastering engineer is already lined up, and has done a sample track, with which we have been very pleased.
The duplication will be through CD Baby, whom we have used several times. We don't expect many hang-ups from that end.
Besides that, it comes down to a prompt packaging and shipping on our end. If we are diligent, we should be able to supply the rewards by (or before!) the given due-date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
