Welcome to the second Brandi Bare Kickstarter. If you took part in issue 3's Kickstarter, thanks for returning! If this is the first time you're being introduced to the world of Brandi Bare I hope you'll enjoy your time here. (Earlier issues/pdf's are available so you can get caught up in no time!)
10-25 New Stretch Goal #5 Art Added
(New updates will have new info/art posted at bottom of page!)
10-24 New Stretch Goal #4 Art Added
10-21 New Art Added from Stretch Goal #2 (Art of Brandi Bare)
I'm Joe Pekar and if you're not familiar with my work, I've done covers for Zenescope and Boom! Studios over the years and plenty of sketch cards from licensed properties, such as Marvel and DC comics. I've also worked within the video game industry for companies like Activision and Nintendo. Brandi Bare is the only comic series that I've done all the full color art for, from covers to finished pages.
Brandi Bare Issue #4 is a 40 page comic book about Brandi and her college roommates and the light hearted adventures they get into. In this issue the girls are going to the comic con that they created costumes for in issue #3. Of course getting there is never as easy as it seems.
PDF files of issues 1-3 can be ordered from me now (or anytime during the campaign) for immediate download (via email). Just email me at email@example.com and I'll let you know how to take care of that ($5 each or $15 for all 3)
I should mention that there is NO actual nudity in the book. It may be a bit risque at times, but always good natured and fun...basically like a sexy sitcom on tv.
Brandi Bare is a comic book series created by Joe Pekar (art/story) and Jeff Outlaw (story/lettering). We've been working on these characters for years now, but creating the comics takes a lot of time and effort. I create all the art work, from pencils to digital colors and that alone takes a huge chunk of time. It took me a few years to produce all the art of issues #1 and #2 (working on pages alongside other commercial work) . However, with the funding of the Kickstarter for issue #3, I was able to focus all of my time on issue #3 and I fully finished the art (38 pages) in a little over 2 months. The rest of the time was spent on stretch goals and original artwork rewards.
Issue 4 directly follows Issue 3's story, but we've also made it so issue 4 is a great jumping on point for new readers. (You can also add issues 1-3 to your rewards if you'd like)
Here's a sample of some of the pages that are already finished (non-lettered) for issue #4. A bit of a dream sequence and some of the costume fun from the issue.
If you're new to the Brandi Bare universe, here's a few pages from earlier issues....
And here's the covers from issues 1-3 (including the Kickstarter only edition of #3)
And here's a look at the Kickstarter Exclusive cover. The only place to get this cover is thru this campaign. The original watercolor painting on 12"x16" watercolor paper and the final cover below it.
Stretch goals will be revealed if we're lucky enough to cross the funding mark. Possible Stretch Goals may include an Art of Brandi Bare comic, new postcards and prints (just because they were fun to create for the last kickstarter). Issue 3 had a stretch goal we reached for an additional 8 page back up story. That story will be continued in issue 4 (it won't be a stretch goal anymore though, it's part of issue #4 no matter what now. I think it's only fair to continue the story that way. :))
What I'm looking to do with this Kickstarter is to raise enough money that I can focus all of my time on finishing up the 4th issue (and putting aside other commercial work) and getting it printed. Everyone will either receive digital PDF's of the issue(s) or printed versions in addition to the different rewards that I'll be providing.
Copies of the comic book (and earlier issues).
Be in the book!
Original art! Sketches! paintings! and a lot more...

The first stretch goal will be a set of 4 over-sized postcards (approx 8"x5") featuring Brandi, Dylan, Xian and Rosie in their 'Free Time'. Basically what they do on their own time when not all crammed in their dorm room. :)
Everyone that's getting a physical reward mailed to them will get the set of 4 postcards included in their package at no extra cost. But don't worry if you only pledged for digital rewards, you'll still get the cards, just in a PDF file (in fact everyone will get the postcards as a PDF).
(sketches of the postcards will be shown in Kickstarter updates and finished pieces will be posted here on the page)
Next Stretch Goal will be at 8,500
Risks and challenges
This is my second Kickstarter and I feel I learned quite a bit from the first one. I've found that communication is the most important part of running a Kickstarter. I responded quickly to each and every message, comment, or question I received.
I've been a working artist for over 15 years now so getting the actual artwork done on deadline isn't a problem for me. The one hiccup with the first kickstarter was in my judging how long it would take to mail everything out. Just the simple fact of packaging and mailing out all the individual comics/art/etc took a bit longer than I anticipated. (95% of the rewards were sent out on time or ahead of schedule. The last few were all finished up about 2 weeks behind schedule.) As the mailing process went on I was able to refine the process (with helpful comments from the backers that I took into account). However, I added another month to the ship dates as a buffer just in case. I do expect to have everything finished and mailed out prior to the April shipping date.
The only other possible problem I could run into is when the book is printing (as then it's out of my hands). I'm using the same printer as last time and there were no problems at all, so I'm not anticipating any this time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
