* 3/24 NEW STRETCH GOAL ACHIEVED * info in latest update! *
*Earlier stretch goal info listed at bottom of this page*
I'm Joe Pekar and if you're not familiar with my work, I've drawn comic book covers and pinups for Zenescope (Grimm Fairy Tales, etc.), I've also had a book of my pinup art published by SQP, inc. and I've drawn plenty of sketch cards from licensed properties, such as Marvel and DC comics in between. I've also worked within the video game industry for companies like Activision and Nintendo.
This is my fourth Kickstarter campaign, and third to involve The Brandi Bare series. A series which I've co-created, co-written and drawn, along with co-creator/co-writer Jeff Outlaw, for 4 issues now. (There was also a Kickstarter funded novel written by Jeff set in the Brandi Bare universe 'Holly', with some artwork by myself.)
In this first issue of a new mini-series, Brandi and her friends are out camping as part of a school project (gotta get those college credits!). We'll find out a bit more about one of the faculty from the college that's been teased about in earlier issues, and the part she plays in the overall story. There'll be some other returning characters as well, like Brandi's Dad, their 'friend' Alice, and Bear. I hope you all will enjoy reading their adventures as much as Jeff and I enjoy creating them!
Digital versions of all 4 previous Brandi Bare comics can be purchased on Comixology.com. (https://www.comixology.com/Brandi-Bare/comics-series/14592) (as well as our other series Hopeful Spring - https://www.comixology.com/Hopeful-Spring-1/digital-comic/167536)
Print copies of issues 1-4 can be added to any pledge for $25. Issues 1-2 are $5 each (24 pages), issues 3-4 are $7.50 (they're 40 pages each).
*I've mentioned this on past Brandi Bare kickstarters, but I just wanted to reiterate that there is NO actual nudity in the Brandi Bare books. It may be a bit risque at times, but always good natured and fun...basically like a sexy sitcom on tv.*
Here is a peek at some of the already fully finished pages (minus lettering).
The issue has already been written, and is shaping up to be around 24 pages. Like with my past kickstarter campaigns there will be two covers for the issue, with one exclusive only to kickstarter backers.
Here's the regular cover (digitally colored/Original pencil art):
and a close up of the pencils:
And a photo of the painting being used for the Kickstarter exclusive cover:
and photos of some of the original art pages that will be available as rewards:
For the first time I'll be creating all the original artwork for the comic using col-erase pencils (instead of the usual graphite). I've done most of my sketching over the years using red and/or blue col-erase pencils and I've always wanted to draw comic pages with them. (A bit more time consuming, but more vibrant than just regular gray pencil.)
Well, what I'm looking to do with Kickstarter is to raise enough money that I can focus all of my time on finishing up the art for the issue (and putting aside other commercial work) and getting it printed. Without Kickstarter, it took me years to complete a single issue. With Kickstarter, I've been able to finish a fully colored issue in about 2 months (and then work on the art rewards after that). Everyone will either receive digital PDF's of the issue (via email/download) or printed versions in addition to the different rewards that I'll be providing.
Copies of the comic book!
Original art! Sketch cards, drawings, paintings, and a lot more...
Here are a few photos of some of the rewards I created for my last Kickstarter 'Hopeful Spring':
And here's a look at many of the rewards all together before they were mailed out!
I created well over 100 individual art rewards for my last Kickstarter (and met our shipping goal) and I shared photos with all the backers during the campaign. I post weekly updates every Wednesday all thru the life of the project so all the backers can see how it's progressing. I'll show teaser images from the actual comic as I'm finishing it up...without giving away too much of the story :).

Risks and challenges
This is my fourth Kickstarter campaign and each time has been a new learning experience. As always, communication with backers is the single most important issue in a campaign and that's one part I really enjoy. I send out frequent updates about the progress of the book's creation and I'm always around to answer questions.
One of the challenges from the last Kickstarter was the number of art rewards I needed to create. I've changed a few of the art rewards this time, to hopefully streamline the process a bit. But there will still be plenty of reward levels to choose from!
Now that Kickstarter allows the shipping costs to be more targeted to specific locations, the rewards on the main page do not factor in shipping since it can vary widely. (Once you select a reward level, it will give a breakdown on shipping per location.) Shipping to US locations is usually priority mail. International shipping is First-Class international via the US post office. If insurance or a different service is requested, just let me know and I can give a quote on differing shipping costs.
The only other possible problem I could run into is when the book is printing (as then it's out of my hands). I'm using the same printer as I have in the past and there were no problems at all on the last three campaigns, so I'm not anticipating any this time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
