About this project
If you missed the campaign, come see us on: www.bluffworks.com
It didn't seem like a lot to ask -
We wanted an ultra wrinkle-free chino that feels like cotton, but has advanced technical characteristics like lots of stretch.
And we wanted it to never wrinkle. Like ever.
This is hard to do, because adding technical features usually makes pants look and feel technical.
But the status quo wasn't good enough for us. So we worked on the chino for two years, and finally had a breakthrough.
Introducing the Bluff Works Chino -
Soft, stretchy wrinkle-free. Made of material that feels like the finest chino.
Fast drying and easy-care that will blow you away.
This pant will replace three in your drawer.
Because we bet you have better things to do than care for your pants...
The Chino includes the same proven travel features we build into our existing travel pants sold on bluffworks.com.
We offer the Chino in Khaki, Steel Blue, and Harvest Gold.
A little history: in our first Kickstarter project, you told us we needed to offer a darker color. So the Charcoal was born. And guess what, it became our best seller.
So we'd love to hear what other colors you'd like to see next.
How wrinkle-free are the Chinos? Really wrinkle-free.
You can easily pull them out of a jam-packed washing machine and wear without drying.
You can also do crazy stuff -
After we took the above picture, I left them SOAKING WET in a plastic bag for six hours. I eventually line dried them, and they were good to go. No wrinkles.
Or, you can wash them in a fountain and go to work, like this -
Good luck being able to wrinkle them!
You guys, our customers told us that in addition to the Bluffs we currently sell on bluffworks.com, you wanted something more casual that was soft with a bit of stretch.
So we put our heart and soul into it, and frankly, we're stunned by the results.
Having two products is about choice. It's not that one pant is better than the other. It's that they're both great options, with slightly different appearance and capabilities.
Regardless which of our pants you wear, it's our belief that your pants should be the least of your worries. We want to equip you with clothing that propels whatever your passion is and makes you feel great, both at home and on the road.
We proudly make our pants on 39th st in New York City. This happens to be the same street where my grandfather was a garment cutter 80 years ago.
Our fabric is woven in South Korea using processes that meet OEKO-TEX standards for weaving and dying.
We've put as much in place as we can to deliver your pants as soon as possible.
The general schedule is:
Procure Materials - The first batch has already landed in NYC.
Production - First 1,250 pairs to be complete mid-September.
Fulfillment - Could be as early as late September, but we have committed to October in order to properly set expectations.
We'll keep you posted with updates and are happy to answer any questions along the way.
I'm Stefan Loble, the founder of Bluff Works, and here's a timeline to explain more about me:
Early Years - For as long as I can remember I've had a taste for adventure and big challenges. Things like the 27 Adventures I took on Before Becomming an Entrepreneur - http://ow.ly/OBtWu.
Became Miserable - But at the same time the Financial Crisis of 2008 struck, my job went from great to miserable. With so many good people out of work, I felt trapped in my job to cover the high cost of having a family in NYC.
During this time I found Kickstarter, and became passionate about supporting other people's dreams and launching my own. To date, I've backed over 150 projects on Kickstarter. Many for the full reward, and others with small tokens of support. You can see them at: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/594084262.
Rather be in this spot again, I vowed to finally pursue my dream and began working on Bluff Works.
(Once it was over, I wrote an honest LinkedIn profile, telling the full story of my career at: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stefanloble )
First Kickstarter - I launched my first kickstarter project in 2012, and it was a great success.
- Here's the project - http://kck.st/JE6dpX.
- And here's the night I launched it: https://youtu.be/pdxWBGIoB4s.
Stuck With My Day Job - As well as my first Kickstarter campaign went, I wasn't out of the woods yet. Getting a company off the ground takes a lot of resources. So I kept my software job for three years while running Bluff at the same time.
I finally left my job this past January to focus on Bluff Works full time. Here's the whole story behind the day I resigned: http://ow.ly/OQUzq.
And the video:
Our company still needs to grow in order for us to survive long term. For that reason, we are extra grateful for your support!

Risks and challenges
We've made pants before. In fact, we're making them every day right now. It's only the Chino style that is new.
But as every project has risk, here's an unsweetened rundown of what could possibly go wrong, and why you can trust us to come through for you:
MATERIALS - Low risk. Enough fabric for the first delivery has already arrived in NYC. The pants you see in our photos and video were made using "top cuts" of the actual production run,so barring disaster, our materials should be fine.
We have already placed a second material order to be in position to fulfill higher demand.
SEWING - Very low risk. We sew thousands of pairs per month now, so if we have materials, we can sew. If you find a defect in your individual pair we'll replace them.
YOU DONT LIKE THEM - It depends. We'll be happy to exchange your pair for a different color or size Chino from this campaign. If you don't like them, we'll do our best to help, but we won't offer refunds on Kickstarter items. This is partly because it erodes the spirit of Kickstarter, an important tool for us and smaller brands. It's also because this is a fair trade for getting the pants early and at a discounted rate. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions on this before ordering.
FULFILLMENT - Low risk. Our distribution network is in place, shipping pants all over the world today.
We're serious about taking good care of our backers. Our first Kickstarter campaign went well, and we plan to apply the lessons of that one here.
