Remember the sound of the movie projector in your childhood classroom? We're bringing back nostalgic films in a community setting.

We are using Kickstarter to implement a Friday Movie night in our community. We have purchased the 16mm projector and invested in some films to play focusing on the Sciences and Math. We want to host movie nights on a regular basis (10 screenings per season) and bring together families and folks on our rural island. We will invest the money in more films and a proper screen, seating and a healthy snack bar and encourage live performance as well. We would like to have a portable screen to bring the experience of reel to reel film to a variety of venues. We operate as a Creative Arts Program already and see this as a new method to give the kids enriching and educational experience. Movie night can easily mesh with the other performing arts we mentor and support. We plan to use recycled and found objects and materials to finish an upstairs public area in our Luthier woodworking shop as a viewing area. This will include comfortable seating, a screen and dark curtains and a concession area. We will use the money to acquire a larger library of primarily educational and historical films. We are beginning our first Fall Movie Night Season this September 23rd and will enlist the first comers in helping us set up and giving us feedback as we pull it all together making it a collaborative experience. To further that end we will keep all levels of supporters abreast of our progress and offer access to  behind the scene commentary. We will submit film suggestions and listen to how you think we should grow and develop this idea as we build it into a part of our business.Currently our film library consists of these titles and more, we would use some of the proceeds to expand it and add some full length films:

FAQ

  • We plan on installing outdoor lighting to the shop and railings on the outside deck to begin with and assume that this will take up about half our funds. The rest of the funds will be split between adding more films to our library, buying a screen and a popcorn machine.
