Did you miss the campaign? That's ok, you can still check out Coin & Crown and pre-order at the Escape Velocity Games website.
THANK YOU for your support!
Stretch goals will be revealed as the game funds and goals are achieved. We're going to have some stretch goals based on backer count and some will be based on total funding.
If there are stretch goals you'd like to see, please comment on the campaign!
In Coin & Crown, you and up to three opponents (or play solo) compete to control an ancient civilization, vying for power as you build up your troops and resources to conquer and cultivate as many lands as possible.
Each turn, you will draw coins from your coin purse for income, which can be spent as you see fit. What will you do with your limited wealth? Buy new resources? Harvest existing ones? Recruit new troops? Construct buildings to improve productivity? Donate to the church? Enhance your coin draw by exchanging with the Imperial Mint? Reserve money for next year?
It will take careful planning to grow your army and advance your empire! Every decision you make will help toward gaining victory points, with the winner being the player who has the most points by game end. Use your coins wisely to claim the crown!
Each round, players will draw 4 coins from their bag and then take turns deciding how to spend them. On your turn, you will choose from one of three actions:
In order to reign, you must conquer lands, which earn you points! The more lands you conquer, the more points you’ll earn. Lands can be conquered by force using your army or by diplomacy using your coins.
For each land you own, you have the opportunity to upgrade it to an even greater land! But to do so, you’ll need to dedicate resources (wheat, sheep, lumber, ore). In the above example, this hamlet needs ore and wheat to upgrade to a village. To upgrade it to a town, you will need two wheat and one lumber.
Of course, to do all this conquering and upgrading, you will need some cards from the market. You can purchase a card from the market by using the coins drawn at the beginning of the round.
For a more comprehensive overview, check out the video below by Steven Aramini, one of the designers for Coin & Crown:
Still not enough? Well, we've got you covered. Download and read the full rulebook here.
*Please note that the rulebook currently includes some cards that will be featured as stretch goals (we will update the rulebook after the campaign to include all the stretch goals).
"Very pure, very elegant... There's a lot going on, it's solid, it's fun, it's very easy to explain... It's really sharp, I'm very very impressed by it!" - Richard Ham, Rahdo Runs Through

Escape Velocity Games is an independent game publisher based in Baltimore, MD run by Steven Cole. Steven is the producer on this project and is most likely the one you will hear from if you send any questions or comments, which are quite welcome!
Coin & Crown was designed by Steven Aramini (designer of Barker's Row, Yardmaster, Groves, and Circle the Wagons) and Janice Baker, who also did the amazing graphic design work. Steven is a 2014 Ion Award Winner, as well as winner of two Game Crafter design challenges (Coin & Crown was the winner of one of them) and the Button Shy Wallet Contest.
Risks and challenges
Every project comes with its own risks and challenges, and this one will be no different. The final touches for manufacturing could be delayed, production could be slower than expected, errors could be found in pre-production proofs, or any number of things could happen to introduce a delay.
On a positive note, the game design, illustrations, graphic design, and playtesting are all complete. We're partnering with a proven manufacture, and this is Escape Velocity Games' fifth Kickstarter project. Our four previous projects have all been delivered to satisfied backers.
