The transcontinental railroad was going to bridge the East to the West and usher in a new age of prosperity along the frontier. But something's gone wrong. A crew of rail workers has disappeared, and settlements along the line are falling silent. The railroad hires Nathanial Holden and Ezekiel Grey to search for answers. What they find instead is a trail of bodies and a quiet town on the verge of annihilation.
"The dead will find no rest here..."
Frontier Graveyard: The Risen is the first graphic novel in a new horror\western series. The series’ formula is a cross between X-files and John Wayne, though this volume is more Night of the Living Dead meets Clint Eastwood meets Frankenstein. The Risen focuses on zombies terrorizing the frontier. In future stories we will expand the universe to include werewolves, vampires, and many other monsters, but first we need to get this book to press; that’s where you come in.
A story with a twist. As a former film student, our writer incorporates many classical western and zombie themes into this volume. However, The Risen isn't just another zombies vs. cowboys story. The origins behind the outbreak have a hint of steam punk, and one of the main characters is a... samurai? Yep, that's right.
Why Kickstarter (or crowd funding in general, for that matter)? Well, like most people here, we need your help. After much research, we have determined the best way to handle a brand new creator-owned project is to print it ourselves as a graphic novel. We have found a quality printer that can provide us with a reasonable rate for a single run (ranging between 500-1000 copies). But we need approximately $3000 to fill the order. What we are asking for is only the money necessary to cover the print cost. Our goal does not count costs of promotion or for our own time. However, as long as we can make our print costs, we’ll be able to handle the rest ourselves... though admittedly the more we raise, the more we can do in terms of promotions. So we’d love it if you’d help us with that as well, but we’ll make do if we can just reach the goal.
We’ve provided a wide variety of incentives all geared toward the product itself. In addition to the full graphic novel, we are also commissioning an alternative cover by veteran artist Bob McLeod, famous for helping to create the New Mutants. (See some of his work here). For those of you who might be interested, Bob will draw you onto the alternate cover as a cowboy (or cowgirl) zombie attacking our heroes. (Limited to five openings). This cover will only be available for a short, limited run, so get it while you can!
We also have original art pages available (such as the one above), and copies of our exclusive Chapter One preview printed for our first appearance at Wizard World in Austin. Each copy has a sketch of one of our characters (or a zombie) hand drawn on the back cover by our artist Profesone. See below for a couple of examples.
Risks and challenges
We've worked hard and planned carefully to keep the risks low. As mentioned in the video, we have everything ready except some of the colors for the last section of the book. We've also commissioned our artist for our alternative cover, but that won't be drawn until after the campaign completes. Otherwise, we're finished. We've even selected a company to print the graphic novel, received quotes, and estimated turnaround times.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
