SA VA - Help create our Wholesale Look Book and support us in creating jobs and bringing sustainable fashion across the nation.

Update: 8/1/11

We've reached out $1,000 mark thanks to all of your support, but with just 9 short days to go, we need your help spreading the word so we can bring ethical fashion across the nation!

Did you know?

That the apparel industry is the number one polluter of the environment in the world as a fact and very likely the number one social offender in the world in working conditions and wages paid.

Our Mission

At SA VA we are all about a comprehensive approach to social sustainability and spreading the word about new ways of thinking and things that are going right – things that in fact do work to change communities and people’s lives here in small towns and big cities across the U.S. and in every other local economy in the world.

If we can bring ethical fashion across the nation through our wholesale lookbook, we can create more local living wage jobs in Philadelphia and use only fair-trade fabrics, we are being socially conscious.  With the move from manufacturing in Bangladesh to Philadelphia, we reduced our carbon footprint in half by not shipping textiles and garments around the world.  Then when we make choices on fabrics, beyond the requirement to be fair-trade, if they can be sourced in the U.S., be organic, recycled or sustainable that is even better.

How you Can Help Spread the Word:

1. Tweet about it! We are @SA_VA on Twitter.  Here are some ideas that you can simply copy and paste, or make your own!

Update: 7/26/11

Our Spring Inspiration

We're feeling tied and twisted for Spring.  Some of the things we do best here at SA VA are draping, fit and dying fabric.  Here is some of our inspiration for Spring 2012.  Colors like poppy, sandstone, lilac and cerulean blue are some of our must haves for the season.  Watch the process and be a part of it!

The Concept

What if we could transform the fashion industry so that sustainable and ethical apparel was the norm? That you didn't have to choose fashion over the environment and welfare of those producing it?  At SA VA - we are trying to do just that.  Do you know how your garment got to you?

SA VA is a lifestyle apparel brand based on the philosophy of effortless, individual style and social consciousness.   For two years we have been selling our straightforward fashion  at our flagship retail store and we want to sell our Philadelphia Made, sustainable garments through independent retailers across the nation.   In order to do this, we need to create a Wholesale Look Book and we need your help.

The funds from our kickstarter will be used to design and make samples for our Spring 2012 Collection, Style and Shoot Professional Photographs, Design & Print our Wholesale Look Book to sell from.

Having the look book will enable us to go to market and sell our apparel to other retailers.  If we are able to sell more product, we are able to maintain and create additional manufacturing and sales jobs and provide U.S. made sustainable and socially conscious fashion to the rest of the country.

Some other things that you may want to know about us:  SA VA was just nominated Top Innovator by Apparel Magazine, we have had quite a few significant fashion press features and won Community Impact Awards.  We love to design beautiful, affordable fashion but we are also concerned with: How and by whom garments are made; What they are made with; How they are transported;  Our relationship with customers: and our impact on the community and environment.

About SA VA

SA VA is an ethical clothing and accessories brand that is built on the philosophy of effortless, individual style and social consciousness.  Based in Philadelphia, the brand is comprised of a flagship store and design studio at 1700 Sansom street, adjacent garment center and an on-line store and fashion community.  SA VA is locally made, globally inspired and community focused fashion.

We believe it is our responsibility to be socially responsible.  Ninety percent fo the garments sold at SA VA are made in our adjacent garment center always with fair-trade and often eco friendly materials.  Any products we are unable to make ourselves must have one element of sustainability, whether it is fair trade, locally made, organic, made in the U.S.A. or recycled.  Through local living wage job creation and community partnerships we are striving to create a new kind of fashion community.  To read more about our social mission click here.

  • We believe it is our responsibility to be socially responsible. Because our product is designed, manufactured and sold in Philadelphia, it reduces our carbon footprint and creates jobs, which supports the local economy. Unlike previous models of sustainable fashion that focus on the use organic textiles, low impact dyes or upcycling, we thought local first and look at sustainability as a comprehensive social sustainability. By expanding our brand and our mission, we will be able to duplicate this model on a national level.

  • We want to create a new kind of apparel company. It is our goal to not only become the most socially conscious clothing and accessories brand in the country but also for people to become conscious of where their clothing is coming from, who it is made by and what it is made from.

  • Ethical is a term used to describe a product that is both sustainable and socially conscious in nature. An ethical garment in our case means that it falls under one of more of the following categories: local made, fair trade, hand made, organic, all natural, made in the USA or recycled.

  • A lookbook is a series of styled images of a brand’s seasoned collection. They are distributed to buyers and retailers on a quarterly basis to show new products outfitted in the brand’s signature aesthetic. This imagery assists buyers in understanding the brand’s style and interpretation of the current season’s trends.

  • By developing a comprehensive wholesale line of specialty garments, we will be able to create a lookbook that retailers and buyers will want to sell. This will allow SA VA to grow and be available in retailers across the nation.
