About

About the game

Charlotte’s Dream is a classic point and click adventure game from the golden era of adventure games, remade for PC. The game is to be distributed through Steam, and is intended for Windows/Mac/Linux and iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch.

I started making the game when I was only 12 years old, on the classic Commodore Amiga. Sadly this was a daunting task that a mere 12 year old could not hope to complete. Now 20 years later I have decided to fulfill that childhood dream at long last. I salvaged all of the original game files, and started rebuilding the game from scratch. I touched up the graphics where needed, while staying true to the limited colors and the pixelated art style. The game mechanics and controls have been updated to modern standards, and the game now includes role playing elements that are uncommon for the genre. The game is strange, surreal and enchanting. It is my love letter to a genre that has almost been forgotten. It will be like opening a time capsule.

About the story

Charlotte's Dream is about a young girl named Charlotte, who barely escapes with her life after a tragic car accident. Haunted by guilt over the death of her brother, she becomes trapped in a dangerous and surreal dream world. The only escape from this place seems acceptance, and making peace with her darker self. She must face her deepest fears and uncover the truth that she has denied herself. But things are not always as simple as they seem, and the game takes a darker turn when Charlotte explores a far more intriguing question: Could it be that her brother is still alive?

What makes this game so different from other adventure games?

• Multiple solutions to puzzles. The game rewards common sense and player cleverness.

• No need for a walk through. The game gives you all the tools to find your own solution.

• Leveling system. Choose skills for your character to solve puzzles in new ways.

• Crafting. Create helpful tools to tackle some of the game’s more difficult puzzles.

• Time freeze mechanic. Stop time whenever you want.

• Traverse a gorgeously pixelated world map, to explore new areas of the dream world.

• A lot of replay value. Solve the puzzles in different ways on a 2nd or 3rd play through.

• Multiple endings!

• Female protagonist, along with a strong lengthy story, full of twists.

• Color blind friendly. Puzzles that rely on colors have a color blind option.

Risks and challenges

Charlotte's Dream is an ambitious game that I am developing all by myself. While a large amount of the game's environments have already been created, there is still a lot of content that needs to be created. I am however confident that I can complete this task, due to my years of experience as a professional game designer.
