MIND - The Fall of Paradise is a sci-fi boardgame in which one player becomes MIND, an all powerful A.I, and up to 3 other players take the roles of rebel leaders that do not approve with the decision of giving executive authority to an A.I over Lyanon, the 15th district of Earth. The Rebellion considers that it's unnatural for a creator to obey his creation.

Before the game starts players choose a scenario to play, distribute initial resources and populate the spaceships and colonies offered by the scenario with unique human citizens. MIND always starts the game by owning Lyanon, while the rebel leaders may start by owning different colonies and spaceships in the Solar System, or by owning nothing, and just being citizens of Lyanon themselves.

During the game all other 14 districts are at war one with each other and one by one are consumed by conflict and are removed from the game. Slowly but surely...Earth gets destroyed. But the game continues, as the goal for all players is to colonize the Solar System and make sure that mankind does not die with Earth's destruction. 

While both MIND and the leaders want to save mankind, MIND has a different approach, that is completely unaccepted by the Rebellion as it is considered "to be the end of man". During the game, MIND persuades citizens into agreeing to be linked to the Paradise, a special and mysterious place that he created, where people who enter get to live their dreams but never want to wake up. People, willingly, abandon reality, and thus, abandon hope. 

There are many games out there and maybe not enough money to get them all, or even, not enough time to play them all. So why should you consider backing this project in this sea of creativity that is present on Kickstarter? Well, let me present below the key points of MIND-The Fall of Paradise, and why this game may be the perfect game for you.

I wanted the game to have a global scale, where players explore the Solar System with great spaceships, plan their colonizing strategy and battle the enemy's fleet, but I also wanted players to get to have a personal engagement with the game and manage citizens with unique names and attributes and move them inside colonies and spaceships. You get to decide what structure to operate or what Citizen to attack, but also what moon to colonize and what spaceship to hijack.

Players manage citizens, equip them with powerful items, unlock researches and fight in colonial and space battles. They can also trade, bribe, steal, operate and perform many other actions. The game offers lots of different structures for players to build and use, and each structure has a different use, from extracting resources, healing wounded characters to defending colonies from sieges and many others. There are lots of different actions to do and many ways to achieve a win.

As a great sci-fi fan myself I did my best to add enough art and miniatures to the game so that players will feel an unique immersion in the story and the universe. While there are many things that players can do in MIND-The Fall of Paradise, they will always understand the global context and feel the relevance of their actions in the story of the game, not just as a forced mechanic unrelated to the theme. 

An important part of the game is revolving around conflict and this can occur in space, between fleets, and inside colonies, between citizens of the two sides. Space conflict can also end in boarding the enemy spaceship to fight the inside crew with your crew. Combat is a fun combination of different card play and dice rolling, all based on the values of the combat participants.

The game features two types of citizens, human and machine, and they all have a set of values for intelligence, power and durability. All machines are the same, while each human is unique, and even have names. This makes the game more personal as you learn, for example, that Charlie is stronger and that Nadira is smarter. Knowing your citizens is very important when assigning them the right orders. The Rebellion can equip its followers with powerful items, enhancing their basic attributes and making them stronger and more useful.

From single player to co-op, the scenarios create unique starting positions for players to begin the game with. Some scenarios may start with Earth more destroyed, the hope level may be a lot lower, the rebellion may own colonies and lots of rebels or MIND may get more Servers. Scenarios also make room for player driven missions as everyone can create scenarios that can lead to fun and challenging games. Also this makes room for lots of different scenarios to be released and for people to try.

Quantity is not in itself a good thing, it's more about how you use it. However, I must mention this fact as it is an awesome deal, this many different miniatures, cards and tokens at this price is something that might make you appreciate the content value you receive for the bucks you spend.

This is part of a great theme, but it also has gameplay implications, as Earth is on the edge of global war and conflicts affect the hope track for all human citizens, boosting or lowering their attribute values. Also, as one by one the districts go down in war, the destruction of Earth gets closer and the pressure on players gets higher, as they remain without time to build outer colonies and evacuate citizens. All this while the Rebellion and MIND are at war themselves and try to sabotage and destroy each other. I also plan to expand the story and create a beautiful universe for interested people. 

This section provides you with more information about what you get if you want to pledge for a copy of MIND-The Fall of Paradise. Note that this is a very advanced prototype version, but there might be changes made once we start production with Panda and problems may need solving.

Thinking of waiting for the game to just come out next year, or maybe you are not yet convinced about why you should back now? Below are presented some key points:

Also, by backing, we all engage in a group effort to make this game even better by unlocking stretch goals that not only let you add extra components but will add new things to the base game.
  • eXclusive Delivery: backers will receive the game first, so this is the fastest way of getting MIND-The Fall of Paradise.
  • Kickstarter or no Starter: well, it's simple to explain that if the game is not funded there will be no game in stores. I am not a company, just a man with a dream and a prototype. You are the ones that can make this happen and the best way to make sure that you get a copy of the box is to back now as there may be no later.

I am eager to give you all what I have prepared but we need to start slow and also make sure we achieve our funding goal first. So, for the time being, you can pledge only for REBEL FIGHTER and BUNDLE levels.

All stretch goals will fall into one of the following categories: 

  • CONTENT- This will add new elements to all copies of the game;
  • ADD-ON - This will let backers add more CONTENT to the game;
  • EXCLUSIVE. - This will let backers receive unique elements;

By leveling up the Kickstarter track, the Backer track and the Facebook track, we will unlock new stretch goals. With this campaign all add-ons represent EXTRA content, not NEW content.

By becoming a REBEL FIGHTER you also receive the DIGITAL FAN level. On top of the above, the following items have been added to the box by unlocking stretch goals, and more are to come:

Level 3 Backers - You can now increase your Ability deck with these 3 new unique card packs that each have 10 new cards inside. Each card pack costs £3 and is completely different. If you add even a single pack to your game box you receive one new and exclusive Power card.

The Power Deck  

Each stretch goal we reach will also unlock a brand new card that will be added to the Power Deck, which is exclusive to this Kickstarter project. By unlocking stretch goals and adding content to the main game we also add these new, unique and exclusive cards to the game.

Note that this deck is an optional aspect of the game, but the more cards we unlock, the more extra options players will have.

Below you can check out what Power cards have been unlocked so far. This sheet will get updated with each new card that we unlock. 

The stretch goals for this campaign are distributed between 3 different tracks. As we gain funding, backers and likes/shares we will unlock new stretch goals. Please like the Facebook page only if you really like it, I don't want anyone to feel forced.

Remember that each unlocked stretch goal falls into one of the following categories: CONTENT, ADD-ON and EXCLUSIVE.

Level 1 Funding - The Working Station is a new colonial structure that allows players to build other structures faster when operated, at the cost of intelligence. By unlocking this level each game copy is upgraded with 2 miniatures, 2 research cards, 2 build tokens and a special and exclusive Power card

Level 1 Backers - The Lunar special colony board features a new type of layout on each side and players can use it when colonizing the Solar System. By unlocking this level each game copy is upgraded with one double sided Lunar colony board and a special and exclusive Power card. 

Level 2 Backers - Gain your own exclusive Kickstarter colony miniature and use it to colonize the Solar System. By unlocking this level each game copy is upgraded with one exclusive colony miniature and a special and exclusive Power card.

Level 3 Backers - You can now increase your Ability deck with these 3 new unique card packs that each have 10 new cards inside. Each card pack costs £3 and is completely different. In order to add card packs to your game box please modify your initial pledge with the corresponding amount. If you add even a single pack to your game box you receive one new and exclusive Power card.

Level 4 Backers - This level unlocks a new type of machine that MIND can research and build. The Seeker Machine is a very powerful unit that also buffs other friendly units in combat. By unlocking this level each game copy is upgraded with 12 Seeker cards, 12 Seeker tokens, 1 new Research and a special and exclusive Power card.

Level 1 Facebook - Populate Lyanon and the Solar System with this new 4 unique human citizens. Meet Anna, Borg, Callisto and David, each with unique values for their attributes. Some may be more suited for combat and some for operating structures. By unlocking this level each game copy is upgraded with 4 Citizen cards,4 Citizen tokens and a special and exclusive Power card.

Level 2 Facebook - These 2 new protocols allow MIND to enhance his Servers to produce more Cooldown and Command points each turn once they are researched. By unlocking this level each game box is upgraded with 2 new Protocol Researches and a special and exclusive Power card.

Level 3 Facebook - Asteroids can be found when a citizen performs an exploration order and draws from the Solar deck an asteroid card. Now, when that card is drawn, players will place this miniature on the Solar Map and with it will block a Space Zone, disabling it from passing through unless damage is taken. By unlocking this level each game copy is upgraded with one Asteroid miniature and a special and exclusive Power card.

So let's get specific, how do you play MIND - The Fall of Paradise? Well, I have created these easy to follow video tutorials that touch on almost all aspects of the game. The alpha rules are also available for anyone to read and check out.

VIDEO TUTORIAL SERIES

In this first part we see how MIND plays his phase and what are the basics of the game. We also learn how to set up up the game and understand the components.

We move to the Rebellion's side and learn how the Leaders play their phase. They manage their limited resources and even get to recruit some Followers.

Finally, the first turn is coming to and end by going through the Closing Phase. Here players resolve their given orders, gather taxes and much more.

Later during the campaign, Combat video tutorials will be made available to give you an understanding of how space and colonial combat is resolved.

The Backstory

This project takes place in an universe that I've been thinking and writing about for over 4 years. I am also in the editing phase of a short-film that I've filmed this summer called "Alone" and will finish next year. The intro of the video for this project features a glimpse from the future of Earth, long after the events from the game.

As I am really passionate about dreaming about the future and have a very positive vision about the rise of our civilization in the upcoming centuries I focused on a story where we are spreading our colonies yet struggle with resources and overpopulation. The whole story is pretty long but the boardgame takes place in the years where MIND's authority rises and he gains power over mankind.

The Story

My name is Vladimir Teneslav, I am a professional digital 3D artist and I have been working in the gaming industry for the past 10 years doing art for all types of games for IOS, from racers to shooters and strategy genres. Doing games and working in such awesome environment really boosts the creativity in anyone.

I usually keep myself pretty busy, both with personal and professional projects, as I really love to just do creative things. However, I also love to play basketball, both video and tabletop games and go hiking. Gotta love the mountain.

I am a great Lord of the Rings and Alien fan, and that's a bummer, as I should work and Alien:Isolation keeps calling me. Dammit, you good games out there!

In the past I have created this award winning short film called Urban and now I have created a Team Fortress 2 Trading Card Game just for fun to play with my colleagues at work, as we are all big TF2 players.

The answer is really simple, because I do not have the means to produce this boardgame otherwise. I am very fortunate to live in an era where this platform exists and people are not limited only to dreaming about their ideas but they actually get a chance to make them come true. I take this campaign as a challenge, if I am able to come up with something that pleases the gamers out there then my objective is completed.

Unfortunately I do not have a team with me, nor a brand behind me. The good side of this fact is that I did most of the work myself so the production cost doesn't involve paying salaries and royalties to anyone. 
I just need the funds to produce the boardgame and ship it to all of you.

Risks and challenges

It's understandable if people don't feel confident into pledging because this is a one man show but what I can promise you is that I am very dedicated to this project, fact proven by the time and resources I have already invested in the boargame. I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe that this is a great game to forward to the public.

I am also really happy to team up with Panda as they are already proven to be awesome and reliable. They are also very friendly and really helpful in every step of the process.

Once the campaign is over there will be 1 month dedicated to ending the creation phase and then I will submit the boardgame to Panda for mass production. There may be some back and forth with the components but other than that nothing major. There is no reason to expect big delays, or bad components since there is nothing really fancy custom made just for this game.
