About this project
'Dusty Raging Fist' is a prequel to 'Dusty Revenge', an award winning game released on Steam in early 2014.
'Dusty Raging Fist' is a fast-paced action brawler with tactical support combat. You play as Dusty and his allies (via local or online co-op) traversing different lands to bring down evil and restore justice. The game is a traditional beat'em up genre refreshed in a modern way. Apart from good old fashion hack and slash, you are equipped with elemental powers (collectible throughout the game) to use them against enemies in your brawl fight. On top of a 3 player co-op set up, we have designed a unique combat system for you to call upon your sniper support character to snipe single targets, or use your support artillery character to bomb enemy clusters. This unique combat mechanics in a beat'em up game allows you to tactically manage your combat decisions.
'Dusty Raging Fist' is set in a world where powers of Mythical Guardians are scattered across the lands. Our heroes, Dusty, Kitsune and Darg are tasked to obtain the powers of the elements from the Guardians to fight against a dark, ancient evil that resides in the Catacombs. Mythical Guardians are also collectibles. They can be summoned to help you deal more damage to enemies, as shown above.
'Dusty Raging Fist' is a spin-off of 'Dusty Revenge', the studio's 1st 2D action platformer (see below).

Set in a time before 'Dusty Revenge' (released on Steam in Feb 2014), 'Dusty Raging Fist' features a younger vigilante Dusty aided by his team of skillful fighters.
The story began when a young visitor from a faraway land sought our hero’s help, the little boy spoke of a peculiar phenomenon of lost children and deadly minions that plagued the lands. The once peaceful and brightly lit sky had produced two dark moons, an oddity that was once extinguished by the legendary Knight of the Iron City centuries ago.
In a time of uncertainty and chaos, the Mythical Guardians have beckoned our heroes to come forth and harness the Guardians’ great powers. A journey thus begun. What is the evil behind all these chaos? Will our heroes cross paths with the lineage of the legendary Iron Knights? Will the powers of the Mythical Guardians prove equal or greater than the oncoming evil? Dusty's gang must ride this journey in order to seek answers and restore peace to the land.
'Dusty Raging Fist' style of combat combines melee attacks with ranged attacks. You start off with basic attacks which allow you to earn combo moves, you can juggle in the air, perform uppercuts, roll, dash, air dash, smash down, and combine all these moves to chain more combos. Your characters are also equipped with range attacks. Dusty will be equipped with dual pistols, Kitsune uses shuriken, and Darg throws a large boomerang.
As you progress in the game, you will need to collect the 3 key combat elements: 1) Elemental Powers, 2) Support Characters, and 3) Mythical Guardians. Different elemental powers are used for different purposes. Support characters lends artillery and sniping abilities. You are also equipped with the powers of the ancient Guardians for full carnage attacks. Let's talk about Elemental Powers first:
There will be 6 different types of elemental powers available:
Each elemental powers will have different effects on enemies. For instance, Ice Elemental will freeze enemies, giving you and your friends extra time to damage them. Lightning Elemental electrocute enemies, other enemies that comes into contact into electrocuted enemies will get electrocuted as well, creating a domino effect.
To aid you further, two other support mechanisms comes in handy when situation gets sticky. You will be able to call upon your sniper support from a zoomed out view to take down pesky enemies, or bring forth your cannon support to blast away enemy clusters.
When using your sniper support, a zoom out view of the sidescrolling game layout will be presented, you can then take aim at the enemies that may be higher up in the air for more effective combat for instance.
Stronger or bigger enemies may require the use of your artillery support character. Forcing your enemies in a cluster before taking them out is also a good way to use the artillery support mechanism for instance. See below.
You can also summon your chosen Mythical Guardian for ultimate carnage, as above. Different Guardians may have different effects on different enemies. For instance, the Darkness Guardian will suck enemies into a black hole, eliminating them at the expense of gaining health or XP orbs. There are also Guardians with healing powers.
The use of Mythical Guardians is a powerful feature inspired by JRPGs. We've decided to incorporate it in a beat'em game setting to add more depth and interest to the game play. Use these Guardians wisely and they will save you in dire times of need.
Dusty has a great sense of righteousness and will not hesitate to stand up and do the right thing.
Kitsune is from the far east. Originally an enigmatic assassin, she has come to respect Dusty and many a times follow him on his quests. But being the skeptic she is, she will challenge Dusty's decisions.
Darg is a childhood friend of Dusty, he places a lot of trust in Dusty. And he will follow Dusty to the end of the world.
Ex-militia trained, Snow did not favor the military practices. Instead, he longed for freedom to fight his own justice. He followed Dusty as he finds Dusty's code of justice similar to his.
Originally an arms maker, Leo decided to travel with the gang to test his powerful cannon and fight for justice.
Sir William guards the stars and maintain world balance. From the lineage of the Iron Knights with extreme power and strength, is he a foe or friend?
The characters in 'Dusty Raging Fist' can be upgraded. All you need to do is to fight your way through the onslaught of enemies inside the game to collect as much XP as possible, in order to distribute them to various skills and powers of your characters!
In summary, 'Dusty Raging Fist' is a 2.5 D sidescrolling beat'em up action game, a traditional genre refreshed in a modern way. There will be local and online co-op, up to 3 players. In addition, the game features the sniper and artillery combat support system (as seen in Dusty Revenge). It is a unique combat system designed by us and not seen in other beat'em up games. There are 6 elemental powers to collect (Fire, Ice, Wind, Earth, Lightning, & Darkness). Elemental powers have their own unique properties. Also, mythical guardians can be collected and summoned in times of need. These mythical guardians serve different purposes, and they are used generally in dire times. There will be platforming elements, so be prepared to dodge, roll and jump out of dangers too!
'Dusty Raging Fist' is a passion project by us, the creators, growing up playing classic games such as 'Streets of Rage', 'Double Dragon, and many more. Throughout our growing up years, we have also enjoyed playing modern games such as the 'Devil May Cry' & 'God of War' series. Hence, 'Dusty Raging Fist' was conceived, to fuse modern game play and awesome art into a classic game genre.

Like most indies, we need strong support from the community. Although we have a good team internally, we still need additional public support to see us through. 'Dusty Raging Fist' was conceived because we wanted to create an extremely fun side-scrolling beat'em up taking cues from modern games, fusing traditional stylized 2d game play in a modern way. At the same time, we wanted to improve vastly from our earlier game 'Dusty Revenge'. To be candid, our earlier game 'Dusty Revenge', although award winning, did not fully lived up to our own expectations because we lacked funds to improve the game. One of the issue with 'Dusty Revenge', was our lack of experience in building a large game using an old game engine that subsequently resulted in some technical glitches. The whole experience strengthened us as a team nonetheless, and we aspire to improve ourselves from then on.
The pre-production for 'Dusty Raging Fist' actually started some time back, but due to the business environment where we have to cover realistic running costs, we have also been actively engaged in other client based projects while we were working on 'Dusty Raging Fist', in order to keep the team afloat. Right now, we will like to break the cycle and dive right into the production of this game full steam ahead. And we hereby appeal to you, our generous backers to help us achieve that.
We need your support, in every small little way. For the full completion of this game, we are looking at another 9 months of additional work, including all game testings. KJ – The Lead Game Designer for 'Dusty Revenge', and for 'Dusty Raging Fist'. He comes from a 3D artist and animator background before producing 'Dusty Revenge'.
Ken – Co Designer, and Producer. He started the studio in 2006, and have since produced countless productions for a wide range of clients, and in 2010 together with KJ went all out to make 'Dusty Revenge'.
Yinghol – Lead Game Artist. He works on all characters, animations and background art. Pretty much everything else.
Naoki – Game Artist. She works on characters, animations, and UI art. Pretty much everything else.

PD Design Studio is an independent game development studio in Singapore. We are a passionate bunch of video gamers turned game makers. We are also caffeine addicts. Our 1st game was 'Dusty Revenge' where we won Excellence in Audio at IGF, China 2013, Best Game Audio at Casual Asia Connect Indie Prize 2014, and nominated for Best Desktop Games in Casual Asia Connect Indie Prize 2014 among several other nominations. Our game making journey although pave with many challenges thus far, have been extremely rewarding. Right now, we plan to charge ahead to deliver a fun and excellent 'Dusty Raging Fist'.
Risks and challenges
Game development delays are the most common challenges faced by small indie teams. We acknowledge that. To keep to our side of the bargain in return for your help, we intend to keep to the timeline and deliver our game timely.
How can we do so?
- We are asking for a realistic sum of funding (coupled with what we have), to cover our remaining tasks.
- Having gone through our 1st game release, 'Dusty Revenge'. we have learnt a great deal as a team, and will be able to minimize mistakes and hiccups.
- Our team is committed and have been working on 'Dusty Revenge' through to 'Dusty Raging Fist'.
- Although we are a small team, and 'Dusty Revenge' was our 1st game, we have existed as a company since 2006. We have provided professional services to numerous other clients, we believe we can deliver the game professionally and on time, as long as we have the budget to accomplish it.
