Welcome to our project! We're a group of Boston-local LGBTQ comic lovers and we're releasing Being True, an LGBTQ comics anthology that is an uplifting celebration of LGBTQ life and identity. The stories blend fiction and nonfiction, from fantasy and superhero comics to real and touching stories from the artists’ lives. While many local creators were tapped for the project, the anthology also includes contributors from as far as Brazil and Poland.
The anthology will be printed in black and white with a color cover and be approximately 85 pages. $5,000 covers the printing costs of 300 black and white books at a unit cost of a little more than $5/book, paying our wonderful cover artist LB Lee, paying our contributors $30/page, Kickstarter fees, and local taxes.
Those costs actually come to about $5,200, but we're planning on selling copies of the book at conventions and expect to make profit back. Any funds raised after that amount will go towards paying our artists more money per page.
If we meet the $5,000 goal, we plan on announcing stretch goals that include marketing, convention tabling costs, additional printing, and, of course, paying the creators even more.
Let us know if you have any questions - and we hope we piqued your interest!

Risks and challenges
We are all very committed to this project. The main risk, as is with all Kickstarter campaigns, is that we will not be fully funded, in which case all of our backers will receive 100% of their money back.
A secondary risk is that we will not be able to print the books quickly enough to make our con deadlines - but again, this will not affect our backers on Kickstarter, and you will all receive your rewards even if our printing is delayed.
All of our contributors are working primarily for the love of comics and for our community. Should we reach or exceed our goal, the majority of our money will go to paying the contributors per page, so it's unlikely that we will have anybody drop out. If somebody is forced to leave the project due to personal issues, we have possible extra material from the editors and may also solicit our friends at the BCR.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
