What is Tech Chef & HiFly?
Tech Chef is a team of tech enthusiasts based out of New York City. After years of creating websites and apps for various companies, we started to realize a trend: More and more people were ditching their laptops and spending more time on their mobile devices, especially when it came to entertainment! People are constantly bending their necks to watch videos or play games, which is not only harmful to the spinal cord, but also just uncomfortable.
After seeing what Google & Facebook are doing with their new Virtual Reality projects, our team was excited to create our own version of VR goggles. In early 2015, after months of planning and manufacturing, we are ready to introduce the HiFly goggles: A simple and functional device that allows any 4-7 inch phone to be turned into a 3D virtual reality experience. In addition to our HiFly device, we've created a mobile app which turns any YouTube video into a 3D experience. Our team concentrated on aesthetic and sleek design, while keeping functionality & comfort the main priorities. Our durable hardware will last you for years and is compatible with all VR apps on the market.

The headset does not need to be charged and does not require batteries.
Through technically magnified lenses, which offers the visual equivalent to 2 meters (78 inches) distance, it will look like you're in the sixth row of an IMAX theater. Using ABS and spherical resin lens materials, without stimulation plastic sheet, we ensured that our device is environmental friendly and safe for the eyes. The 3D videos are super clear to provide the most rewarding experience. You can watch videos anytime, anywhere whether you're sitting, lying down or standing, making the HiFly device very convenient to use.
Mobile App:
Our HiFly Mobile App allows you to simply convert any YouTube video into a 3D experience. We are working to further develop the app so that any video you take from your smartphone can be converted into a 3D theater style experience!
Simply download the application in your Android or iOs device & search any video. The HiFly application converts the video into 3D version. Press play, place your phone into your HiFly device, and enjoy!
Prototype & Production
Determining the perfect distance from the lens to your smartphone took weeks of trial and error. With the help of our in-house optician and production team, we were able to pinpoint the exact distance to provide the maximum viewing comfort, while keeping lens safety a priority.
Our design team sourced the perfect raw materials to ensure the HiFly headset is durable, as well as comfortable. Using bio and acrylic plastics, we are able to create a soft and sustainable headset, making it perfect to throw into your duffle bag without worrying if it will crack or break.
After the design and testing phase, we went ahead and purchased enough raw materials to produce our first run of 250 headsets, which we will start to assemble mid February. We produced a couple of headsets and took them to the streets of New York City, and the results were amazing!

Risks and challenges
Going into production is never an easy task. Months of preparation goes into design, raw materials, and trial and error. We have been in constant contact with our manufacturer to ensure that our HiFly headset will be ready to deliver by May 2015.
After funding, 2 members from our team will be staying near our factory to complete the production of our HiFly headset. Meanwhile, 2 more developers will be working to finalize the mobile application. Our team will collectively ensure you have the HiFly headset in your hands by May 2015.
