Raising moola for our new album, "An Awkward Time with The Debutante Hour." Exciting new songs! To be released Feb/Mar 2012!
Oh, hello. Nice to see you here.
Yes, it's us, jumping on the electronic begging bandwagon like every other all-female close harmony cabaret trio, trying to raise funds for our new album, "An Awkward Time with The Debutante Hour." We know it seems like everyone and their cousin has a worthy project that needs cash, so why should you support ours?
We're uncommon. We're not your usual thing. If you've seen us live, you know just how strange this thing we've created is -- three ladies boisterously harmonizing like the Andrews Sisters, singing about a range of existential quandaries and awkward moments. Even if it's not your bag, you have to admit, it's a little weird. So, if you support us, you're supporting something rare, strange and oddly beautiful (or at least that's how we like to think of it).
It's been almost exactly two years since Mia, Susan and Maria started playing together full-time as The Debutante Hour in Brooklyn (after a year+ of living scattered through three different countries). Since then, we've released one full-length album (The Birth and Death of Meaning, 2010) and one EP of cover songs (Follow Me, 2011). We've toured in Europe and down the East and West coasts of the U.S. We've organized insane events, like our telethon in December 2010, when we brought 30 different acts together for a night of sheer creative bliss. We've offered you brittle at a discount, commissioned beautiful cabaret costumes, and made PSAs about eating locally and being a vigilant neighbor.
And we've done it all ourselves. Every last bit of it.
The last album cost us nearly $7,000 to make, and we relied on the charity of friends and family who worked for free or at a discount. This year, we find ourselves with an exciting roster of new songs waiting to be recorded (Parking! Sexy Sister! DooWop Girl! Illusions are for Losing!) and the lack of pocket-money to make it happen. So we turn to you, friends near and far, with hope that you might help us out.
Our goal of $5,000 will cover our studio costs for tracking, mixing and producing - we have the brilliant James Frazee on board to work with us again, and an exciting new producer. We plan to come up with the rest of the funds to cover design, mastering, production and distribution (probably another $3-5K depending on our means). We've blocked off time in December to start working on this thing, with the goal of releasing the album with a big bash (as always) in February 2012.
Last thing: All these prizes are subject to negotiation. If you want to book us for an event (we've played two weddings now, and our first corporate gig), we should talk. If what you really need is a home-cooked Ukrainian meal, we might be able to do that too. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with those kinds of special requests.
